31. Glass
Oikawa ran up to Sugawara. "Koushi! You okay?"
"Nauseous. Someone just used a lot of power and I feel lightheaded."
Oikawa nodded. He looked at Bokuto and cringed. "Does he know?"
"Yeah."
Bokuto waved. "Can we just see if we can find him?"
"Of course." Suga touched his hand and huffed. "He's here. Right outside."
Bokuto looked out a window and saw a lump of dark on the sand. "Oh God."
Oikawa shouted in surprise and hurried outside. "Keiji! Keiji?!"
Nothing on the beach moved.
Oikawa gulped. Sugawara ran past him and dove into the water. Daichi shouted something that was easily whipped away in the wind. Bokuto stood at the top of the stairs. He tried to hurry down the steps, heart racing. Daichi caught his arm. "You look pale."
Bokuto gulped. "I- I won't faint."
Oikawa glanced back before sighing and grabbing Bokuto. Bokuto was at ease immediately. "There. Shut up."
Bokuto went to the edge of the water and waited. It was a while before he saw any movement in the waves. Black pooled up in little circles until Sugawara came on shore, transforming quickly. "Help! He's bleeding!"
Oikawa rushed up and held Akaashi's arms, pulling him onto the sand. "Fucking hell."
Bokuto's stomach churned as black poured and poured from Akaashi's stomach and shoulder. He was limp and his tail wouldn't even twitch. Bokuto stepped down towards him and gently lifted him up towards his chest. "Keiji..."
"He's only unconscious," Sugawara promised gently.
Oikawa sighed shakily. "Suga you're gonna pass out. I need to use everything this time."
"Okay." Sugawara sat down and Daichi sat next to him. "Thanks."
Bokuto ran his fingers through Akaashi's hair. "Fix his stomach first. I can handle his shoulder. Also why is his blood black?"
"It's just because he was using his power. Usually our blood is near black."
Bokuto nodded. Oikawa set his hands on Akaashi's chest and just focused. His fingertips flowed a soft white and Akaashi's stomach seemed to move. Bokuto didn't notice but as his stomach shifted Akaashi's eyes fluttered and he stared up at Bokuto. "Almost there?"
Oikawa didn't even non vocally respond, staring intently at his stomach. A much brighter light came out of his fingertips and he inhaled deeply. Sugawara immediately passed out, landing on Daichi's chest.
Bokuto sighed. "Come on hun. I'm here, it's okay now."
Akaashi's head fell back into Bokuto's arm and Oikawa grabbed behind his head, his other hand still on his chest. The light under his hand flowed brighter and brighter, nearly blinding Bokuto as he watched.
"Is he okay?"
"Shhhh."
Akaashi's arm shakily lifted and he tapped Bokuto's hand. Bokuto glanced down before holding his hand. "I'm here."
Akaashi opened his mouth as if to talk but instead of noise, black poured from his mouth that he choked on. Oikawa eased his head forward. "I'm trying."
Akaashi threw up blood on his chest, running over Oikawa's hand. Bokuto tightened his grip on Akaashi's hand and tried to ignore the fear as blood spilled. Oikawa got closer and held both hands down on his chest again, panting softly. "Hang in there Keiji. I'm not letting you die!"
Akaashi let out the most pitiful sound Bokuto had ever heard. It was nearly a whimper but too soft to get there. Bokuto waited for nearly an hour for Oikawa to push through and save Akaashi. His skin and tail were still covered in blood and he was wheezing lowly but he was alive.
"Just a bit more," Oikawa mumbled. His hands were shaking and he looked paler than normal. His eyes were black and watering. "I'm almost done."
Bokuto touched Oikawa's shoulder. "Don't heal his shoulder. I've got it."
"It's okay." Oikawa's eyes fluttered. "I'm almost done."
"I get that but please, you're stressing yourself. He's going to be okay."
Daichi held Oikawa up. "Come on man. We need to check on Kuroo. The bite isn't that bad on Keiji."
Bokuto kissed Akaashi's hair and rubbed his hand. "Bed?"
Akaashi nodded and Bokuto touched his tail. "Easy but take it away."
"We can just put him in a tank and let him sleep."
Bokuto nodded. "I'll need help."
Daichi nodded. "Do what you can."
Bokuto eased up and noticed that his ankle wasn't hurting and neither was his foot. He got Akashi hefted up and carried him to the door. Daichi came to the door and they carried Akaashi to where there were more friendly types of fish. Before he was put in the water he was gently laid on a towel and Bokuto found a first aid kit. In it was a stitch kit that Bokuto used to sew up Akaashi's shoulder.
Akaashi clung loosely to him, delirious and weak. Bokuto kissed his hair before easing him into the water. Akaashi curled up beneath some seaweed and fell asleep. Bokuto sat outside the glass, watching his lover. Akaashi's neck moved with his gills. He wasn't bleeding anymore but he didn't look well.
Suga walked up behind Bokuto. "Kuroo's awake."
Bokuto got up. "Is Keiji gonna be okay?"
"He's okay. Just wait." Sugawara glanced past the glass. Akaashi looked calm. His energy was calm.
Bokuto followed Sugawara to where Kuroo was staring confusedly around him. Apparently Oikawa had passed out as well since he was crumpled on the ground, snoring softly. Bokuto wasn't sure when Iwaizumi had gotten there but he was here now and was holding Oikawa's hand and watching over him.
"What happened?" Kuroo mumbled.
"You were attacked," Daichi stated simply. "Akaashi managed to stop the attack."
"The freaky fish boy?" Kuroo asked behind a yawn. Sugawara stiffened in offense.
"Kuroo-"
"He saved your life. No need for name calling."
Kuroo stared at Bokuto. "Huh?"
"He killed someone in control of the sirens." Sugawara leaned his weight onto his left leg, crossing his arms. "He's resting right now. I also don't call us freaky fish boys."
"Us?"
"Tooru and Koushi are also sirens." Iwaizumi looked up. "Just be nice dude."
Kuroo shrank back into the wall and curled up. "Tomorrow is a close day."
Bokuto leaned down. "Do you feel okay?"
"Mhmm..."
Bokuto went back to the tank and laid down, watching Akaashi breathe. He was so little despite his tail and long torso that Bokuto adored. His spine of spikes and blue webbing was fluttering as he slept. Bokuto closed his eyes and listened to the water and the steady air conditioning above him somewhere. He yawned and opened his eyes again to see Akaashi's hand grabbing for something.
Bokuto tapped the glass and Akaashi got up immediately, rushing to the glass. He freaked out a bit as he tried to grab Bokuto.
"Hey, hey, hey it's okay. You're okay. There's glass. We put you in a fish tank to sleep. You need to lay down hun."
Akaashi banged on the glass weakly. "Kotarou!"
"Baby lay down against the glass. You're okay."
Akaashi wilted into the sand and huffed softly, air bubbles going through the water above him. Bokuto pressed his hand to the glass and Akaashi slid his hand over the glass.
"Just go to sleep. I'm here."
Akaashi curled up tight and closed his eyes. It was a while before Bokuto fell asleep and when he did Suga covered him in a blanket and laid on the couch, Daichi soon to join him in the little area of comfort.
