< Chapter Eight >

This all felt like a repeat or Deja Vu for Maxis, as she was in her car and back on the road, heading to Shannon's house. When Shannon called her at the station, it was because she thought that Ghostface was outside of the house and the officers that were assigned to guard the house weren't there anymore.

As Maxis drove, she would make several calls for back up and emergency crews, not wanting a repeat of what happened with her brother.

Pulling into the driveway, Maxis stopped her car and hopped out with her gun.

Just as she got up the porch steps, Maxis heard a scream coming from inside the house. Wasting no time with the knob, Maxis kicked open the door. After the door was opened, she could see both Ghostface and Shannon, the two of them turning to look at Maxis in the doorway.

Shannon was whimpering in pain, as she had at least one or two stab wounds in her stomach. While Ghostface had their bloody knife poised in the air, ready to strike again.

Not missing a beat, Maxis repeatedly pulled the trigger on her pistol. When it was all said and done, she was out of bullets and Ghostface fled the scene without a scratch on them. To be fair, it was hard to hit a moving target, as Ghostface immediately ran towards the back door once the gun fire started.

Grumbling some curse words to herself, Maxis went to help Shannon out and tend to her wounds. She'd apply pressure to them, at least until she heard the emergency sirens approaching the house. That's when Maxis let the paramedics take over, while she went to go speak with some of the officers, including her detective partner, Joshua, who had come as well.

After answering some questions and giving some statements, Maxis turned her attention back to the ambulance and the paramedics that were loading Shannon up. As she got closer to the ambulance, Maxis took one final look back at the house. She furrowed her brows as she could've sworn that she saw Ghostface inside the house, again. However, just as she was about to go back and check, her attention was grabbed by one of the paramedics.

"Johnson, are you coming or not?"

That question snapped Maxis out of her thoughts, as she turned to the paramedic and nodded. She would be lead to the ambulance and hop into the back, to be with Shannon.

Arriving at the hospital, the paramedics took Shannon in to get her wounds cleaned and stitched up, while they had Maxis sit in the emergency room. As she sat in a chair, she'd text Evan, letting him know what happened. After getting a response from him, she would sit back and rub her own face with a sigh.

***

A little bit of time had passed and Maxis was finally able to check on Shannon. Evan would also come back with her, as he arrived at the hospital not too long after being informed by Maxis.

The two of them entered Shannon's room, who was greeting them both with a small smile. Maxis and Evan would grab two chairs and sit near the bed. It was the first time that these three had been in the same place since Kyle's death.

***

Having spent a good thirty minutes or so catching up, Shannon turned towards Evan, "Would you mind giving Maxis and I a few moments?"

Evan eyes widened a little bit and he nodded, "yeah, of course." He got up and exited the room, respecting what Shannon had asked.

As she watched Evan leave, Maxis felt her stomach drop and began to wonder what Shannon could've possibly wanted to talk to her about, especially without Evan being present.

Letting her nerves get the best of her, Maxis blurted out, "I'm sorry."

Shannon's face was one of confusion, she wasn't expecting an apology. "What for?" She asked.

Maxis took a deep breath, "For not getting there in time... To save him..."

Shannon took a deep breath after hearing that. She never blamed Maxis for Kyle's death, so it was still a little confusing,"Maxis, look at me." She replied while getting the other to look at her, "there's nothing to be sorry for. You did everything you could. The one who should be sorry is that Ghostface fucker."

Maxis nodded but continued to try and apologize. Shannon finally got her to shut that down and calm herself, especially after she followed up with...

"I really need to tell you something... Important..."

Finally feeling calm enough, Maxis nodded and motioned for her to continue.

"Well... I'm actually not quite sure how to say it... Uh..." Shannon started to fumble with her hands, "I'm..."

After noticing that she wasn't getting much more than that, Maxis watched as Shannon made some gestures around her stomach.

"Pregnant?" Maxis asked while raising a brow.

Shannon nodded as Maxis sighed and leaned back in her chair, running a hand through her long, blonde hair. She'd turn back to Shannon...

"Well, I guess that settles it? Ghostface has to fucking die."

....

A/N: It looks like Maxis isn't playing around anymore, she wants Ghostface dead! Let's see if she'll succeed, yeah? And Shannon is pregnant?! Ahhhhh, if only Kyle was still around to see it :''')... Anyway, I will see you in the next chapter! Stay safe and peace out!!
