Chapter 30- Babysitting
Sneaky Selena
"So," I said as Sam led me outside our cave and nearby the railways. "What did you want to show me again?"
Sam's green tail continued to swish in the water with her dragon following behind. Endy, the once tiny Ender Dragon, was now almost as long as me. His wings continued to flap up and down, but now that they were getting big, he didn't have to do it as much. One stroke from them could keep him in the air for twice as much as he could before. Endy looked quite graceful while doing it. Finally, he stopped when their owner did.
Sam had paused on top of a hill, and pointed down at some stingrays. Almost as soon as she did, they noticed us and started to aggressively swim over. Instinctively, I backed up and took out a couple throwing knifes, but my sister stopped me before I could strike. "Hey, watch this!" She grinned, then turned her gaze to Endy.
The small Ender Dragon met her gaze and they just stood there, having a silent conversation before Sam nodded at them.
Endy's mouth opened and a purple flame began to form, a very similar color to his eyes and spat it right at them. It soared forward, hitting the one in front and made a little explosion when it did, but not one that could break anything. The impact not only took it down, but harmed the others near it. Some of the stingrays stopped, they had met their match and turned back, ultimately deciding it wasn't worth it. However, three kept coming. Endy charged another, firing two that grouped together, taking them both down. Only one was still looking for a fight.
It struck forward but Endy was ready. His black body juked out of the way when it went for a tackle. His long and spiked tail batted at them before he sunk his gleaming, white teeth into their body and they went still.
Endy had won without getting a scratch on him.
"Woah!" I exclaimed, impressed by Sam's training of him. "When did he learn that fire trick?"
"A little while ago." She answer, smiling. "He didn't know how to control it then so I kept it a secret until I could show you how well he's been doing. Who's a good boy?" Sam bent down and gave Endy a loving pet and a piece of fish, which he happily crunched on. As he munched, his head snuggled up to her side, emitting something that sounded like a purr, or as close as a dragon could get to one.
"He's gotten so big, what if he outgrows the house?"
Sam chuckled. "I've done my research and he isn't going to get too much bigger. Turns out they get a lot bigger than I thought before, but he'll still be small compared to what a regular Ender Dragon would be. Plus, he's still so cute!"
I nodded in agreement but then a loud ringing sound startled us both. It was easy to tell whose it was when I felt the vibration in my pocket and quickly whipped it out. The words "Gullible Guppy" was written on the screen, along with a funny picture of Cody popping up. I snickered at it before answering.
"Hello?"
"Hey Salami, I need a bit of a flavor." Cody said, speaking into the phone. Guessing that flavor meant favor, I decided to go with it.
"What?"
"Welll, as you probably already know, Tanith has been in the hospital for a while but they're finally letting her do the rest of her recover at home. Unfortunately, she still needs to take medicine to make sure she stays asleep for the time needed so that's going with her."
"Mmmhmmm." I hummed, nodding.
"And the medicine kinda makes her go loopy before working and it takes a little while to work." I let out a laugh, finally getting where this was going. "So, if you could just make sure she doesn't get into trouble before she falls asleep, that'd be great."
"Wait... We're babysitting Tanith?"
Cody hesitated from the other line but gave in. "Basically yeah. Once she falls asleep, you'll be good. Just check in on her every once in awhile, and when she wakes up again, repeat the process until either she goes down for good or the medicine wears off." I waited, considering my options. "I'll pay you 20 coins." Cody added.
"20? You've got yourself a deal. Hey Sam!" My sister looked up from petting Endy. "Wanna go babysitting with me? We get 20 coins if we do!"
Sam instantly grinned. "Yeah! Sounds like fun!"
I giggled and returned my focus to the phone. "I'll do it."
Sam and I gathered whatever necessary and headed over to the hybrids house. The door was open so we were able to walk right in. "Tanith? Helllooooo?" Sam called as we entered.
"Yes! I'm in the kitchen!" She hollered back, allowing us to come in.
Her house a little messy, things being out and around her living room, though both the couch and armchair looked untouched. Her kitchen was a different story.
At least three cookbooks were open and flour was all over them, as well as on the hybrid. Tanith was taking a tray out of the oven before turning off the machine and turning to us. "I got the sudden urge for cookies so I started baking. Sorry about the mess, I would have cleaned but I just got back from a friend's house. They needed help with food." She explained then started to wash off the powder on her face and hands. "I just took the medicine so it should be kick in... Anytime now. Feel free to take a cookie any time you want! I made a lot of them."
