Chapter 16- Closet
CannibalCrab
My eyes stared up at the ceiling as time passed by. The ticking of the clock was all that filled my ears. I started to just focus on the sound, having nothing else to do while I was waiting. I shifted once again in the bed and adjusted the red blankets and the pillow as well. Nothing was working.
Giving up, I slowly inched up and stretched my arms, flexing my claws as well. For a moment, I just stayed, sitting up in the bed and sighed to myself. Glancing to the right, the clock caught my eye and only told me what I already knew. "It's four in the morning," I huffed and stood up. "And for some reason, I can't sleep. What a great way to start off the day."
I left my room and gather a couple of things, namely my IPhone, Cutlass and trench gun. Of course, there was one very important thing that needed a bit of prepping. Strolling over to the fridge, I pulled out some of the raw crab and popped it in the oven. Once it was ready, I exited my house.
The only question now was what am I going to do? It's 4 AM and half of the Conch Command is asleep! Maybe Harold or Darrel has something for me to do? As I made my way over to the entrance, a figure moving made me stop.
To the right of the Conch Command was somebody moving towards the back part of the base. They moved quickly, I found it hard to get a good look at them in the dark and at their rate of movement. Soon, they turned the corner, out of my sight. "That's odd..." I mumbled to myself. "Who goes to the back at this time of night?" My eyes narrowed. They could be up to no good, and as a general, it was my job to stop them. Why the guards didn't stop them was beyond me.
I followed their path, keeping silent and even didn't make a sound when one of my feet hit the edge of a stone. I managed to push through the pain, but only just barely. Once I reached where I last saw them, I scanned the area. As I was, something disappeared into the window.
KrakenKid's balcony window.
I found myself swimming faster than I ever had before in a state of panic. Reaching the top, I burst in. The intruder was slightly alarmed but seemed more confused than anything. Before I could demand anything out of them, I found myself out of breath. Man, maybe I should work out more... My stamina is less than impressive. Good thing Kraken doesn't know or he'd do something about it.
As I refueled my lungs, I got a good look at the once unknown figure.
They were female, that was pretty clear. She had blue eyes and white skin, with a l brownish and yellowish hair combination color. This wasn't the only combination either, for though she looked human on the top, below her waist was a snake tail, having the patterns of a coral snake. She wore a wavy shirt that was a deep red color and her hair was pretty long, reaching quite low on her back.
One thing I found unusual noticed was a yellow wristband on her right arm.
"..... Hi?" The female raised her eyebrow at me. I took in a long breath before speaking. "What do you think-" She cut me off with a 'Shh' sound then pointed to her right.
I glanced over then suddenly understood what she was trying to tell me. On a large bed, there was two sleeping krakens, both had a tiny but still noticeable smile on their face. KrakenKid, the larger of the two, was holding on to Blooper, who was comfortable in his arms. I couldn't help but stare in awe at the sight. Blooper might have been... Scary at times, but at this moment, I didn't care.
This was cute dang it!
"Oh!" I lowered my volume and tried talking again. "What are you doing here? Who are you anyways?" I whispered to the hybrid. The blue eyes glanced over at the bed before returning to my eyes. "I was visiting KK over here but," She shrugged. "That's not going to happen for a while. I can't wake him up and especially not like this! Oh, and I'm Tanith by the way, KK's friend. Nice to meet you." She held out her hand, which I hesitantly accepted. KK? What? Is she talking about KrakenKid?
"Okay, Tanith, is that all?" I raised my eyebrow at the lady and examined her face for signs of truth. She thought for a moment. "Well... To be honest I was going to take a picture of these two cuties because, well, just look at them! I can't not take a picture of it!" She pulled out a IPhone and opened it up. I stared at her. "Wait! You can't do that, KrakenKid will be furious!" I waved my arms and caused her to pause.
She hummed for a moment, then gazed back at the pair. "Well... KK isn't awake right now so how could he know?" Tanith pointed out. I paused, then fumbled for my phone and snapped a picture in seconds. The female snickered and pressed it down herself.
A flash emitted from her phone and we both slowly gaped in horror.
"WHY DID YOU HAVE THE FLASH ON?" I hissed at her. "I just got my own phone a couple months ago, I'm still working the controls!" Tanith protested.
A shifting coming from the bed froze us and we whipped around to see it. The leader of the Tide Changers was stirring. At that moment, we both panicked. "Crap! He can't know I did this! Last time didn't go well! Quick, hide over here!" I ushered her over to the end of the room and near the tomb with golden lining. We both squatted behind it and backed up slowly, getting close to the wall. However, as I did, the wall disappeared behind me and revealed something I never knew.
"He's got another room?"
The room was pretty small, only having a password protected chest inside. I stared in disbelief. "I thought I knew everything... Why does he have a secret room?" As I started to think more on it, Tanith pushed past me. "No time to think about it, just get in!" I snapped out of it and obeyed.
Inside, we both stayed silent and listened for the movement outside. It grew more apparent until he spoke. "Good morning Tide Changers...." A voice spoke softly then yawned, smacking their lips afterwards. The voice, most likely KrakenKid, then hummed to himself. "Well, good thing I woke up early, I've got some computer stuff to do!" Soon, the water outside swished and followed by keys on a computer typing.
