Reflections
Title: Reflections
Author: ToastiestGhost
Genre: Horror
Quick Summary: Might be scary if it wasn't so shallow.
Thoughts:
This is... something. The problem is that something lacks substance. A lot of it. The plot is there, it could work as a short story, but the most major problem is we have a husk of a story on our hands. Everything is told to us, and there is barely any room to explore any of it, which means any impact this book could have had is immediately destroyed. The relationship between the MC and his wife, the revelation on the subway, the ending scene... none of it means anything because we are rushed through it all and not given the time or tools to adequately care for any of it. Which is disappointing, but is not unfixable.
Slow down. Flesh out each and every scene. Delve into the motives of the MC's reflection. Where does it come from? What makes it homicidal? Why should we care about any of this? Give us time to live and breathe this setting, so by the time we get to the end, we not only care, we feel for what happens.
This book was so short that I honestly don't have anything else to say on it.
