CHAPTER TEN
LEAVING BRIARCLIFF
Eve bit her bottom lip anxiously, her leg bouncing up and down quickly, as nerves took over her body.
"Eve, you have to stop worrying about Kit, he'll be okay." Dean started, the man noticing Eve's panic.
Eve met his concerned gaze. "He won't, and you know it."
Dean sighed, the man placing a hand on her bouncing knee to comfort her. "I'm trying to be optimistic."
"That bastard's got him locked up in solitary in a straight jacket for hours on end, Dean, how can I not be worried?" Eve frowned. "He's only here for one hour a day, and then he's gone."
"It'll be over soon, okay?" Dean replied. "And besides, he's on his way now, just make the most of it."
Eve released a sigh at his words, the woman hesitantly nodding as she did so.
•
Eve, Dean, and Kit noticed Lana walking down the stairs, the tape and her patient file in her hand.
They knew they had to distract Thredson long enough for her to escape.
"We made Lana swear to us that she would never tell us where she hid the tape." Eve spoke up, catching Thredson's attention.
"So talk to her." Thredson responded as he began to walk away, Kit grabbing his arm before he could, catching his attention.
"She won't listen." Kit spoke simply.
"Trust us." Dean added.
"She's a very spirited girl." Thredson replied, his eyebrows furrowed. "If anyone can reach her, it's you three."
Lana successfully walked past the group, the woman closing her eyes in elation as she left the building.
"Okay." Kit nodded, dropping the subject, now that Lana was out. "I'll try."
An orderly tapped Kit's shoulder, the man nodding as he got the message.
•
"Mr Walker." The Monseigneur started as both him and Kit sat down at his desk, Kit now wearing donated clothes instead of scrubs. "I can't tell you how pleased I am that justice has finally been served, I'm only happy to have been a small part of that."
"This isn't justice." Kit scoffed as he brought the cigarette he was smoking to his lips, the man inhaling and exhaling cigarette smoke as he did so.
"I don't understand, you're a free man, what more could you want?" The Monseigneur furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"I want Eve and Dean out of here." Kit replied immediately. "They're innocent, and I won't let them rot in this hellhole."
"That's hardly possible, given that they are both confined here, and legally deemed insane." The Monseigneur responded, Kit's eyes narrowing as he glared at the man.
"You're gonna let them out." Kit spoke simply.
"I beg your pardon?" The Monseigneur furrowed his eyebrows.
"First, you're gonna deem Eve and Dean sane. Then, you're gonna get rid of their files for good. And finally, you're gonna let them out of this place. If you do that, we'll never bother you again. All of us." Kit explained, the man holding the Monseigneur's gaze as he continued. "Otherwise, I might have to start talkin' to those reporters. And believe me, I have a lot of stories."
The Monseigneur nodded slowly. "I bet you do."
He took a sip of his whiskey, the man continuing after he did so. "Be reasonable, you can't seriously expect me to release a murderous, knife-wielding psychopath, and a homosexual back into the community."
"I'm not askin' you to." Kit replied simply, the man trying to conceal his rage at the Monseigneur's false claim about Eve and homophobia towards Dean. "I'm tellin' you to release two innocent human beings that deserve the second chance they never got."
He shrugged as he took a puff of his cigarette. "Unless you wanna be the talk of the town."
The Monseigneur glared at Kit, Kit continuing at the look. "You can make all your problems go away, father. Nobody ever needs to know."
•
"Eve Brooks and Dean Evans, sign here and here. And here are some donated clothes." A guard approached Eve and Dean, the two frowning as the guard handed them release forms, along with clothes that were donated to the asylum.
"Release forms?" Eve questioned confusedly.
"What's going on?" Dean asked as he glanced at the guard with furrowed brows.
"The Monseigneur has deemed you both sane, you're free to go. Walker's waitin' for you at the front." The guard responded, Eve and Dean sharing elated glances as they signed the release forms.
They walked towards the bathrooms, both of them quickly getting changed in different stalls and making their way out to the entrance of Briarcliff, where a grinning Kit stood.
Eve and Dean ran up to him, Eve laughing as Kit hugged her tightly.
"We're really getting outta here?" Eve grinned as the two pulled away, Kit nodding, a smile appearing on his face at her happiness.
Kit hugged Dean, Dean laughing as the two pulled away. "Thanks, man."
"Of course. I told you we'd get outta here." Kit responded, his hand resting on Eve's lower back. "Now, let's go, there's a cab waitin' to take us to my place."
Eve nodded, the woman then glancing at Kit as the trio began to walk towards the cab. "Can we stop at my place first? Just to get a few things?"
Kit nodded at the woman, Dean speaking up and catching their attention. "Uh, actually, I was thinking of heading back to my place. But I'll stop by soon, okay?"
Kit and Eve nodded, Kit speaking up as he caught Dean's attention. "I'll give you my address, come by anytime you want."
Dean nodded, Eve engulfing him into a tight hug, the man wrapping his arms around her waist as he hugged her back. "Thanks for everything, Dean. I wouldn't have made it this far without you."
Dean grinned as he squeezed her waist. "Same goes for you, Eve."
As the two pulled away, they sent each other smiles, Dean glancing between Kit and Eve as he spoke up. "Don't forget about me while you're off in paradise, okay?"
Laughing at his words, Kit and Eve shook their heads, Kit patting his shoulder as he replied. "We could never forget about you."
Dean smiled, Kit and Eve holding hands as they made their way to the cab, both of them waving at Dean as the cab drove off.
•
"Wait, let me get the door." Kit began as the driver stopped the cab, the man getting out of the front seat and opening Eve's door for her, the woman sending Kit an appreciative grin as she got out of the car, two suitcases filled with her clothes and other important things in both hands.
"Here, I'll take 'em." Kit added as he tried taking the suitcases from Eve's hands, Eve moving away slightly as she shook her head.
"I've got them, it's okay." Eve responded, the woman sending Kit a small smile as she continued. "But thank you, anyway."
"At least let me take one." Kit scoffed, Eve sighing as she handed him the lighter suitcase. Kit huffed a chuckle as he added. "The heavier one, Eve."
"Oh, just shut up and take it." Eve scoffed, Kit laughing as he nodded.
"Fine, fine."
After a moment, Eve glanced at Kit's house. "This is yours?"
Kit smiled as he exhaled a breath. "Home sweet home."
Eve grinned as Kit glanced at her, the man beginning to walk up to the door of his house. "Come on."
Nodding, Eve followed him, the cab driver starting the car and leaving.
Kit moved the mat and grabbed the spare key, the man smirking as he showed Eve. "Still there."
"This is beautiful, Kit." Eve admired the view from the front door, Kit smiling as he nodded, the man fumbling with the lock on the front door.
After a moment, he unlocked the door, the man opening it to reveal his completely trashed house.
"I never got a chance to clean it up." Kit started with a sigh. "I'm sorry."
"No, don't apologise." Eve furrowed her eyebrows. "We can do it together. It's a great house, and it's perfect for us."
"It's perfect for us." A grin appeared on Kit's face at her words, the man leaning in and connecting their lips into a soft kiss.

AUTHOR'S NOTE
sorry if this chapter is boring and short, I honestly couldn't write eve and dean into it properly, so I apologise.
also don't be surprised if the next two chapters are short and boring too, due to it focusing on the characters' lives after briarcliff, so i'll try my best to make them entertaining, but no promises.
there'll be a few time jumps, so i'm just warning y'all before you start commenting about it lmao.