I sighed. "I don't think we'll be able to leave for a while now. Not without him finding out everything and that we now know about his secret area so..." I leaned back on the wall. "Might as well get comfortable." The hybrid huffed and coiled her snake half up, soon relaxing. Neither of us said anything for a while.
"I never got your name." She spoke after a while. It then occurred to me that I never even mentioned it. "Oh, it's CannibalCrab." I answered quickly. Her eyebrow raised a bit. "CannibalCrab... Sounds kinda familiar." She mused, mostly to herself. I didn't say anything and just started to devour some crab. As I did, her blue eyes stared, as if they were contemplating something. I finished and waited. "What?" I said finally.
"Okay, weird question but, are most of you Tide Changers cannibals?"
I snickered. "No it's mainly just me. Why do you say most?" As soon as I asked, I answered my own question with a thought. "Wait... Are you talking about KrakenKid's Special Chicken and how it's-" She nodded. More laughter escaped me. "Well, technically yes, that does make him one but he doesn't know that. No one in the Conch Command has the heart to tell him either." Tanith stifled a chuckle. "Yeah, I didn't either. He just looked so happy eating it and I couldn't spoil that."
The light laughter died down and we stopped talking for a while. Time was passing and I had no idea how long we had been in there. With her right hand, she began to tap on her long snake tail. It wasn't random, she did it in a very particular way. As she did, the yellow wristband came back to my mind. "What is that anyways?" She stopped, making a 'Hmm?' sound in the process. I pointed to the wristband.
"Oh, it's a hospital band, used for patients there." My eyebrow raised. "You're a patient at a hospital?" She shrugged halfheartedly, then nodded.
"Does each color mean something different?" Another nod.
"What's yellow then?" Her eyes drew back down to her arm. She raised it, shifting the bracelet around her wrist. "Fall Risk, or people who have a possibility of falling while admitted." I didn't even say anything, just giving her a strange look. She began to explain herself.
"I over exhausted myself then was admitted into a hospital. While recovering, I did it again and my body really didn't like me for that. Out of that, I earned myself 36 hours long hours in the hospital and this thing. My muscles were weak and I fell a couple of times which made them slap this on my wrist and the doctors confined me to a bed. I got really irritated and impatient for someone to give me the "Okay" so I gave it to myself and left secretly. That's why came here at four in the morning, I couldn't sleep and had nowhere else to visit without my friends putting me right back in that place and making me rest until I'm, "Fully Recovered" or something like that."
I nodded with the story. "Yeah, I'm not much of a hospital person." I chuckled, remembering when I lost my voice and was hospitalized for what seemed like ages.
The typing stopped catching both our attention. I stood up straight with Tanith coming to my side. "Is he done yet?" She whispered. I took a deep breath before exiting the room and peeking out. Almost right when I did, a purple head disappeared by the stairs. I signaled her to follow and slid out of the doorway, behind the tomb. I paused before allowing myself to be out in the open.
"I think he's gone."
Tanith slithered from hiding and inspected it herself. KrakenKid was gone from sight, only leaving BabyBlooper curled up in his bed. Still kinda cute. I couldn't help but smile. Tanith did the same. We were so focused on the sight that we didn't hear what was going on behind us.
"Uh."
The voice made me whip around and everyone froze. At the top of the stairs was the leader of the Tide Changers, and my boss. His yellow eyes searched us. He opened his mouth, but I spoke first.
"RUN!"
Bolting away, the two of us jumped out of the window and split off. KrakenKid called after us. "Wait! WAIT!" But I didn't stop and just kept my eyes on home.
Later in the day, while I was minding my own business, I got a visitor. I sweated a bit when I saw them but tried to play it cool.
"Hey Kraken, how are you doing?" I spoke as nonchalantly as possible. His eyes narrowed. "What were you doing in my room Cannibal? I know you weren't there when I was in there seconds ago and then suddenly you were. Explain yourself!" He demanded. I sighed rubbing the back of my head sheepishly. "I followed that friend of yours up there." The yellow eyes squinted even lower. "And that's it?" I gulped. "I might have taken a picture of you and Blooper and then she did too, then you started to wake up because her flash was on so we hid in the secret closet you have."
He just stared. "You found the secret room?" Then sighed. "I suppose you were going to find out eventually but..." KrakenKid muttered something under his breath that I didn't hear. I decided to ignore it. His mouth opened again but I held up my phone to stop him. "Before you make up some sort of punishment, I have a picture of you and Blooper and am not afraid to show it to everyone."
Yellow eyes widened. Last time I shared a cute picture of KrakenKid was when I got ahold of his baby pictures and show it to everyone. For a month straight everyone lightly teased him to the point where he snapped and threatened to shoot everyone who brought it up, then later I had to do janitorial duties for two months. He might have ended it before, showing something like this might have been worse than last time. The kraken was silent but gave in. "Fine. Just... Keep it to yourself okay? I need to go take care of the other one."
Getting up, I could have sworn I heard him mumble something along the lines of: "Why does she keep going through the window?" Before he reached the tunnel out, I smirked and called out to him.
"Goodbye KK!"
"You're not allowed to call me that!"
