Chapter {(3)} Flour
Annabeth trudged towards Percy's apartment, relentlessly kicking rocks into the road. She's been walking for an hour, with no luck. She just could not find Percy's apartment building.
She checked her phone for the address he had sent her.
Upper East Side blah blah blah.
She looked up from her phone at a decently rundown building. Annabeth shook her head and pushed through the doors. She walked up to the front desk, "I'm looking for the Jackson apartment. Percy didn't give me a room number."
The man at the desk chucked, shaking his head, "Classic Percy. Room 3018, ma'am." She thanked the door man and walked over to the elevator, stripping her jacket. She pressed the up arrow and waited while tying her jacket around her waist.
She wiped off her makeup, forgetting why she had come to this building.
The elevator dinged and the doors slid open.
~
Annabeth rapped her knuckled against the wood door and waited. A few moments later an older woman with dark hair and soft eyes opened the door.
"Ah, you must be Annabeth," she said, wiping her hands on an apron, "I'm Sally, Percy's mother."
"Helly, Sally. It's nice to meet you." the two women shook hands and Sally invited Annabeth inside.
"Percy's in the Tv room, dear." Sally told her.
"Thank you, Mrs. Jackson." Annabeth smiled.
Sally smiled back and headed towards the kitchen, winking at Annabeth. Annabeth explored deeper into the apartment, following the sound of the Tv.
"Wise Girl!" Annabeth turned to see Percy exiting a room, which she assumed was the bathroom.
"Hey Percy-" she stopped short when she realized he was in swim trunks.
Percy blushed, "Yeah... I was just swimming in the public pool. I got back about... twenty minutes ago?"
Annabeth scrunched up her nose, "Go put a shirt on."
Percy smirked, "You sure you want that?" he winked.
Annabeth scoffed, "You're aware you have no chance whatsoever."
"No chance with what?" Percy looked genuinely confused.
"Me. Now go put a shirt on."
~
After about twenty minutes of hearing Percy ramble about the ocean and swimming, Annabeth saw it fit to start on the essay.
"Okay, I get it, Percy!"
Said boy blushed, "Yeah..."
"So, technically... We have to learn about each other and write a biography- or is it autobiography...."
"Wow, Wise Girl. Your nickname might just be in vain." Percy snickered.
"Shut up! And I wouldn't mind if you stopped calling me that," Annabeth smirked.
"Whatever, Annie."
"Don't call me Annie."
"I call you Annie all the-"
"Shut up."
"Okay."
"So," Annabeth began, "First things first."
"What's first?" Percy asked, Annabeth admiring his ability to be so stupid.
"We learn about each other."
"Right, uh..."
"Oh my gods, Percy!" Annabeth huffed.
Percy smiled innocently, "Yes, Annabeth?"
Annabeth rolled her eyes, "What's your favorite color?"
"Blue."
"Favorite food?"
"Blue cookies."
"Hobby?"
"Swimming."
"Life goal?"
Percy thought for a second, then looked at Annabeth, "Too personal."
"Please, Percy?"
Percy bit him lip, "Getting my parents back together,"
Annabeth was silent. She understood just what he wanted when it came to his parents, "Me too, Percy."
"Next question." Percy hissed.
Annabeth looked at the paper, "Dream girl?" Annabeth muttered.
Percy snorted, "There's no way it actually says that!"
Annabeth shoved the paper in his face and he wrinkled his nose, "Wow. Just... No."
Annabeth smirked, "So, Percy. What's your dream girl like?" she wiggled her eyebrows.
Percy cocked his head slightly, "Smart... Loyal... Don't really care what she looks like-"
"Let me stop you right there," Annabeth put up her hand.
Percy raised his eyebrows, "What?"
"Why wouldn't you care what she looks like? I mean, it's not like you would have to stick with an ugly-"
"Annabeth. I'm pretty much not worth a good looking girl, just saying."
Annabeth snorted, "Have you seen yourself? You're probably hot enough to get any girl you want. Also-" she stopped talking when she realized what she had said.
Percy was grinning smugly.
"That's not what I meant!," Annabeth cried desperately.
Percy nodded smugly, "Sure,"
Annabeth made a face.
"Percy!" Sally called.
"Yeah, mom?" Percy yelled.
"I'm going out! I should be back at eight!"
"Okay, bye mom!"
"Bye sweety!"
Annabeth smirked, "Sweety," she said smugly.
"Shut up," Percy growled.
~
Percy strolled to the kitchen, Annabeth following close behind.
"Cookies or brownies?" he asked.
Annabeth put on her thinking face, "Brownies," she decided.
"But those can't be blue," Percy whined.
Annabeth rolled her eyes, "Cookies, then."
Percy smiled, "But you want brownies."
A smile tugged at Annabeth's lips. Percy sat on the counter and opened the cupboard. Annabeth watched him skeptically, but realized what he was doing as he reached for the very top shelf. The flour fell from the shelf and hit the countertop with a thunk.
Unfortunately, it was open.
Flour exploded all over the entire kitchen, covering Annabeth in a sheet of white.
Percy's eyes widened and he hopped from the counter, shaking flour out of his hair.
"Well, that went well." he muttered.
Annabeth snickered, "Maybe if you were taller..."
"Shut up," Percy grumbled.
"That's the.. third time you've told me to shut up today. Not very gentlemanly." ANnabeth stood up straight and Percy smirked at her.
Flour nailed her in the face.
Annabeth growled and scooped up a handful of the white powder. Percy's eyes widened and he darted out of the kitchen. Annabeth chased after him, cupping the flour between her hands. Percy yelped as he tripped over a stray bowl in the T.V room.
Annabeth smirked and dropped the powder all over him.
"It's on." Percy grinned.
Soon, they were running in and out of the kitchen, throwing the white powder at each other. More than once, they had to stop and sneeze the white stuff out of their noses.
Percy stopped suddenly and Annabeth took that as her advantage. She threw the powder at his face, but he didn't react.
Annabeth realized why he had stopped. Flour was on the walls and stuck in the carpet, and it was 7:56. Sally would be back very soon.
Annabeth swore colorfully and ran into the kitchen, Percy following suit.
"Uh... Get some washcloths wet and get it off the walls...." Percy told her weakly.
Annabeth nodded quickly and did as she was told. Percy left the kitchen and Annabeth heard the vacuum starting. Within five minutes, the T.V room was clean. The kitchen was a whole different matter.
Just then, the apartment door opened, and Sally wasn't alone.
