Thinner
AUTHOR: Stephen King
YEAR OF RELEASE: 1984
MY RATING: 5/10
BLURB:
'Thinner' - the old gypsy man barely whispers the word. Billy feels the touch of a withered hand, gentle on his cheek.
Billy Halleck, prosperous if overweight citizen, happily married, shudders then turns angrily away. The old woman's death has been none of his fault. The courts have cleared him. She just stumbled in front of his car. Now he simply wants to forget the whole messy business.
Later, when the scales tell him he is losing weight, it is just what the doctor ordered. His wife is pleased - as she should be. But...
'Thinner' - the word, the old man's curse, has lodged in his mind like a fattening worm, eating at his flesh, at his reason. And with this despair, comes violence.
MY DESCRIPTION: Billy is an obese, upper-class lawyer who accidentally hits and kills a gypsy woman while his wife is.. distracting him.. in the car. He is cursed by this woman's father, leading him to lose weight to a point where it just won't stop. Billy then sets out to find the gypsies and end the curse, which only results in a horrifying conclusion to the book. It was very slow-paced and I was bored at times, but the parts where it sped up were so thrilling that it was an overall easy read.
