Thoughts:

I... was ready to drop this book after the first paragraph. But of course, I do my best to give all books a fair shot, so I read the first chapter. Then the next.

I called it quits after chapter three.

This does... all the things I loathe in teen fiction. Some have role reversals, such as the "player" being a woman, but on the whole there's nothing new here or anything entertaining or original or like... vaguely interesting?

Paxton is an obnoxious cunt. I don't say that lightly. She's annoying and bratty and self-absorbed and cocky and a fucking idiot. There's some hints of some ~dark past~ and how she's like this because her parents are dead and I don't? fucking care. I just don't fucking care. I do not care for her stupid kindergarten bets and her friends and how she takes advantage of people like this. 

And, for the record, I hate all of these qualities in men players, too. I hate all "player" stories. Sue me.

To add to all of this annoyance, both Paxton and her best friend go on irritating, self-righteous rants to the boys they fuck over. Yes, the boys deserve it but it's?? annoying. You're not writing an acceptance speech, you're not doing anything but being a power fantasy. And hey, power fantasies can be fun!

But uh... this power fantasy is not. 

On top of that, the plot itself is convoluted and all it shows is how self-centered and destructive Paxton is. At least her playing other players can be at least mildly justified. Her taking advantage of a man who hasn't done anything to her and breaking his heart at the end. If she doesn't fall in love with him first, and I already know she will because that's how all of these books work. Can you believe we're supposed to hope Paxton succeeds?

And please, do not get me started on the "unknown POV" sections. Or all the unrealistic high school dynamics crammed into these first three chapters. 

I think this book made me angrier than the erotic elf one did.
