[pre season 1]

Serena still couldn't exactly wrap her head around what happened earlier that afternoon. Everything had just happened so fast that she didn't have time to take anything in. For example, that there were vampires. Yep, you heard that right, vampires just casually roaming the halls of Whitechapel, biting whomever they please. Not caring about the consequences of their actions. Now Aaliyah was one of them or at least kind of. What did Benny end up calling her, a fledgling?

She knew exactly whose fault it was. Erica Jones. She had ruined her friend's life, and that was all that Serena could think about for the better part of three hours. And then she would have to see her and the rest of their group as soon as she walked into the chemistry classroom.

"You worried that someone is going to jump out from the other side of the door and bite you?" Aaliyah asked noticing her friend's hesitation to enter the room.

"I feel like that is a very real thing to be worried about since it actually happened a few hours ago," Serena hissed nervously moving her small silver ring up and down her finger.

Aaliyah shrugged, "I don't think they would bite you, seems like a little counterproductive since they want to find out what you are," she said.

Serena blinked at her, "How come I'm more freaked out about this than you are?" she asked, her voice a little uneven.

"Oh, I'm freaking out," Aaliyah answered honestly. "I'm just good at hiding it. You just have to have confidence, Serena."

"I have confidence," Serena said definitively. "I am confident that I am going to kick all of their asses," she said pushing the door open and striding through the doors.

Aaliyah smiled follow her friend into the classroom, "That's my girl," she whispered quietly.

Serena didn't give a second glance to anyone in the room and just sat down at the lab station in the front of the room. Her goal was to put as much distance between her and the rest of the people in the room, well besides Aaliyah who sat down next to her. "You planning on speaking to any of them, or are you just gonna kick their asses unprovoked?" she whispered in Serena's ear.

"Not if I can help it, no," Serena responded just as quietly. "There are going to give me some dumb explanation and spew some crazy nonsense that I have a magic voice or something like that. And I don't want to hear it, because I know what I am, and that is human. And it wouldn't be unprovoked because Erica bit you."

Aaliyah shrugged, looking at her friend sideways, "Fair enough," she said.

Serena watched silently as Mrs. Garica walked to the front of the room, "I would say I'm happy to see you all here, but I would be lying," she said honestly, which shocked both Aaliyah and Serena. The teacher had never spoken out of turn like that, Serena suspected it was because the group managed to break about $500 worth of lab equipment which would probably be very hard for the school to procure again.

"If you guys thought this was going to be a time where you could do homework and talk amongst yourself, you would be wrong," Garcia continued, a sour look on her face. "You all will seat here, silently and clean out the remaining lab equipment that you didn't end up destroying. Once you are done with that. I will decide if your work is satisfactory enough for you to leave."

Aaliyah and Serena exchanged nervous glances, it wasn't like Mrs. Garcia to be so angry at them, but maybe it was the presence of the other four that made her so uptight. Or it was the fact that she was overseeing their detention, which Serena had never been in before. Either way, the afternoon was not going to be a walk in the park.

Mrs. Garcia placed a bin full of different chemical equipment on her and Aaliyah's table. Once she turned her back on the pair Aaliyah whispered in Serena's ear, "Why is she in such a sour mood?" she spoke. "You would think she would be a little bit chipper, but no. It's like someone put a tack on her chair, and then she sat on it, and after that, she got a call in the hospital that her cat died or something. Then instead of hosting a funeral for her dead cat, she had to come here and oversee this detention."

Serena blinked, trying to process whatever Aaliyah had just said. "Or maybe she's upset because we broke a bunch of her lab equipment."

"Not we, you," Aaliyah whispered correcting her.

"Are we still on that?" Serena asked her a little louder than she should've because Mrs. Garcia whipped around at the sound of their voices.

She furrowed her eyebrows, rustling over to the girls, "Girls, what was the first rule that I said?" She asked, tapping her foot angrily.

The two didn't respond, out of fear of angering their teacher more, "Oh that's right," she said flashing the fakest smile Serena had ever seen. "No talking, now get to work," Garcia said pointing at the pile of equipment in front of them.

Serena grabbed a test tube out of the bin and started scrubbing it aggressively, picking up the pink towel next to her. The sooner she and Aaliyah could finish the pile of tools in front of them, the sooner Serena could go more and try and comprehend what was going on. What was happening to her, what a fledgling was, and more importantly, what to do about the newfound attention she's been getting from the four people in the back of the classroom.

She glanced over her shoulder and sure enough, the four were staring at her intensely. Serena shot them a weird look and turned back to the glass in her tube in her hand. She took the cleaner from the desk and sprayed along the inside on the tube.

Aaliyah sniffed and then covered her nose quickly. She looked like she was going to throw up. "Ugh," she said so that only Serena could hear her. "That smells disgusting, why is it so strong."

Serena didn't notice a particularly strong smell like Aaliyah did. She titled her head, "I don't smell anything," she replied quietly.

Aaliyah still had her hand over her nose, "Weird," she said in a muffled voice.

For the next hour, Serena continued to scrub away, taking each test tube, and cleaning it vigorously until she could see her reflection in it. She was very concentrated on getting her task done as being in the room was suffocating her.

The pile on the side of her desk was growing. It had gotten so big that Serena was scared that she would knock it over and break more equipment. There was a small whoosh in the back of the room. Serena tricked around in her still, but everyone was still where they were when she had seen them last.

Ethan gave her an awkward smile that she didn't return. Serena raised her eyebrow but turned back to the front of the room. They were one hundred percent planning something, but she had no idea what it was.

