Chapter 2

The Next Day

It was a mostly quiet morning inside the Johnson house, as Maxis and Tyler were probably asleep in their rooms, while Kyle was sitting in the living room, on the couch, with his girlfriend, Shannon Cipher, who had spent the night after drinking.

The lovely couple were watching some random show on TV, at least they were before someone hurriedly came into the living room. That person was Kyle's sister, Maxis.

Without saying a word, Maxis quickly scanned the room and found what she was looking for. The television remote. She quickly snatched it up and changed the channel.

Obviously, it didn't go unnoticed by the other two in the room, which was evident by Kyle scoffing and muttering a few incoherent noises before actually saying anything.

"Hey Gremlin! We were watching that!" Kyle protested.

Maxis waved him off, "shut up and look." She responded, motioning to the TV.

Kyle and Shannon's attention went back to the TV, seeing that Maxis had changed the channel to the news and soon enough, they realized why.

On the TV there was a News Reporter  and the three noticed that the Reporter was standing in front of Evan's house they also notice that, at the bottom of the tv screen there was text that read "Reported Body inside the Fong's Residence".

The three would sit there in shock, being left speechless at what had just been shown on TV. After a few moments, Kyle would speak up.

"That's fucked up because i just talked with Evan last night on the phone." Kyle said as he sat there, not sure what to think of the news that he and the others just heard.

As they sat there, Maxis noticed that her phone was ringing and saw that it is was from the police station. She got the feeling that it was the Chief calling her.

Taking a few seconds to leave the room, Maxis finally answered her phone. After a few minutes, Maxis walked back into the living room, noticing that both Kyle and Shannon had watched her walk back in.

"Just the chief." Maxis explained, "they're having me work on this case." She added, pointing to the TV, which was still reporting Evan's death.

"Kinda lucky?" Kyle said, "in some kind of twisted way..." He added, watching the other two look at him, "I mean, I couldn't think of a better person to help investigate and maybe even solve Evan's possible murder than one of his friends..."

Maxis nodded, "oh yeah, the chief also said that you need to come to the station." She said, pointing to her brother.

"What? Why?!" Kyle asked, being both confused and a little nervous.

Maxis shrugged, "He didn't give me a chance to ask..."

"I'm sure it's nothing!" Shannon said, rubbing the backs of her boyfriend's hands to calm his nerves.

Maxis nodded in agreement, "if I had to guess, it's probably just some simple questioning, since that's what we do with everyone else who knows someone that's been killed."

"Well, i better get myself ready." Kyle said as he goes upstairs to change, before coming back down and getting ready to leave with Maxis.

***

Kyle pulls the 4Runner into a parking space at the police station. The two siblings would then walk into the station, where Maxis would take her brother to one of the interrogation rooms, since that was the usual thing to do.

"I'm going to go tell the others that you are here." Maxis said, as she left the room closing the door behind her.

Kyle sat down in a chair and sighed as he waited for someone to come back to talk to him. A couple minutes had passd and Kyle now heard the sounds of footsteps approaching the door, the footsteps were followed by a knock on the door, and then the door was soon being opened by someone.

Looking at the person who had just entered the room, Kyle saw a guy and they had dirty blonde hair and brown eyes. He watched as they came over to him and took a seat across from him at the table in the room.

"I'm Detective John Keyes, i have been assigned to Evan Fong's death and would like to ask a few questions if that's okay?" John said while looking at Kyle.

Kyle nodded, "ask away." He said, "although, I'm surprised you guys don't have my sister, Maxis, questioning me."

John chuckled softly, "The others thought it might be a conflict of interest." He explained.

Kyle nodded and smiled as he watched the detective open up a notepad and click their pen, getting ready to write down whatever he said.

"So, the team went through Evan Fongs' phone and saw that you had called him around midnight." John stated, looking at Kyle, "what was the purpose of that call?"

"Well..." Kyle started, "it was to make sure that he had gotten into his house safely and wasn't passed out in his driveway or something like that."

John nodded, "why would he be passed out in his driveway, or something like that?'

"We had been out drinking, during the night." Kyle explained.

Once again, John nodded and began to write some stuff down, "We?" he asked.

Kyle nodded back, "Evan, myself, my girlfriend Shannon, my sister Maxis and our older brother, Tyler..."

John wrote some more, "what was your relationship like with Evan? Friends? Acquaintances?"

"Friends." Kyle responded and nodded afterwards, "I had seen him around Blackwood's College campus and Blackwood's hockey games but didn't talk to him until our last year there."

Detective John Keyes continued to write some stuff down, "now you, Evan and a couple of others were involved in the second Ghostface murder sprees a couple years ago, with a couple of you even being involved in the first, is that correct?" He asked.

That question made Kyle's breath hitch for a moment as it had been a couple years since the mentioned attacks, but he eventually nodded, "t... that's right..." he said, "you don't think that Evan's death is connected to that, is it?"

John set his pen down and looked towards the other male, "obviously as a detective, I can't rule it out." He explained, watching Kyle's expression, "but, to me, the odds of it being related to the past is very little." He added.

Kyle nodded listening to Detective John. After that, The Detective would get up from his seat and look at Kyle.

"Well, that is all the questions i have for you. Kyle, you are free to leave to go now." John said.

"Thank you, Detective Keyes." Kyle said with a nod.

Having left the interrogation room, Kyle would now walk through the rest of the police station, before coming to a stop at his sister's desk.

Maxis would stop what she was doing and look up at her brother, raising a brow, "so, how did it go?" She asked afterwards.

"They're locking me up." Kyle said.

"Oh no..." Maxis sarcastically, yet dramatically said, "how will I ever tell your soon-to-be wife, Shannon?" She giggled.

Kyle's eyes widened, "What? How did you know?" He asked.

Maxis giggled softly, "I'm working to become a detective, you idiot. Plus, I may have seen the ring you picked out for her."

"That ring was in my dresser..." Kyle responded, "you went through my shit? You little turd..."

Maxis cackled, "Had to practice my investigation skills for when I become a real detective and not a rookie officer."

"Unbelievable." Kyle muttered, "well, what do you think of it?" he asked, changing the subject to be about the ring he purchased.

Maxis smiled, "She's going to love it." She responded, "do you know how or when you'll ask?"

Kyle shook his head, "Not yet."

Maxis nodded, "well, your secret is safe with me."

Kyle nodded back and smiled, "Alright, I'm gonna go. I'll be back to pick you up tonight Gremlin."

Maxis nodded, although she huffed at the usual nickname from her brother. After that, the two siblings parted ways to go about their days.
