Chapter 34- Strife

Baby Blooper

"Come on! Not even a little bit?" I complained, trying to get Bruce to give in. Neither of his two heads even budged from their blank state. His head shook once again and I sighed. "There goes my last option..." I whipped around and left the armory.

Though I checked everywhere, I couldn't find a single person in the Conch Command that would agree to fight with me. Or I guess "Spar" is a better word, it makes it sound less brutal. I knew that as I would grow older, I'd need to pick up on villain stuff. Since most of the other things weren't interesting to me, like my Dad's suggested leadership training class which would be led by him, I decided I'd try to improve on fighting.

The only problem was no one would do it with me.

If I had been anyone else, they would have said yes. People always love to fight here, I see it all the time! But the only thing was this: I'm KrakenKid's son. Nobody wants to harm me, in fear that they'll be killed or at least screamed at. I tried everyone I could think of but all declined.

Stumbling back up the stairs, I was thinking of giving it up and go back to planning stuff out with Selena, but as I got up to my Dad's room, I paused. Someone I didn't fully recognize.

"Hey KK, I hope you don't mind me raiding your fridge but I kinda ran out of food on the way here." Though the top half was human, where legs should have been was a snake tail instead. The girl was near one of the fridges and hadn't seen me yet. "Also, do you have anything that isn't Special-" As she turned to me, her voice trailed off. Looking me up and down, her eyebrows knitted together. "You're not KK..."

I blinked. "What's a KK?"

"Oh, right. Sorry, I forget that's not his actual name sometimes. KK is KrakenKid. Are you Blooper by chance? His son? You look just like him." She quickly shut the fridge. I nodded.

"Yep. You're... That one snake lady... I forget the name but my Dad talks about you sometimes." Something instantly sparked in my head and I grinned. "Hey! You should spar with me!"

She blinked. "Uh, two things. One, hi, I'm Tanith, and two, what? Spar with you? I'm a great fighter. Plus, you're just a kid!"

I frowned, giving my best puppy dog eyes. "Awww, but no one else will! Think of it as training! You can become a better fighter, and I'll finally get some practice in! It's a win-win!"

To my surprise, she hesitated. "Well... True, I haven't been able to spar with anyone for a while, but I don't want to hurt you!"

Thinking back, I remember my father mentioning something. "Say, aren't you a medic? Couldn't you just heal us after we fight? We could even go all out and it won't matter in the end."

"That's... True actually. I could just magically heal us." She wiggled her fingers and it gave off a little golden glow. "And I don't have any other sparring choices..." She mumbled. I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow to it.

"Really? You too? What's your problem?"

Tanith sighed, leaning against the fridge. "Cody not only refuses but always seems to be busy when I ask. The Sneaky Sisters are way too fast for me to keep up and the only way I can defend myself is forming a force field and staying in it. I asked Professor to but he just laughed and left. I assumed that was a no. KK- KrakenKid- and I did spar once but... Oh boy, it didn't end well. That's a long story involving an interdimensional demon, an Ouija board and a ritual. I think you saw some of that but the point is, I don't have any options."

I smiled wider. "Neither do I! Come on!"

Though it took a while, eventually I got her to do it. I led her down to the arena and down to the fighting area. She followed closely behind. "Okay, give me all you got! I want a real challenge!"

Her multicolored tail flicked from side to side, clearly anxious. "Are you sure you want to do this? I will if you want me to but I might experiment a little with my abilities. Not sure how that will turn out."

I just rolled my eyes. "It's fiiiiine! Just stick to the rules. No healing until the end, or else I think you'll win. Also, it only stops when one of us is down, got it?" I said, taking out a dark purple sword. Tanith gave me a skeptical look but whipped out a silver staff anyways.

"I think so?"

"Great!" I grinned wickedly. "Go!"

I rushed forward and swung, aiming for her chest. Startled, she juked left and I missed. "Whoa! No holding back huh?" She exclaimed. I chuckled and shook my head.

"Don't worry, the sword isn't that sharp. It won't kill you... I mean hopefully."

Before she had time to react, I lunged again but she held up a the staff. The two weapons clanged together and I pushed on mine to hold my ground. Her blue eyes darted to my feet and before I could realize why, her tail swept me into the air and I hit the ground. Seeing her opening, Tanith swung but I rolled out of the way and stumbled to my feet.

