Chapter {(1)} Meeting Jackson

Annabeth made her way down the hall, the lockers lining the walls on either side of her. Her curly blonde hair was in a straightened ponytail and magenta rose headband wrapped around her forehead. Much to her dismay, her dark jeans squeezedd her curves. Floral Keds protected her broken-toed feet, making sure not a single soul saw the damage.

She wore a gray tanktop with a white croptop over the top. Her eyes were popping because of the thick layer of mascara and silver eyeshadow.

"Annie!" a high-pitched voice squealed.

Annabeth turned around, unwary, "Hello, Britt."

"So... Did you hear about the new guy? Heard he's hot." the caramel haired girl ranted.

"New victim for heartbreak or possible friend... Good to know, Britt." Annabeth struggled keeping her voice serious as possible.

"You seem weird today. Where's Luke, by the way?" Britt cocked her head, her caramel curls flailing.

"He um... He's not gonna be here. He got, um... Hospitalized."

"Why?" Britt blanched.

"No reason," Annabeth sighed.

"Okay, Annie. See you second period!" Britt waved as she turned around, tossing her flamingo print bag over her shoulder.

Britt was one of the good girls that stood at Annabeth's rank: Popular. She never questioned her too much nor was she too cruel and petty. It worked well enough for Annabeth, though Britt wasn't as protected as she'd hoped.

Annabeth had secured her position and she planned to keep it secure, and she knew she could.

At least, she thought she knew.

Annabeth dragged herself out of English class, unaware of the new kid's eyes on her back.

"Annie," a voice drawled as she opened her locker.

Annabeth jumped and looked over and Drew, "Hey, Drew."

"So, you seen the new kid?" she said quietly.

Annabeth glanced at her, "No, why?"

Drew smirked, "He's definitely been watching you. But, then again, everyone is." she snarled.

Annabeth smirked, "Bitch, if he has an eye on me, let him. Not like he's got a chance. He's all yours. Maybe Rachel would even take an interest in him, considering she's always wanted the guys that like me. That little bitch." Annabeth's heart hurt just saying this.

Rachel had been her best friend in eighth grade, but now they were practically arch-enemies. It had to sting when Annabeth had turned on her, taking the popular kids as her new group.

Only Piper understood why, but Annabeth didn't plan on telling anyone else, especially Rachel.

"Okay, Annie. Have fun," Drew winked and strutted off, Lacey stumbling after her nervously.

Annnabeth rolled her eyes and grabbed her books, soon slamming her locker shut. She sighed heavily and went to look for Britt.

On the way, she managed to run into someone and spill all of her books. Annabeth blew out through her lips.

"Sorry!" a guys voice yelped.

She looked over at the guy, quickly realizing he was the new kid.

He squinted, "Um..."

"You must be... Percy Jackson?" Annabeth asked, narrowing her eyes.

"Uh, yeah. And you are...?"

"Annabeth. Annabeth Chase."

Percy nodded slowly, his green eyes darting to the books, "Uh, you want help cleaning these up?"

"Oh! Yeah, that would be great, thanks." Annabeth said quickly.

Percy smiled weakly and squatted down, scooping up a few of the books. Annabeth couldn't help but watch him, mesmerized by his arms.

"Annabeth?" Percy snapped his fingers in her face.

Annabeth's eyes widened as she realized she's zoned out completely, "Oh gods! You don't speak to anyone about this." she hissed.

Percy smirked, "As long as you give me your number."

Annabeth took a deep breath and pulled a pen from her pocket. Don't ask why she had a pen. She grabbed his arm and wrote her number on his arm quickly.

"Don't tell anyone about that, either." and she darted off, gripping her books.

Annabeth inwardly groaned as she realized how risky that was. Giving the new kid her number, unsure if she could even trust him? What if he somehow got to her secrets and... extracted them like an evil scientist from those movies, or whatever?

Annabeth snorted, and the whole class turned to look at her. She resisted the urge to blush and put on a determined face, "Something wrong, brats?"

A couple people shook their heads and the teacher shot her a disappointed look. Annabeth bit her lip and turned back to her test. Her final. Annabeth blew out through her lips, pushing a strand of blonde hair out of her face.

Within the hour, Annabeth had finished her test. She had tried to be casual about it, but she guessed that she couldn't necessarily lie about being smart. It was hard to hide it if you were seemingly as smart as a daughter of Athena.

Annabeth scoffed at the thought and strutted to her locker, winking at some of the guys, torturing herself further. She kicked the bottom of her locker and the door swung open.

Somebody leaned against the locker next to hers. Annabeth sighed and looked over to see Percy grinning.

"What?" she asked irritably.

"Whatcha doin'?" he asked, probably being purposely annoying.

Annabeth shook her head and turned back to her locker. "No response?" Percy grumbled.

Annabeth glared at him, "You're not my typical company, peasant."

Percy smirked, "So I'm a peasant now?"

Annabeth whipped around to look at him, but an amused look was on his face, completely taking away all of her anger.

"Listen, kid-"

"I'll bet you... twenty dollars I'm older than you."

Annabeth snorted, "How old are you?"

"Seventeen."

"When's your birthday?"

"August eighteenth."

"I'm older."

"You're only saying that to win."

"Am I?"

"Yeah, when's your birthday?"

"July twelfth." Annabeth smirked.

Percy's smile dropped, "Gimme a sec." he said as he rummaged his pockets for cash.

Annabeth smirked and leaned against her locker door. Percy tossed her a bundle of cash. She stared at it blankly.

"Where the hell did you get this?" she asked in disbelief.

"Annie, dear, that's just twenty ones." Percy winked at her before walking off.

Percy Jackson was going to cause her death.

Maybe
