Maxis was frantically looking between her phone, the car's clock and then the road, trying to get to the house as fast as she could. As she drove, she kept thinking back to the very first Ghostface attacks and how her brother was one of the people that was attacked, twice at that. She was lucky enough to make it the first time, she just hoped that she could do the same this time.

Once Maxis arrived at the house, she immediately threw her car into park and grabbed her gun. Getting out, she made a rush towards the front door, which was hanging wide open.

Getting to the door, Maxis cautiously approached the doorframe and entered the house, having her gun drawn. Once inside, she called out...

"Kyle?!" followed by, "Shannon?!" and ending with a muttered "Ghostface?"

Having not gotten any response, Maxis made her way up the stairs first, just in case Kyle was either hiding or fighting somewhere up there.

***

Maxis swept through all of the rooms upstairs, not finding anyone or really anything, besides her brother's phone, which had notifications of the recent missed calls.

Heading back down the steps, Maxis stopped on the first step. Her attention was drawn to some red droplets on the floor. As she got closer to observe them, Maxis noticed that the droplets were forming a little trail and that trail was leading towards the back door.

Following the trail, Maxis saw that the back door was already open. Her eyes widened and she let out a gasp as she got to the door, she could already see what was on the back porch. Immediately racing outside, Maxis slid her gun in it's holster.

"Kyle..." She muttered, finally getting to her brother's body.

Maxis felt tears starting to form in her eyes as she crouched down, examining his blood covered shirt and the multiple stab wounds in his back. She would then gently roll him over, seeing the other stab wounds in his gut, chest and neck/throat.

Even though it was probably pointless, Maxis began to administer CPR/chest compressions. It started at the typical 100 beats per minute, but soon jumped to 250-300 beats per minute, as it started to become to her that it was too late and that Kyle had bled out and wasn't coming back.

Stopping her compressions, Maxis began to break down and started to mutter sob-filled apologies to her brother's body.

Maxis tried to stifle her cries as she called for an emergency crew and everything else. Once that was done, Maxis went and sat down on the front porch steps, where she'd rest her head in her hands and continue her sobbing and breakdown. She also realized that she would have to be the one to tell Shannon, whenever she came back.

***

When Shannon got home, she could immediately sense that something was wrong, given the fact that there were some emergency crew members there, while Maxis was seated on the porch and looked miserable. Just as Shannon was being told about what happened, the paramedics carried the stretcher that had Kyle's body on it, albeit covered with a sheet.

That was, really, the final straw as the red headed female sunk to her knees, unable to control her grief. Maxis sunk to her level and engulfed her in a tight hug, beginning to break out into a few tears again.

A few weeks later...

Some time had passed since Kyle's death and it really hit everyone who knew him, especially his wife Shannon, and his sister Maxis. Those two were obviously impacted more than anyone else.

Maxis began to bury herself in her work. She hadn't been back at the house since that first week, spending every night at the station. She just had to crack the case.

Even though Maxis remained at the station, she did ask the police chief to send a little protection crew out to Shannon's house, just in case Ghostface came back. The chief agreed, although it wasn't much of a crew, it was just two officers who stood on guard, but it was better than nothing.

At the current moment, Maxis was at her desk, which had papers sloppily thrown all about, her office in general was messy. Anyway, Maxis was reading over something she had hastily written, until there was a knock at her door.

The door opened and behind it was her detective partner, Joshua. He had a brown paper bag and a drink from Five Guys. He'd enter her office, just to set the items on the one clean spot on her desk.

"You know, you should really go home and get some rest Johnson..." Joshua spoke, breaking the silence, "You can't keep pushing yourself this hard..." He continued, obviously referring to how little sleep she was getting at the station, "It's not what he would want..." He added.

Maxis knew better than to argue back, as it wouldn't get anywhere, so she just nodded. Plus, she knew that he was right, she really did need the sleep and that her brother wouldn't approve of her working herself like she was.

"Well, I'll get out of your hair and leave you to it then... Have a good night." Joshua said while giving a small smile before leaving the station for the night.

After they left, Maxis got up and closed the door before opening the bag of food that Joshua had gotten her. Sitting back down at her desk, she began to slowly eat her burger while looking over all of her notes and other scribbles, sighing.

***

Sometime into the night, Maxis had fallen asleep at her desk, like she had been for the last few weeks. She would've remained asleep too, if it wasn't for her phone vibrating on the desk, causing her to wake up.

Groaning as she rubbed her eyes, Maxis squinted at the Caller ID, noticing that it was a call from Shannon. There was a few moments of hesitation, as the two of them hadn't spoken since the week after Kyle's death. There wasn't any bad blood between them, it was more due to Maxis blaming herself for her brother's death and trying to isolate herself because of it.

Taking a deep breath, Maxis finally swiped over to accept the call. Clearing her groggy throat, she spoke, "Shannon?"

Whatever was being said, it caused Maxis to fully wake up and sit straight up in her chair.

"Wait... Aren't the officers there?" Maxis asked.

Apparently they weren't and after being told that, Maxis let out a frustrated sigh, "Lock your doors and hide somewhere, I'll be there soon." She instructed.

After the call was ended, Maxis slammed a fist on her desk, "Fuck." She muttered as she got up and grabbed her keys.

....
