Today is a different type of thing, not about graphics but about the designers and communities themselves :) and things you should never say/do to graphic designers unless you want to get beaten up.

+Ps. I use "you're/you/you've etc" in place of "they're/they/they've etc" to make it sound more attacking :)

WHAT NOT TO DO TO–

–GRAPHIC SHOP DESIGNERS

1. Ignore the rules they set out

Every graphic designer has a specific set of rules in their shop–ranging from the most general ones being "don't claim as your own" and "don't shop hop", to more specific ones like "don't request trilogies" and "don't request celebrity face claims".

These rules, no matter how broad or specific, are sacred as fuck, and as a requester you should have the basic decency to go THROUGH these rules before hopping into the comments and filling out a form.

Like honestly sometimes I wonder if people on wattpad can actually read, because designers be like

"password is your favourite colour"–in bold underlined italics capitals.

and requesters gon be like

2. Get mad when they deny your request.

I'm sorry, are you paying them to make your cover?

The entitlement is baffling to me because like,, the only thing you're giving the graphic designer is probably a follow and a shout-out or some pointless shit yet you think they should drop everything in the world to make a cover for your basic book???

Some designers just won't want to make your cover out of personal reasons or because your request was a fucking mess. There's no need to be a bitch about rejection. Go find some other shops you fucking graph-incel.

3. Edit the graphic they make for you

What is now the fucking point of asking someone else to make your cover??

Just make it by yourself if that's the case, useless fellow 😒

No fr, I just don't understand why you can't just be like "hey i like this thank you sm! But could you maybe reduce the saturation a bit?" LITERALLY no designer will attack you for doing that jfc.

Editing over someone's graphic is akin to editing over someone's art–it's fucking disrespectful.

And most of the time the requester's "finishing touches" be looking like fucking trash I'm sorry 💀 like leave the heavy lifting to the big boys ok?

4. Turn a graphic designer into your personal load dump

I understand having a graphic designer who you prefer the most and requesting from them–but showing up to someone's shop for the first time and being like

"I would like 15 covers with banners and gifs for each of the chapters which is like 100– also can you make me an icon?"

No thank you.

If I wanted to be a slave I would just go back in time 😘

5. Ask for the removal of their watermark

You absolute wretched fellow, do you not understand the kind of red flags that gives off?

It makes you look like you want to rip their cover and claim it as yours. It makes you look like you want to discredit their hard work. It makes you look like having "design by ___" on your cover is some sort of horrible omen and you don't want the designer to get the attention they deserve.

Sorry that graphic designers don't trust y'all enough to put the credit in the description 🙄 smh

And besides it's super aesthetic to have "design by–" on your book.

6. Tell them one thing in the request, then tell them another thing when explaining why you want a redo

Random requester : for ideas maybe we can get a girl on a car with highlights around her like in those cool action movies?

Designer : ok

Designer : *makes exactly that and posts* please let me know what you think :)

Random Requester : uhm this isn't what i wanted??? I wanted a girl on a horse not a car pls

Designer : what the fu–

7. Give them vague details then proceed to complain when they don't give you what you want

Random Requester : uhm the girl can be any girl really lol! Go crazy! I trust your decision

Designer : ok...*uses kpop model*

Random Requester : this is not my mc! My mc is spanish not asian!!!!

Designer : do i look like i read your fucking bo–WHY DIDN'T YOU MENTION THAT BEFORE

7. Request for a book you know you do not plan on keeping

Imagine making a cover for someone and then the next day the book has vanished? Why? Bc the author has the decisive skills of a roach, apparently.

Just–at LEAST keep the book up for a while and let the designer feel proud and happy

Or just don't request when you know you bouta unpublish one second later.

–GRAPHIC TOURNAMENT HOSTS

1. Drop out bc you have the commitment skills of a  teenage boy

Don't waste my time or my energy. If you know you don't have commitment skills or you don't have time then

It's different when it's one or three people dropping out, but when it's multiple people dropping out quickly it's fucking annoying and is a blow to the hosts. Stop signing up for shit u can't commit to.

💀To this day I can't believe i had two people who didn't even SUBMIT in the first challenge. Like it baffles me how can you not even show up for the FIRST CHALLENGE? Like nigga ffs

2. Submit a long time after the deadline

Stop it. Not only are you delaying the contest, messing with the host's sanity and pissing off the judges, you are also annoying the people who submitted earlier and would like to see the scores posted.

Hosts, a personal message from me to you : if they don't make the entry one week after the deadline they aren't making the entry. Kick em out pls they're wasting our time🌈👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

3. Ignore the contest requirements

Can y'all not read??? Like seriously, do people on this app generally designed for reading and writing actually know how to fucking READ? Bc it doesn't look like it 😔

Hosts be like "size requirement 1024 by 1600" and contestants be bringing out a square.
