Chapter 8- Utter ConFUSION (Panith part 1)

Third Person

Tanith stared at the machine and couldn't help but feel unnerved. "I'm not too sure about this..."

"Nonsense! You trust me right?" Professor grinned.

The hybrid sucked in a breath. "Well..."

"Hey!"

Tanith started to laugh. "Kidding! 'Corse I trust you... Most of the time." He glared at her. "Sorry but you don't seem to know anything about spirits so..." She shrugged. "Truth hurts. Sorry Prof."

Professor shook his head slowly. "That was one time! I don't normally deal with spirits, okay!" He did his best to justify before sighing in defeat. "And I've told you three times already, but I'll explain, ONE more time. ONE, got it?" Tanith nodded eagerly.

Professor gestured to the huge machine. Most of it was a big block, with a huge computer and keyboard to go with it. Several buttons lined the computers, with some switches as well. It had two large tubes coming out of the top, which looped up and back down, into two large test tube like things off to the side, which had open glass doors at the moment. One person could fit in either test tube comfortably.

Professor first gestured to the left tube. "You go in there while I set it up on the computer. Then, when I flip this switch," He guested to a brown switch near the bottom of the keyboard. "I will have a couple seconds to get in that test tube before it closes." He pointed to the right test tube. "Then, long story short, flashing lights and some of your healing powers get transferred to me!"

Tanith's mouth opened but he cut her off. "No, I won't have healing powers but it should give me regenerating capabilities for a little while. If it works, we might have a way to cure all the diseases that you can't! Maybe we can take it one step forward and regrow legs! Whole legs and limbs! Think of the possibilities!"

Tanith nodded along. "I can't say no to that." She smiled back and slithered into the tube, careful to coil her tail comfortably. As soon as she was done, Professor closed the door and got to work.

He quickly did all that he could, then grinned at his work. "Almost done!" He altered the hybrid, then flipped the final switch and hurried to get in his spot. The door closed and soon, the machine hummed to life.

Professor Pikalus couldn't be happier. Finally, he was getting somewhere in terms of improving Atlantis. Weapons and tanks were good, but curing diseases? All of them? That was something he could truly be proud of. Whenever he did make weapons, there was always some guilty part of him that shone when something went wrong, or when someone died because of it.

This was pure. Nothing could ruin it.

Steam hissed from the machine, getting Professor to stiffen. "That wasn't supposed to happen..." He said out loud, looking around.

"What'd you say?"

Professor hesitated to tell her, still looking at what was going on. "The atoms? Why's it having trouble with the atoms?" Then it hit him: He forgot one very important fact. "Hybrid!" He screamed the word, hitting himself. "I'm an idiot!"

"Uh... Prof?"

"You're a hybrid!"

Tanith's eyes knitted together. "You're just realizing this now? That's a new record..." She muttered to herself, then laughed.

"No, not that! What I mean is when I made this I forgot about the hybrid thing! I just set it to human/sorcerer! It's having trouble seeing you as a living thing, not pure magic!"

"Professor, I'm a doctor, not a mad scientist! I have no idea what you're talking about! What happens if it doesn't see me as living? What happens when it just sees me as magic? Explain! I don't understand!"

"It means-!"

A bright light consumed them both. Tanith felt herself completely start to shift in matters of form, while Professor felt a sudden change. Both let out a cry, getting the attention of scientists nearby but it was too late as the machine overloaded and exploded.

Cody waved the citizen goodbye and the next one took their place. The line was a lot shorter now, only two people left and he'd be finished for today. Grinning, he greeted them.

"So, how can I help?" He asked immediately. No need for small chat, none of the citizens ever wanted it.

"I..." The young Atlantean fumbled with his words, flustered. "I want some money so I can start a newspaper business! Not much! Just... Enough for the rent. I have everything except a work space and I swear I'll work hard for it!"

Cody chuckled. One of the best things about being king was watching young Atlanteans grow into something great. Just by looking at the kid, he could tell they were going to be something extraordinary. "Of course! How much do you need? As long as it's reasonable, we can do it."

The boy began to play with his thumbs, making them circle each other in his hands. "W-well... I was hoping, perhaps, 5,000? Maybe 8,000? I know, it's a lot but-"

Cody simply waved his worries away. "It's no problem. I'll get the paperwork to you and you'll have it before you know it! What's your name man?"

"Alexander."

"Well, Alexander, I think you'll do great things. Just you wait."

Alexander's eyes beamed and thanked the penguin a million times before leaving. Cody had one other person, who simply requested a bodyguard for a week so they could protect themselves from infestation, and then left without another word.

"That should be it." Cody grinned, then his hands shot up in the air. "Woo! Twenty in one day! I am on FIRE!" He let out a laugh, but it wouldn't last too long.

"Sir! Someone here is requesting you!" Called one of the guards from the front entrance. Cody paused for a moment but shrugged it off. One more citizen wouldn't be the end of the world.