"Nice one, but what about THIS!" I spent no extra time thinking about it and took out a throwing knife. I aimed randomly but was fortunate for it to land. It left a cut right in her left shoulder.

Having her now stunned, I took my chance to switch back to the sword. In the blink of an eye, I had dash and body slammed into her body and sent her back a couple feet. I went to strike with the sword but a red gem on her staff glowed and the other hand not holding it swung. Where she did, a little barrier appeared, just in that area. My sword struck it and though it didn't work, as I pull away, it vanished.

Both of us blinked. "That's new." She blurted out and tried it out again, having the same result. "Temporary shielding... Not a full dome so a bit easier to make but doesn't seem to be nearly as strong. Like a shield!" Her eyes soon turned to me, determined. "Now you're in trouble!"

Her weapon seemed to turn into a silver blob when she struck and I felt a pain in my side. I kept myself from tipping over but did backup for good measure. A smirk formed on my face.

The true battle had started.

Swimming as fast as I could carry myself, I sprang up with the sword in hand and plunged down on her. Once again, she formed the temporary shield but I hit it head on and it shattered like glass. Her eyes widened but as she tried to dip away, her long tail lagged behind, making it a target. I slashed at it, and she earned herself another wound.

Her fists tightened and a flash of blue came from them. Her palm opened and a little bubble formed from her hand. It looked just like her force fields but much smaller. Small enough to fit in her hand. She chucked it at me and before I had time to react, it hit right in the stomach and I flew back, only stopping when I slammed into the wall.

"HOLY CRAP!" Tanith screeched and covered her mouth. "I'M SO SORRY!"

Chuckling, I pushed myself to my feet and flickered open my eyes again. Though I had taken quite the impact, I wasn't going down that easily. "Not bad but-" I didn't finish and just started to throw knives. Tanith didn't think and just dodged, the first couple missing but two hit, in the right side and left arm.

Both of us ran towards the other and swung our main weapon. The staff and sword clashed and held. The hybrid attempted to get me off my feet again with her tail but I was ready for it. Jumping back and over her tail, I was safe. Spinning around, I swung again but that one was blocked as well. I kept using my spinning tactic and hit over and over again, but each time she protected herself somehow. Finally, I slashed on last time and when it was blocked, I pressed it against her weapon. I kicked out, landing a hit on her stomach. She winced, but didn't budge. I applied as much pressure as I could on my sword and then let go, hopping back.

That was getting me nowhere, so I took out my secret weapon: My father's special gun. Her eyes widened as I did. At such a close range, it would be effective.

I shot but she put up a full on dome to protect herself. However, the plasma bullets and whatever the magical force field was made of didn't seem to mix when hit head on. When it did, not only did the force field immediately drop but it cause an explosion and both of us were blown back.

Lying on the ground, I groaned. My whole body was in agony and didn't want to make the slightest of movements. But, knowing I had to, I slowly pushed myself to my feet and glanced up to see Tanith was doing the same. We both held a lazy gaze before I started to giggle. She must have found it contagious because soon she did the same.

"What was that? I didn't think that would happen! Sheesh!"

"I know right?" She agreed. "What happened there?"

The two of us slowly made our way over to each other, laughing it all off but right as we did, someone interrupted.

"There you are Bloop-... What the heck? What is going on here?" The two of us froze at the sound of KrakenKid's voice. As quickly as she could, Tanith let out a golden ray from her hands and soon, her and my wounds were practically all gone, besides a couple places where she missed and we both whipped around to where the entrance was an innocently smile.

"Heyyyy father... How are you?"

His yellow eyes shifted from me to Tanith, confused. Tanith glanced at me, smiling nervously and then looked back at the adult kraken. After a long moment of silence, he said something.
"... Did you two start sparring with each other because no one else would?"

"Maybe." We both said quickly.

KrakenKid sighed, putting his tentacle to his face. "Don't let it get out of hand. I swear if either of you gets hurt because of this-!"

"It's fine Dad!" I insisted.

"Don't worry KK, I just heal us both afterwards anyways!"

Though skeptical, he sighed and turned away. "Fine then... But only because it's good to practice. Now come on, dinner's ready."
