5. Food

All Kuroo and Bokuto knew about the man from the beach was that he for one was not at all someone who liked to talk. He did have a name, which was Akaashi. He had fallen asleep before saying his first name but he wasn't nameless anymore.

Akaashi had drank water and gotten dressed before Bokuto tucked him in and made sure he slept.

Both of them were wary of what could happen while they slept but let him be. Bokuto grabbed a blow up mattress and prayed his parents wouldn't hear him blow it up. Kuroo slept on it with him, both restless and waking each other up by accident throughout the night. Bokuto eventually got up, groggy and confused.

The sun was peeking out between the curtains and they were opened due to Akaashi halfway sitting up, eyes stuck on the light outside.

"Mm... Akaashi?"

Akaashi looked over, eyes filled with fear.

"Hey, hey, hey don't worry. I'm not gonna do anything. Are you in pain? Is that why you're up?"

Akaashi touched his side, nodding.

Bokuto sat down on the bed and eased up the shirt. "Mm. Gotcha. Can you walk?"

Akaashi shook his head.

"Yeah those cuts seemed pretty deep." Bokuto sat him up against pillows and grabbed some gauze. He fixed up the wound Akaashi was worried about and noticed him still uncomfortable. "Can you drink water?"

Akaashi nodded.

Bokuto got him a glass of water and found a shot glass his father had gotten from America. He crushed some Advil up completely and mixed it with water, knowing it was wrong but wanting Akaashi to stay comfortable. He had no idea the capabilities he had.

Bokuto gave him the shot glass first and then the cup, which he discovered was a bad idea as soon as he tried to drink from it. Water spilled down his front and Akaashi stared at himself.

"Good Lord man." Bokuto took the cup and found a sippy cup downstairs. He filled it with water and gave it to Akaashi. Akaashi watched Bokuto try to find something to do, curious as he sipped at his water. Bokuto noticed. "Would you like to try and walk? It's gonna help you a bit."

Akaashi moved the blankets and touched one of his legs. He looked disappointed.

"So you can understand fully. Are you able to talk very much?"

Akaashi shook his head. "Small."

"Oh! You understand when I speak but you yourself can't say the things I am?"

"Mhmm."

"Why?"

Akaashi deadpanned.

Bokuto cringed internally as he realized Akaashi couldn't verbalize. He sighed. "Do you eat?"

"Yes?"

"Do you eat meat? Like fish?"

"Mhmm."

"Cooked?"

Akaashi's eyes softened, making him look even more confused.

"You know what I'm gonna grab something simple that you can stomach. We have cans of soup."

Akaashi leaned forward and a soft chirping noise emitted from his throat. Bokuto turned, surprised.

"Woah!" Akaashi moved a bit, seemingly overwhelmed. Bokuto moved the blankets back. "Careful, you'll hurt your legs. Do you want to come look with me?"

Akaashi nodded. He looked at Kuroo.

"He's sleeping. He's been having bad dreams since we found-" Bokuto looked to Akaashi. "You know what, he's fine. Let's get you up."

Bokuto picked him up and carefully set him on his feet. Akaashi faltered and held onto him, brows furrowed.

"Good job! Now move your feet. I'll get you a cover up story for my parents if we run into them so don't get too worried." Bokuto helped him walked to the stairway and immediately watched as Akaashi panicked. "One foot at a time. Like walking on sand. You ever done that?"

"Mhmm."

Bokuto helped him down, getting to the kitchen where his mother was eating fruit from a bowl, sitting on the floor. She stopped chewing, face twisting in concern. "Ko?"

"Hey-"

"Who's that?"

"Okay so crazy story, right? This guy is a friend of mine from school. He's a year below me and he got kicked out."

"Uh huh." She glanced at her bowl. "Does he have a name?"

"Akaashi," Akaashi whispered.

Bokuto smiled sadly. "He's lost his voice a while back."

"What's with the walking?"

"Touchy subject," Bokuto mumbled.

