32. Recovery
Bokuto rose slowly in the morning, immediately noticing the lack of Akaashi in the tank in front of him. He looked around only to find him curled up behind him, his hair in his face and fully clothed. Bokuto turned over and pulled him close. Akaashi whimpered.
"Sorry."
Akaashi's eyes opened and he sat up slowly. "Everything hurts."
Bokuto lifted his shirt slowly and saw the largest and darkest bruise on Akaashi's stomach that he'd ever seen. His shoulder was still wounded and his face had a cut. "Is there anything else on you?"
"My legs."
Bokuto looked over the pale skin and was met with the image of long marks along Akaashi's thighs and a few on his shins, one on his ankle where it bent in the front. Akaashi slumped into Bokuto's shoulder. Bokuto kissed his cheek. "You must be exhausted."
"I used my voice," he croaked. His voice was gravelly and distant as he laid against Bokuto. "It hurts."
"I can get you some water."
Akaashi shook his head and just stayed still.
Bokuto kissed his forehead again and just cradled him. Akaashi didn't wake all throughout being moved and people talking. Even being set into his bed where his bandages were changed he stayed asleep, his eyes only fluttering open when Bokuto would whisper his name.
Oikawa tried to fix his legs but he kept feeling too weak to do so, always pulling away and panting softly. He was spent and exhausted. So was Sugawara, who was feeling the side effects from the day before. Despite being the most active of the three sirens he was still shuffling around without doing much and kept leaning against Daichi.
"Hey honey... can you please lay down? I know you don't feel well but you need to rest."
Suga shook his head. "I can't stop. Everything aches but I'm not tired. Nothing is quiet."
Daichi sat down on the couch and held out an arm. "Come here sweetheart."
Suga climbed in his lap and settled under his jaw. "Mm..."
"Go to sleep," Daichi whispered. Sugawara's eyes unfocused for a moment before he closed them and he was fast asleep. Bokuto was making sure Akaashi wasn't having nightmares, oddly feeling a lot better.

"It's been two days when is he going to wake up?" Bokuto whispered to Oikawa.
Oikawa felt of Akaashi's forehead. "I'm not sure. I've never had to heal someone to that extent. I could ask my mom but she'd be pissed."
Akaashi stirred slightly in his sleep, turning himself over. Bokuto kept his head from hitting the nightstand. He nudged him back to the middle of the bed and Akaashi woke up slightly. "You're good Keiji."
Akaashi closed his eyes back and Bokuto covered him up.
Oikawa huffed in frustration. "He should be totally fine now. I don't understand."
"I'm sure he's just tired. He said he used his voice and didn't sound all that good."
Oikawa cringed. "That'll do it. No wonder he was so weak when you first found him. Using our own voice will fire us out."
"Wait are you not using your voice? I'm confused."
"I mean like... you know how Daichi commands Suga when his safety is in danger or if he needs it?"
"Yeah. It's really controlling and I hate it." Bokuto glanced out of the room to make sure Daichi couldn't hear him. "Is he a siren?"
"No. He has a contract with Sugawara. They're bound so that Sugawara is never hurt. He was brought into land to prevent anyone from our home hurting him. Sugawara would be in danger without someone watching him. And not in the helpless little bitch way but he genuinely needs someone because he's constantly in danger of being discovered. He panics without guidance." Oikawa sighed deeply. "Daichi's voice is like ours. If we use our true 'commanding' voice then we'll get sick. It's just a drawback of our power."
Bokuto nodded. "How long are you out typically?"
"Three days. Maybe. My body is getting more used to using large amounts of power so I don't stay asleep for very long."
"So what about him?"
"Maybe two more days? Also if you need to, Iwaizumi and I would be glad to take you in. It's closer to the ocean so maybe he'll feel better. And there's a lot of windows."
"Maybe, yeah." Bokuto looked around. "No offense to Suga but this is stuffy."
"I get that."
Bokuto made sure Akaashi was warm and got up. "Hey do you know why I'm feeling better?"
"You were holding his hand, he probably let some of my power up to you."
Bokuto raised his brows in suspicion before going to the bathroom. He grabbed Akaashi's things and neatly set them up by the tub. He went to change Akaashi's bandages but when he went to do so he was whiny and touching his shoulder.
"Does it hurt Keiji?"
"Mhmm..."
Bokuto sat him up and unbuttoned his shirt, easing it off of him. Akaashi started to cry. "Hey, hey, hey. It's okay. You probably just hit it in your sleep baby. Take a deep breath. Everything's okay."
"But it hurts..."
"Oh I know it." Bokuto eased his bandages back and the injury looked bruised and a little puffy. "You're okay. Come on, we'll get you in the tub and I'll give you some ibuprofen."
Akaashi whined, sniffling. Bokuto eased him up and turned on the water. "Hey Daichi, I'm getting him in the bath."
"Okay! There's bath salts in the cupboard if you need them. Glad he's awake."
Bokuto chuckled and just glanced at Akaashi, who wasn't really awake. He was leaning against the tub with his face contorted in pain. Bokuto gave him a full ibuprofen and kissed his forehead. Akaashi was stripped down and put in the warm water. Bokuto's heart broke at the image of Akaashi whimpering in the water. "What's wrong?"
"I... I can't change back and it hurts," he croaked.
Bokuto sighed. "Soon."
Akaashi grabbed for Bokuto's hands and just held them. "Mm."
Bokuto bathed him and kissed his forehead over and over. Akaashi leaned into him and leaned forward for his hair to be washed. Bokuto washed his hair and let him sit in the water until it started to cool off before taking him out of the tub and dressing him in thick clothing. Bokuto bandaged his shoulder again and blow dried his hair.
Akaashi leaned up against him, a protein bar that Bokuto had wanted him to eat in his hands. Bokuto was giving him a head massage, watching as Akaashi's eating slowed down and started to snore.
"Oh good God." Bokuto eased the piece of the protein bar poking out of Akaashi's mouth and set it aside. "You are so odd."
Akaashi coughed and turned over into Bokuto's neck, mumbling incoherently.
"Is that so?"
Akaashi whined loudly and whimpered. "Ow."
Bokuto turned him onto his other shoulder. "You okay?"
"Mm sleeping."
"Yeah?"
Akaashi purred softly.
Bokuto's heart fluttered and he scratched at the back of his head. Akaashi immediately got louder and pressed himself against Bokuto. "Feeling better?"
"Mhmm!"
"Great." Bokuto laid down and kissed Akaashi's cheek. "We'll try eating again in the morning." Akaashi kissed the back of Bokuto's neck and rested up against his back. Bokuto chuckled softly. "Love you too."
