(179) House Games

It seemed as though Fred and George's birthday celebration marked the end of relaxing days and the start of what seemed like a very very busy month. April faded out in to May, and it seemed like everyone had a whole lot of things to do.

Florence found herself doubling the hours she usually spent in the Ministry, as their training got longer and more tedious. She would come home in the middle of the night most days, stumbling to the bedroom and plopping beside Fred while still in her Auror uniform, with the redhead in mention fast asleep beside her also because a long and busy day. With the release of the Fizzing Whizzbees 2.0, more and more people flocked to the store. The business was flourishing, but was rather overwhelming for a company of 3 people. Fred and George had also spent quite a but of time stressing about whether or not it was time to hire another employee.

Nicolai and Xander were also busy with their respective careers, that their planned out lunch dates had been neglected for weeks. So when the three of them saw an opening to hang out, they jumped on it and decided on a simple lunch at the Ministry of Magic's cafeteria. It was no Madame Puddifoot's, but it worked. Despite the dreary looking gray walls, the trio still looked forward to seeing each other.

"I wonder how its like in Hogwarts without us there..." Nicolai said out loud, before shoving a forkful of pasta in to her mouth, Xander looking at her rather weirdly, "I'd assume things are still going the way they used to. Nothing really changes when a batch of students leave... I mean, based on our experiences at least."

"I know, I know. But like, at the same time, wasn't our batch something special? I mean, come on, Fred and George alone are iconic. Who's left to wreak havoc and destroy school property now that they're out of school? Where's the excitement?" Nicolai elaborated, before slumping back in her plastic chair, "I think its been a tad bit boring ever since our batch left."

"Well isn't that kid Harry Potter still around?" Hadley brought up, "I mean, with the Chosen one still in school I doubt it'll be anything close to a bore."

"Yeah, our batch wasn't anything special, Nic. Get over it." Xander chuckled, "If anything we were very ordinary..."

"Yeah? I beg to differ. I'd like to see em pull off Quidditch games like ours. Nearly all the good players from all houses were from our batch. Florence, Davies and Stretton for Ravenclaw... Fred, George, Angelina, Alicia Spinnet for Gryffindor, Olivia from Hufflepuff and well...er... Cedric... but that's a different story..."

"Nic..." Xander buried his face in his hand

"What? I had to include him, he was an excellent Quidditch player..."

"Talking about Quidditch, are we?" Florence said suddenly as she appeared seemingly out of nowhere, giving everyone else at the table a scare. She slid in to a seat, plopping her brown lunch bag on the table, as well as an opened letter.

"Merlin, since when have you been that light on your feet? We didn't even hear you coming." Nicolai said, still clutching her chest, making Florence chuckle, "Well Tonks said Phase two of Auror training is disguise and concealment... so I've been practicing ahead." She said, reaching in to her paper bag and pulling out a sandwich, and sighing, "Don't get me wrong, I love Fred to pieces but a girl can only take so much jelly sandwiches."

"Tell him to make something else," Hadley suggested.

"Its the only one he knows how to make," Florence said in a voice of defeat, unwrapping her sandwich. "Sorry I was a bit late, Jules called me up to his office cuz he needed some help looking for files. His office is a big mess, someone needs to take care of it fast..." she said, before taking her first bite.

Nicolai eyed the letter she had sitting on the table curiously, seeing the broken Ravenclaw wax seal and a rather familiar handwriting, "Say Flo, what do you have over there?"

"Oh! This..." she said through a mouthful of bread, holding up a finger to pause as she quickly chewed through it, before speaking again, "Its from Cho. She wants us to come see the Ravenclaw's last game for the year this coming Saturday." she said, picking up the letter and handing it to Nic, "I think it'd be great if we can go. She said she's invited Roger and Jer, even Duncan, Grant and Jason... it would be nice to see them again, you know, for old time's sake. Plus they're playing Gryffindor so the twins might come too."

"It sounds like fun, I'm down for it." Nicolai said in a heartbeat, before turning to Hadley, who she sensed was feeling sort of left out in the conversation, "If you're not too busy you can tag along too. I don't know how they played Quidditch in Beauxbatons, but Hogwarts Quidditch is pretty much legendary."

"We didn't really play a lot of Quidditch... so yes, that would be fun to watch. I'm in."

"What about you, Xan?"

"Well I'll have to clear out my whole morning but I'm definitely going. It would be nice to catch a glimpse of Hogwarts once more."

"Great, then its settled." Florence grinned, "I'll tell the twins the minute I get home."

Turns out Florence didn't have to tell the two anything, as they were already warming up their Gryffindor chants the minute she stepped in to the apartment. They had their crimson red and gold neckties tied around their head like bandanas, and were in their old Quidditch jumpers. They were sat on the couch with a bunch of paints opened and a large sheet of canvas sprawled out in front of them. "Looks like you two are going to the game too, huh?"

"'Course we are." Fred grinned, before going back to meticulously painting on the letter 'R' on the canvas, "Gin wrote to us about it, said its gonna be an interesting one." George said.

"She told us not to tell you but she says they're rather nervous about playing against Ravenclaw this time. Cho's whipped up the team in to shape... plus they're down a person cuz Katie was sent to St. Mungo's."

