━ synopsis!
⋆౨ৎ˚⟡˖ ࣪

ALIYA LEVINE, twenty-seven-year-old daughter of renowned surgeons Molly and Travis Levine, spent her whole entire childhood being told that becoming a doctor was her only option.

Whilst most kids her age were drawing on the sidewalk with brightly coloured chalk, cracking their knees open from riding their bikes, having triple chocolate ice cream sundae's at the pier, Aliya was made to attend gatherings with people who turned their noses up at it all. Who didn't have the slightest care what anyone else had to say. The kind of people that only cared about whether they were the smartest, most accomplished people in the room.

She listened to surgeons talk about their clinical trials and their awards in scratchy, yet expensive dresses that felt like cages. And, she laughed at them when they excused themselves from her jokes and segues onto topics they didn't remotely care about.

Though despite her reluctance to study medicine purely just to spite her own mother — who seemed to have made it her life's mission to make her youngest daughter's life a living hell — surgery came naturally to her. It was as if her hands were simply made to hold a scalpel, that fit into her grip like a missing piece of the puzzle that scripted her whole life out for her.

And, how could surgery not come naturally to her? From the moment she was born she ate, slept and breathed everything to do with the medical field.

From learning complex surgical stitches until her hands bled when she was in middle school, to graduating top of her class at med school, Aliya's entire life was surgery. She had no time to possibly think about, or do, anything else.

Because, if she breathed for even one second instead of making herself become a better surgeon, her mother would be at her door to remind her she had a legacy on her shoulders, like all mother's do.

The bottom line was that Aliya was born to be a surgeon.

Correction, she was bred to be one.

With two older siblings who chose careers the furthest away from a phd, she was expected to fulfil the so called family legacy by becoming a doctor herself. The spotlight turned to her, and she was expected to play her part flawlessly.

Besides, the name Levine was known amongst the greats after all, including names like Grey or Avery. They funded clinical trials across the country, won numerous awards, were the headline in news articles in major medical papers across the country, they invested in hospitals.

They were a surgical dynasty.

And in the Levine family, one thing was for certain, and that was that failure was never an option. It wasn't even a last resort.

So, after letting go of what she wanted for her own future a long time ago, she moved across the country to Columbia University in New York from her home in Los Angeles to study medicine.

As she finished her programme with an ex-fiancé, a very old hamster (who never get off of his damn wheel at one o'clock in the morning) and a red mini cooper, she moved (another correction, fled) to Seattle to begin her intern year at Seattle Grace Hospital — with five other interns in her class who were just as (un)prepared as her.

That was three years ago.

Now, Aliya was in her third year of residency, following the death of her fellow resident George O'Malley and her third boy-induced heartbreak to date.

And it just so happened her hospital was merging with another, which could only end in disaster.

❧AHHH HELLO AGAIN!!!! you may or may not have noticed if you've read scrub caps before but, i drafted all of the chapters because i wanted to edit them completely. i first published this story in july 2020 (and it's now march 2022) so i thought it desperately needed a rewrite — my writing two years ago physically makes me cringe and i can't cope with that let alone letting other people read the monstrosity i thought was good (cause i am dramatic — taylor alison swift)
❧also that means when i edit chapters (during the rewrite, and when i look for spelling mistakes a few months after writing them) most of the original comments/reactions move from where they are originally placed so i'm so sorry about that!!

❧that being said, most (basically all) of the chapters are based on the tv show grey's anatomy so go watch it (because it's the best and i don't make the rules)
❧the only characters i created myself are aliya levine, her family (unfortunately her mother who you'll learn to hate), aliya's outside of the hospital friends (the iconic mae park & summer vasquez) and some of the patients. oh and two of aliya's ex-boyfriends because we live for drama here