I quickly took her up on her offer, snatching a chocolate chip cookie from off the tray and biting into it, grinning at the sweet taste. "These are pretty good!" I admitted, getting the half snake to smile wider.
"Why thank you! I've been working on it when I have time to spare! Now, I should warn you both, I'm kinda weird when the medicine kicks in. Also, it's going to take effect soon so just watch out for that, okay?" The two of us nodded. How bad could this be?
Tanith wasn't kidding when she said it would take effect pretty soon. Within ten minutes, her personality changed into... Something.
"Heyyyy. Look how many scarves I've knitted!" She whispered with around ten different colored scarves wrapped around her neck and face. "I love them. I SHOULD NAME THEM!"
Sam and I couldn't keep ourselves from giggling at her. "They look nice." I complimented the best I could without laughing. "Though wearing that many doesn't really look good. Maybe choose just one?"
Tanith hummed, then stripped off the scarves until all that remained was a thick purple one with long ends. "I remember making this one! It was when I first came to Atlantis! I should knit more... Ooooooo! Do you think I could make working voooooodoooooo dolls? I've always wondered how voodoo works! Maybe I can like... Get free hotdogs from that one guy. Yeah! Imma gonna do that!"
I exchanged a glance with my sister and shrugged. "Maybe don't do that... Let's play a game." I suggested, walking over to the couch and getting the other two to join me. "How about Truth Or Dare?"
"What or what?" Tanith slurred, sitting down on an arm chair while Sam sat next to me on the couch. Her blue eyes squinted, filled with confusion.
"You've never played before?" I asked, surprised. She nodded. Never in my life had I met a person who never even knew of Truth Or Dare. "Well, someone will ask you if you want to pick Truth Or Dare. If you pick Truth, you have to answer a question and tell the truth, or if you pick dare, you have to do something, no matter what!"
Tanith grinned wildly, nodding. "Alright, let's do it!"
We played the game for a while, each either answering a question or doing something. I had to tell them about my secret fear of crayfish and did two dares, one where I had to prank call Cody and try to sell him something and the other was to do my best impression of Professor Pikalus.
Tanith did one dare and one truth, the truth being how she told us a story of how she and Cody got banned from the Atlantis Zoo and the other was to prank call a randomly selected contact on her phone and tell them how beautiful they are, going into detail. The contact randomly clicked happened to be Rasmus, who actually took it rather well. If anything, I think we boosted his confidence for the day.
Sam did one dare and one truth, the dare being to drink a mystery drink and she had to tell us about her secret love for sharks and how cool they looked.
Finally, it was once again my turn. "Hmmm..." I examined both of them, eyes squinted until finally saying it. "Sam! Truth Or Dare!"
"Truth." She chose, making me smirk.
"Who do you like?"
Sam huffed as Tanith made a 'Ohhhhhh!' noise. "Well, I'm not really sure. I mean, Cody's really the only guy I'd consider going out with, but I don't really know. What would it even be like to date him?"
"Ooooooooooooooo! You got a crush on Cody!" Tanith cackled. "I hear the wedding bellssss!"
Sam playfully rolled her eyes and turned to the hybrid. "Well Tanith, Truth Or Dare?"
"HRMMMMMMMM!" Tanith made a loud humming noise, acting like it was so tough to choose before simply saying, "Truth!"
Sam got a wicked smile on her face and leaned forward. "You do YOU have a crush on?"
Tanith blushed but started to use her hands as a motion to lean forward. "Okayyy, I'll tell but shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone!" Sam and I were quick to nod and lean our heads forward. Tanith looked around, as if she was checking to make sure no one else was listening before leaning in and starting to whisper.
"My crush is on.... THE MUFFIN MAN!"
Tanith started to laugh like it was the best joke she'd heard in years. Sam rolled her eyes, but didn't seem too bothered by it. "I almost forgot she was still on medication." She muttered to me and I nodded.
When the hybrid finally stopped, which seemed like an eternity later, her eyes drooped down. We tried to get her to get up the stairs but after failing several times, we just let her sleep on the couch. Not even seconds later, she was fast asleep.
The two of us stuck around for a while before deciding to spend time in the market. While down there, one of the places was selling swords that looked like swordfish and me and my sister couldn't resist but having a sword fight with them. I ended up winning when Sam fell off one of the tables and dropped her weapon. We then bought some cheesecake and started to head back to Tanith's house to check up on her. It had been around three hours since we'd last checked. It would have been less but we got really into the sword fight.
