Update : here's something to drill into your head; your model is already wearing makeup. Your job is not to make the model look "pretty" or whatever, your job is to make the model give off the vibe your design is trying to give off. All that contour and highlight does not mean shit if you don't understand what your model is trying to represent and how lighting affects your model.

[ EYESHADOW ]

When you're painting eyeshadow this is actually what you're painting (probably)

Let's make a basic eyeshadow look ok? :D

1. Brush the browbone with a light colour to highlight it a little.

2. Paint the Above crease (below browbone) a dark colour (or light, depending on what you're going for)

3. There's a mistake in number three. I mean Paint the CREASE a darker colour lol.

4–6. Paint the inner, outer and middle lid. You can make it a gradient thing, with the outer being the darkest, but here i made the middle the lightest instead of the inner .

8. I repeated what i did in the upper lid.

9. Line the lining lol with a pen (fade)

10. Add highlights to that tear duct area (or the place around where dust collects? Idk)

The rest is self explanatory and I'm lazy.

[ LIPS ]

ok the most basic way to paint lips is just to use your AIRBRUSH, brush over the lip shape and set it to overlay or something, so I won't talk about that.

For this basic lip tutorial imma be talking Korean style lipstick.

1. Airbrush the lips with the model's skin colour and reduce the opacity. You can also set it to lighten if you want.

2. Use your airbrush to darken the deepest parts of the lips .

3. Do it again, but with a smaller airbrush and a darker colour

4. Add highlights. I like adding highlights like scribbles but you can do otherwise! It's up to you

[ CONTOUR & HIGHLIGHTS ]

So you've probably seen a tutorial about highlights and contour that ended up in something like this :

And I'm here to put a stop to this madness.

First of all, think of the model you're editing before you start contouring. This is fucking IU, who has the softest face in the history of life and y'all wanna make her look like Kim Kardashian's uglier twin??? No

Look at the NATURAL face shape IU has and contour ACCORDINGLY.

Second of all, learn how to BLEND. BLEND.

We don't want to look at someone and think "oh she has contour on" what we want to think is "FLAWLESS" OR "Pretty!"

It's like you want the world to know that you've edited the model so you overdo the contour like you want to cast them in Maleficent 3 🗿

Stop it.

We don't need to know you contoured. That's the point.

Ok so here's how we do a soft face look

Let's smudge IU's face first

Now let's see. Some areas need to have lighter contour than others, so we'll label the lighter ones 1 and the darker ones 2.

Now we shade by colour picking her skin and setting the layer to multiply.

Remember to reduce opacity.

See how subtle it is? You can't even tell the difference right away.

That's how you do it hoes.

Now it's time to add blush–and i know what you're thinking, but no, we are not about to make our character look like they have the pox.

It's just a light pink brush over the contour–a normal part of makeup.

Subtlleee.

Now for highlights. Like we did before, we're gonna pick places with bright highlight and not so bright highlight.

The other side of the cheek is 1 because that side of her face is darker due to lighting.

Now put your highlight

It's simple. It's subtle. It's everything you'd ever need

This works so great for side profiles. Front profiles–eh.

Gey yo model.

Her face already has natural highlights, but that's not what we're tryna emphasize. So colour pick her skin and brush all over them highlights and contour.

Now contour and blush

Now subtle highlights. Don't use add pls. Use screen.

Now for them slay highlights (now you can use add) for the cheekbones and nose.

Update : you can go beyond this, but please stick to using your airbrush. I see a lot of people misusing the dip pen for cheek highlights and it irks my entire being to no end.