Hastily swimming over to where they were, one of the guards was in front of someone he had never seen before.

She was tall, slightly taller than Cody and had long, curly and black hair that nearly reached her legs. Her eyes were hazel, and in the light, seemed like they were glowing. Her skin was white, but not pale. She wore a light brown overcoat with a white shirt underneath it, as well as jeans on her legs. Her eyes looked around, curious and excited, almost like if she was seeing the world for the first time. Her body seemed to sway, as if she was constantly trying to find her balance and not fall over, while also trying to see everything.

Cody had never seen her before, he knew that, but he couldn't help but feel as if he had.

"Hello." Cody said, catching her attention. Her face lit up at the sight of him.

"Cody! It's great to see you ag-" She suddenly tensed and decided not to finish her sentence. Cody rose an eyebrow but decided against saying anything. "Can we... Go down to the market? I really wish to..." She struggled with forming the right words. "Discuss." She decided eventually. "Yes, I want to discuss something with you. Something kinda important."

Cody gave her a long look but in the end made up his mind. There was no way this person was dangerous, so there really was no harm in going with her. "Okay? What do you want to talk about?"

Her hazel eyes darted from Cody, to the guard and back again. "I'd rather it be private. For now at least."

Cody paused before sighing, and giving the guard the, 'It's okay' nod and left with her.

Half of the time while walking down, the lady stayed silent, every once in a while glancing over but avoided the king's gaze when he tried to lock eyes with her. Before reaching the market, she stopped them. "I can't keep this in any longer!" She blurted out, whipping towards Cody.

"Keep what in?"

"I know you! A lot about you!" Cody opened his mouth but she spoke before he could ask. "Because I'm your good friend! Sort of at least! I mean, I know that you have a teddy bear that helps calm you down after a nightmare! You really hate coffee flavored ice cream because it's too bitter for your taste and you can't put any sugar or cream in it because ice cream already has both and that's really excessive."

Cody stared at her in shock as she kept rambling. "You've secretly always wanted to be a pirate because they're so cool and you're always in a debate about whether being a king or pirate would be better! You love playing video games but you really suck at mario kart because somehow you always get the worst luck in the game!"

Cody was in shock and it took him a moment to find the right words to reply. "How... How do you know all this? I've never met you before..."

She rubbed the back of her head. "Welllll, technically you have because you've met the people I'm made of. Sorry, but I had to say those things so you'd believe me."

"Believe you about what?"

"I'm a fusion." Cody's eyes widened. "Of Professor Pikalus and Tanith." She added.

If Cody hadn't gotten all of that information they knew about him, he'd think they were bluffing but now he wasn't so sure. "Fusion? How does that work?"

The fusion fumbled for words. "It's... Weird. I have all these memories and even feelings that aren't mine! I'm two people, but I'm not them at the same time? I-... I'm still getting used to it. It's really conFUSING!" She joked, giggling to herself. Cody couldn't help but join in.

However, he stopped when he realized something. "Wait... Does that mean that you're their combined personalities? Can you hear them in your head? What happened to them?"

"I... Don't know? I can't hear them in my head, I just have my thoughts and I kinda feel like them but... I don't understand! It's so weird! I want to do ten things at once but at the same time, don't?" She threw her hands in the air and grabbed Cody's shoulders, lifting him off the ground with ease. "Help me!"

Cody didn't know what to do. He knew pretty much nothing about how fusion worked, and if anyone knew best it was probably the very fusion in front of him. However, seeing their distress, he had to say something. They were kinda like a child, and when a child is born, there is one thing you have to do.

"You need a name first!" He announced. They stopped shaking him and their eyes lit up.

"You're right! You're absolutely right!" She said, shouting it to the whole world. "I NEED A NAME!" Then whipped her head back to Cody. "What's my name?"

Cody thought to himself for a moment, before clapping his hands together. If they were a fusion of people, maybe they should have a fusion name. "Tikalus? No... Panith! How does Panith sound?"

"Panith..." She whispered, then suddenly shouted it. "PANITH! MY NAME'S PANITH EVERYONE!" Her voice was full of excitement. She giggled and started to swing Cody around in her grip, before finally putting him down. Cody stifled a laugh, but then more questions and ideas came to him.

"We should go to the lab. They might be able to shed some light on our little situation." Panith nodded and Cody led the way. "While we do that, mind if I ask more things?" She shrugged, which he took as a yes and went with it.

"So, even though you're a mix of a boy and a girl, you kinda look like a girl. Plus, you're completely human! What happened to the male and snake parts of you?"

Panith hesitated but in the end came up with something. "I think how I was formed kinda works like how genes normally do. It was just random! I got traits from both! Professor gave me the power to be human, and I got femininity from Tanith! I must have their-..." Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

"What did they look like? Before they formed into... Well, me? Some of my memories are scattered so I can't really remember."

Cody paused but slipped his phone out and brought up a picture he had of the three of them. Panith took the phone out of his hands and examined it herself.