She nodded hurriedly. "Sorry! So sorry!"

Bokuto chuckled softly. He sat Akaashi down. "I didn't mean to just sneak him in but Kuroo found him while cleaning and his phone was taken away and everything. His family sucks."

Akaashi nodded, fiddling with his hands. He watched Bokuto pour broth into a pot and heat it up. Bokuto let the bowl sit and cook a bit. Akaashi was given a spoon and the bowl and Bokuto got some as well, eating before him to check and make sure Akaashi wouldn't do something out of the ordinary. Akaashi copied him and just stayed quiet.

"Ko."

"Yes?"

"You do know I'm having a baby soon, right?"

"Yes ma'am."

"And you brought someone into our home? Not that I don't want him to be safe of course but it is concerning." She pushed the fruit around in her bowl. "I don't know where or how we would house him."

"He can stay with me in my room! I've got a bathroom and I have a job that will put food in his stomach. I promise I'll take care of him." Bokuto smiled. "Akaashi deserves every bit of it."

"That's sweet honey. If you really think you're ready then please, go ahead. But he has to help out around here when we clean. Especially with the baby."

"Yes ma'am."

She looked to Akaashi.

"Yes... mm... ma'am." Akaashi got out before looking away.

Bokuto's mother blushed. "Honey if it hurts to talk you don't have to. I won't judge."

Akaashi nodded silently. He looked up and Kuroo trudged down the stairs. Kuroo got a bowl and Bokuto's mother frowned.

"What in the world were you three doing up there?"

"Having an orgy, duh."

"Kuroo! That is my mother you are talking to?!"

Kuroo startled. "Oh shit sorry!"

She rolled her eyes. "You better be glad I love you two or else I would have just beat your ass for using fowl language."

Kuroo laughed nervously. Bokuto just shook his head and looked at Akaashi. Akaashi's eyes were closed and he was swaying a bit. "Akaashi? You good buddy?"

Bokuto's mother looked up. "Kotarou get up!" She grabbed the counter and lifted herself up, very much off balance. She grabbed Akaashi just after he fainted, holding his arms. "Ow! Ow! Pulled a muscle! Grab him!"

Bokuto grabbed him and Kuroo got his mother to sit down. "Oh my God are you okay?!"

"I'm fine! I'm fine!"

Bokuto laid Akaashi on the ground as he'd been taught to do by his mother and noticed exactly how thin Akaashi was. The ocean had all sorts of food, why was he this thin?

"Poor thing needs a hot bath and food and rest. I can't get back on the floor to help him. Do you remember?"

"Yes ma'am." Bokuto pat Akaashi's cheek gently. "Akaashi? Akaashi?"

Akaashi whined.

"Great." Bokuto turned him onto his side and made sure the collar on the shirt he was wearing wasn't too tight. Akaashi curled in on himself a bit, sighing shakily. "Can you point to where it hurts?"

Akaashi shook his head.

"You must not have much in your system. Here, I'll take you back to bed and we can find some food." Bokuto lifted Akaashi up slowly and got him up. He walked upstairs and put him under a blanket. "Is it cold?"

"Mhmm."

Bokuto grabbed more blankets and put more broth into a sippy cup so he could drink it. Akaashi seemed to relax into the pillows, content. Bokuto smiled. "Good job. Do you want anything else?"

Akaashi held out the sippy cup.

"More food?"

"Mhmm..."

"When was the last time you ate a full meal?"

Akaashi held up a hand of five fingers.

"Days?!"

Akaashi nodded.

"Jesus Christ. Hang on I gotta go get you a bowl of ramen. A huge one." Bokuto tapped the bed. "Stay here."

Akaashi laid down and Bokuto rushed to grab Kuroo and Kuroo's keys. Kuroo just relaxed into his seat, eyes half open as he stared at Bokuto driving. Bokuto looked over and smiled, laughing at his friend's stare.

"You're so odd."

Kuroo just smiled back.