Cracking open the door, I slipped into the house. The plan was for me just to check up and then we'd go out again. Approaching the couch, I peered over. Then my heart stopped.
Though the blanket and pillows were still there, the half human was gone. "Ohhhh.... This isn't good. Hey Sam!" I called, getting her to come in. "She's gone!"
"What?" Sam came over to see for herself. "Did she go upstairs?"
I went to check, but then another factor stopped my heart. "The backdoor is wide open!" I called, fear beginning to creep into my heart.
Sam groaned as she walked over to my side. "She could be anywhere!"
Sam and I began to look around, locally at first. No sign of the hybrid was found, nor could we find anything that would lead to her. We tried calling her phone, but she left it behind. We were stuck. "We could call Cody, but then he might not pay us for doing a good job... Oh! I have a friend that might help!" I pulled out my phone and started looking for the contact. Eventually, I did and clicked on it.
It started to ring almost going to voicemail but he picked up in the end. "Hello?"
"Hey Blooper, I need your help."
I could almost hear him smiling from the other side of the phone. "And how may the great Blooper grace you with his help?"
I shook my head at him but continued to talk. "Do you know Tanith? She's half human and half snake?"
"Hmmm... Yes. Wait! Which half is human and which half is snake?"
"Uh, top is human and bottom is snake."
"In that case, yes. My Dad has mentioned her once or twice. Or a lot, I don't really know. I tune him out a lot when he starts to ramble about things."
"I do the same to Cody sometimes but anyways, we need your help finding her. Can you search around the area around your house? Maybe check the beach?"
Blooper groaned. "But... I just sat down. I'm so comfortable."
"I... I have cookies! We can hang out, do whatever you want!" Blooper didn't respond. "... I'll pay you."
"How much?" He asked quickly. I grinned.
"Five coins."
"Well, since you so kindly offered, I will help... For seven coins."
I grumbled but agreed. "Fine, fine, seven coins it is."
"Yes! Alright, I'll check around. See ya Salami!" He said before hanging up.
Sam and I searched for a little while, but not five minutes later, Blooper called again. I sighed and answered. Probably learned he was busy and couldn't do it or something. "What?"
"That one person you're looking for, does she have long hair and her tail has like, three colors? Yellow, black and red?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I just found her."
My eyes widened. "What? Where? How did you find her so quickly?"
Blooper laughed. "She's at the huge crystals right outside of my tunnels! She's just staring at them!"
I huffed to myself. "We'll be right over there."
The two of us quickly got over there and found Blooper wasn't kidding. Tanith was just sitting under the tall and blue crystals, then said something about how beautiful they were and kept rambling about it. Sam offered to take her back and back to bed, allowing me and Blooper to go to our tunnels.
Along the way, I told him everything that happened. He found it hilarious to say the least.
"So you just lost her?" He giggled. "Selena, never have children."
"Hey!" I protested. "I could be a great Mom!"
"Sureeeeee." Blooper shook his head. I crossed my arms, trying to act mad even though some part of it was true. My skills with kids really needed to be improved. "Anyways, want a muffin?" He offered, holding one out. "My Dad had to make some, then he had to get help because he ended up making way too much batter. Everyone got a kick out of it. Anyways, since I have like twenty with me, want one?"
I nodded. "Yeah." I quickly munched on it before thinking of something. "Hey, wanna go pull a prank on Cody?"
"Uh, of course! Do you even have to ask?"
"Great! I want to make it huge! I want to really trick him."
Blooper snickered. "Wait, is it like a 'Stink Bomb' kinda prank or like my 'Faked Trying To Take Over The Conch Command, Freaking Out My Dad' kinda prank?"
"Definitely a 'Faked Trying To Take Over The Conch Command, Freaking Out My Dad' kinda prank. It might take a while to plan, but I'm willing to do it!"
Blooper grinned maniacally. "Oh, this is going to be fun."
***************************************
This should complete the saga of "Tanith and her sleeping medicine" Though references of it might appear, she'll be back to normal! This was a pretty fun chapter to make! And, has a couple *whispers* Easter eggs hidden in it! I don't normally point out when a chapter has those, but this one is... Important. Not really sure if that's the word I'm looking for, but it should please at least one of you. :)
I am planning to make two chapters that will later reference this one, one is obvious what it will be, the other not so much.
I hope you liked this! Be sure to comment your thoughts, and whether or not if you found what "Easter Egg" I was talking about ;)
See ya!