Serena shook her head quickly returning to the tasks in front of her. She picked up the pick rag once more and began to carefully scrub it. Not even two seconds later there was another loud whoosh followed by a huge crash outside of the door.

Mrs. Garcia peered over the newspaper she was reading and narrowed her eyes at the six students in front of her, trying to decipher which one of them had made the noises. Serena was honestly wondering the same thing because it obviously wasn't Aaliyah or herself.

"Mrs. Garcia, you gonna go check that out?" Benny asked loudly, trying to force her out of the room.

"Yeah, sounds like an urgent matter," Ethan chimed in, hearing another loud crash in the hallway.

Against her better judgment, Mrs. Garcia stood up and walked over to the doorway, looking out of the window and into the hallway. She turned back to her people in the room, "If any of you move one inch, I will make sure you are here for the rest of the night," she warned them, before turning on her heel and marching out of the room.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief once Garcia left the room. "Now hopefully Rory does his job," Benny said knowingly, keening his neck to see outside of the door.

Aaliyah turned around sharply when he said that, "His job?" she questioned. "What do you guys think you're doing?"

"Told you guys that they were gonna find out," Sarah said rolling her eyes. "You aren't that slick, you know."

Benny huffed in frustration, "Yeah but that doesn't matter. I think Rory got rid of her?"

"What?" Serena sputtered. "Please don't tell you got your friend to kill our chemistry teacher."

"If we had it my way we would've," Erica added picking at her nails. "But dumb and dumber over here wouldn't let me."

Ethan scoffed, "That's because you've already done enough harm being turning Aaliyah into a fledgling. And no Rory isn't going to kill her, he is just going to keep her busy so we can have a conversation."

Aaliyah stood up, "Yeah, I still don't know what that a fledgling is."

Sarah stood up too, "It's a vampire who hasn't drunk human blood yet. Like me, I can prove it," she said slowly looking at Aaliyah's very skeptical face. "Punch Benny," she said seriously.

"What, why me?" Benny said throwing his hands up in the air.

"Cause you're the most annoying?" Serena suggested.

Benny frowned at her, "Ha, ha very funny."

"Just punch him, Aaliyah," Sarah said frustrated.

Aaliyah didn't hesitate to dock Benny straight in the face, causing flying three feet backward and onto the floor, peeling over from the pain of her blow. "Ow, I think she broke my nose," he complained.

Aaliyah looked down at her hand and smiled, 'Wicked," she whispered.

"Not wicked, my nose is broken," Benny said, his voice cracking.

Ethan picked his friend up from off of the floor, "Can't you just magically heal yourself."

"What," Serena said flatly. "Yeah, nice try magic doesn't exist."

Aaliyah shrugged, "I don't know Serena. I think with what we've seen today, anything is possible. So do I have fangs and stuff?" Aaliyah asked Sarah curiously.

"Yes you do," Erica chimed in, a little bored. "Are we gonna do what we came here for or am I free to leave?" she asked Ethan and Benny.

Benny waved off her comment, using his left hand to rummage through his backpack. "Yeah, yeah just give us a few seconds. I have to fix what she broke."

"Watch it, or I'll punch you again, and I have a feeling that I could break more than just your nose," Aaliyah said confidently.

Benny finally pulled out what he was looking for. It was a small old book that was tattered around the edges. He flipped through the pages quickly. From what Serena could see the pages were covered in black ink.

"So it that your little spellbook," Serena said sarcastically, snickering a little because of how ridiculous what she just said sounded.

"Yes," he answered seriously pointing to a line on his book. He waved his hand around and a stream of bright purple light shot out of his fingertips and onto his face. He tapped his nose lightly, "There, all fixed."

Serena's mouth shot open, "What just happened," she said backing into the wall, a little afraid of the people standing in front of her. "What just flew out of your hands. Now okay, now I must be dreaming. Aaliyah, you should break my nose now, just so I can't wake up from the terrible nightmare."

Erica walked over to her, and flashed her fangs for the second time that day, "Hate to break it to you, sweetheart," she said, a hint of laughter in her voice. "But this is very much real." She tapped her nose lightly, "but the real question is, what exactly are you?" she asked looking straight into her eyes.

Serena blinked, "What am I? I'm human?"

Sarah shook her head, "No human can break glass with the sound of their voice, a scream more specifically."

Serena shook her head, "No, no," she stuttered, trying to think of an excuse for what happened. "Because, in Harry Potter, right. In Harry Potter, the portrait to get into the common room could break a goblet with her own voice, because she just sang so beautifully. So you are wrong, there's nothing special about me. I'm just an amazing singer," she said sounding much more nervous than when she started talking.

"That wasn't a note that you hit," Erica said raising her eyebrow. "I heard it loud and clear, it was a scream, almost burst my eardrums, to be honest."

"Yeah, and in Harry Potter, she smashed the glass against the wall to break it, not with her voice," Ethan said like Serena was crazy for getting the answer wrong.

Serena rolled her eyes, "Well forgive me for not knowing the answer," she scoffed. "And if I knew what was going on with me, I would tell you guys. I don't want fangy here to bite me as she did with Aaliyah. So are we done with the interrogation, because I would really like to get out of here before Garica comes back and gives us detention for a month."

It looked like something had clicked in Benny's brain as Serena was speaking, "She might not know what's going on, but you know who might?" he asked turning to Ethan.

"No?" he responded carefully.

"My grandma," Benny answered looking very triumphant.
