We Interrupt this Program...
Before I start episode 6, I wanted to mention something I was thinking about recently. Ninjago is a show aimed a younger boys, right? (not saying that's the only audience who enjoys it, just that younger boys are what Ninjago was created to attract). A lot of the other shows I can think of aimed at younger boys involve a lot of action and vehicles. Think: Power Rangers, Transformers, DC and Marvel cartoons, etc.
In the earlier seasons of Ninjago, a lot of this stuff was in the episodes. Think of seasons 1 and 2. Was there a single episode that went by where the Ninja weren't involved in some minor/major fight and/or sneaking around into the enemy's lairs? They were fighting, sneaking around, going on main/mini missions... you know, being NINJA.
Now that I think about it, Seabound has had barely any of this. Yeah there's a chase scene here and there, but it's mostly just the characters talking to each other and wandering around. When thinking about the last few seasons, I realize that it has pretty much been the same. The Ninja aren't BEING Ninja anymore. They just use flashy weapons to fight flashy villains at the end of the season. Most of time they wear colorful suits and complain about various things.
It makes me wonder: the new seasons have been dumbed down for younger viewers to enjoy, right? So... do young boys not enjoy cars and action anymore? Or is Lego pandering to an audience that doesn't actually exist?