Cody was in the middle, and had his arms on the other two's shoulders. Cody's body was more hunched over, but you could still see the joy on his face. He was in mid laugh, and looked like he was just told the best joke he'd ever heard. Professor looked like he was trying to hold his laughter in, but was failing. His eyes were on Cody, and you could tell he was losing it because of the penguin. Tanith didn't look quite as happy as the other two, but there was a genuinely happy smile plastered on her face, and you could just tell that she was content. If anything, she was just as happy as them, even if she didn't express it in the same manor.

As Panith stared at it, Cody asked one question that had been on his mind for a while. "So, what do you remember?"

She didn't answer right away, but did in the end. "Lots of bits and pieces. I remember that Professor and Tanith were trying to learn regeneration and how to apply it to humans by trying to mix some of Tanith's magic to Professor. It went wrong and instead turned Tanith into magically energy and forced the pair of them to merge. The machine exploded but did complete the process. I remember waking up in the rubble and getting so confused. The scientists tried to get me to stay around but... I just ran. I don't know why," She looked up to meet his brown eyes. "But my first instinct was to come to you. Those two might disagree, but I know they really care about you, so in turn,"

She smiled softly, and for a moment, it reminded Cody of Tanith. "I do too."

Then suddenly, she perked up, as if remembering something important. "Ooo! Ooo! I remember so many machines and GIANT ROBOTS! AND FIGHTING WITH GIANT ROBOTS!" She clapped her hands together. "So many awesome things that I kinda created! Man, I was awesome!" Cody couldn't help but feel that was her Professor side coming out.

Cody laughed. "You really are them huh?" She nodded. He grinned, and turned around, getting her to tilt her head. "Let's go to the ice cream parlor. The lab can wait, we deserve some ice cream."

At the place, Cody sat at his usual seat and called the waiter over. "One vanilla topping overload and one lemon lime- wait no... One double chocolate chip chocolate supreme- no not that either... Hmm..." Cody squinted at the menu. For a moment, he forgot that this wasn't just Professor or Tanith, it was both. Which favorite was he supposed to order?

Panith looked at it for a while before drifting down to something else. "That! I want that!" Cody followed where she was pointing and did a double take.

"Banana split?" She nodded eagerly, but Cody still wasn't sure. He knew that though they had different tastes, Tanith and Professor both agreed that banana split wasn't that good because the banana just didn't go well with the ice cream. "No, they don't like that."

Panith blinked. "But... I'm not them, remember? I'm me. Panith."

Cody took a moment but gave in in the end. "Fine, one banana split."

When the orders came back, Panith started to demolish her treat, but Cody just watched for a moment. Panith noticed and tilted her head in questioning. He quickly shook himself out of it, but couldn't deny that right then and there, something occurred to him.

As Panith ate the banana split, Cody realized this really wasn't just Tanith and Professor. He wasn't hanging out with some of his best friends, but rather... Their child? Either way, it kinda bummed him out a little. Yes. he did enjoy Panith's company, but it wasn't them.

Shaking off the thought, Cody quickly ate his and ushered them out. "Come on! We gotta go! The laboratory awaits!" He said, and started to leave.

Panith watched him and sighed, her head and shoulders drooping in defeat.

She knows. She knows that he doesn't exactly see them for them, but rather the thing that's remaining of them. She knows that she's neither of them, and that's killing him. She saw the way he looked at them, the confusion and slight disappointment. She saw the way he acts, and how quick he is to change the topic.

Panith took out Cody's phone, something she hasn't let go of, and opened it up, revealing the picture once again.

She focused in on the two people who make her up. Professor first, and then Tanith. She looked at how happy they make Cody, and feel a twig of guilt in her heart. She can't stop feeling one thing.

That she took away his best friends.

If that wasn't guilt enough, there was one remaining fact that she knew. One she hadn't told anyone, and it just made her feel selfish.

"Panith!" She quickly clicks the phone off and jerks her head in Cody's direction. "You coming?"

"Y-yeah! Be there in a sec!" She replies and puts the phone away.

THIS BOOK IS NOT DEAD! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Crap, how long has it been? Lemme check... JANUARY 27th? TWO MONTHS? Wow... This was LONG over due!

Don't worry, part 2 of the Gravity Falls Crossover is coming soon! I just really wanted to do this and I have a ton planed for it too! Plus, I JUST LOVE FUSION OKAY? I love it so much....

Fun Fact I didn't know until writing this: Panith is a real name? I looked it up and apparently it is? It really fit with the character too so lucky me! Also, ehehehehhe fusion jokes! There's a lot more where that came from!

Anyways, I've seen a lot of people do fusion, but I always saw fusion as not just two people forced into one body, but rather like if the fusion was their child instead, a making of the two of them, so I got inspired to do this! Yayyyyy, fusion!

I hope you liked this! Be sure to comment your thoughts and I'd love to hear what you liked about Panith so far! Goodbye!