"That's terrible... did she say what for?"

"No, not really. But yeah, George and I will be closing down the store for that day... Its gonna be interesting seeing a Gryffindor game without playing in it."

"But... you two already have... when Umbridge banned you...?"

"That doesn't count." Fred dismissed quickly, "Gin and Ron are gonna be playing, so we're excited to see that..." he said, before eyeing his twin brother, "We're also gonna get to see a certain someone's girlfriend play...."

George turned bright red, before getting up from his seat and awkwardly marching to the kitchen, making Florence chuckle. "Fred, don't tease your brother."

"Sorry, darling."

                                            ——————

The day of the game came, and Florence felt nostalgic as ever wearing her Ravenclaw colors. She was to take the Floo network to Hogwarts with Xander, Nic and Hadley, as the twins had gone out to pick up Lee before they went. Using Floo to get to Hogwarts was also a very new experience, as it had taken them directly to Dumbledore's office, which Florence had only been in once or thrice.

Dumbledore greeted everyone happily, as there were also some parents who were coming in for the match. They were all ushered to a special stand for the visitors to occupy, which was slightly disappointing because Florence had thought that she was going to be able to sit amongst the Ravenclaws in their stand. From her seat she spotted Mr. and Mrs. Branson, who were inferably watching for Lisa. She glanced at George, who was three rows down, also looking at them. She then wondered if Lisa's parents knew of him, bur judging from the way they paid him no mind, it was likely that they didn't.

"Its starting!" Nicolai said excitedly, Florence smiling as she watched a familiar raven-haired girl walk out in silver and blue robes, a Comet 290 broom in her hands. There were some unfamiliar faces in the Ravenclaw team as well, they saw as they lined up in front of the Gryffindor team. She then heard Fred, George and Lee going ballistic at the sight of Ginny, Ron, and Lisa, looking sharp and professional in their own house colors. Harry was nowhere to be seen, which baffled Florence, as he was supposed to be this year's team captain.

Instead it was Ginny who went up to shake Cho's hand, a traditional sign of sportsmanship.

A few minutes later, the familiar whistle echoed through the stadium, and Florence felt her heart surge as the players shot up in to the air, along with the quaffle and the bludgers.

"It's just occurred to me that this is the first time I'm at a house game and not playing." Florence said, leaning closer to Xander, "Feels kinda odd."

"Cho looks marvelous, though. Do you reckon she's enjoying her captaincy?"

"What's not to enjoy? You get to boss people around, butt heads with the other team captains, and use the very exclusive Prefect's bathroom." Nicolai said, "I've heard wonders about that bathroom. Xander's used it, but he makes it sound so bland and boring." she said, whispering the last sentence to Hadley, making her chuckle. Xander frowned, "That's because its the truth! Honestly it was just a regular bathroom, I don't know why people are over-glorifying it."

"The person announcing the game is boring." Nicolai pointed out, "I liked it better when Lee was the one doing it..."

"Excuse me," a middle aged woman with blonde hair scoffed from the row in front of them, "That girl is my daughter, and she's doing her best."

"Oh, I'm sorry ma'am!" Nicolai said swiftly, the woman glaring at her once more before averting her attention back in to the game, "Geez, I hate the visitor's stand."

One of the new Chasers, Kristina Diaz, was able to successfully shoot the Quaffle through one of the hoops, only avoiding Ron's arms narrowly. The Ravenclaws cheered as the scoreboard changed, Cho circling back to give the chaser a high five.

The points volleyed back and forth between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, all the while Cho and Ginny were circling the pitch in search of the golden snitch. It was a very close game, Florence could tell that Cho had been working hard to shape up the team, and knew how difficult it was having to find a replacement for nearly half of the team. But it was paying off, she could tell, and the fact that Ravenclaw was playing finals against the Gryffindors meant that she had done an excellent job.

They felt a wave of nostalgia from every celebration and every loss of points. Even though it had barely been a year since they left, the three friends felt as though their Hogwarts days were so far behind them. Seeing another house game brought them back to their days as students, and it was a certain unexplainable feeling of joy.

"Oh—could it really be?" The young girl from the announcer stand gasped, her finger pointed to where Cho and Ginny were neck to neck, struggling to reach the golden ball that was desperately trying to zip its way out of their grasps, "Seekers Chang and Weasley, closing in on the snitch! With Ravenclaw only 20 points ahead from Gryffindor, oh, how thrilling!"

Florence felt herself subconsciously rise from her seat, clutching at her house scarf as she, along with everyone else in the crowd hyperfocused on the two seekers, Cho pushing her broom forward and reaching for the snitch.

Only for her to lose her balance and topple over her broom and falling six feet down in to the dewy stadium grass.

The red and gold cladded people erupted in to a series of shouts and cheers, Florence feeling her heart sink as she watched Cho pick herself up from the grass. "Merlin, I hate this part.." Nicolai groaned, "I hate losing. Its the worst feeling ever."

"It was a very good game, though." Hadley said genuinely, "I haven't had this much adrenaline from watching sports in awhile. Ravenclaw sure did put up a fight."

"Ha!" They heard someone say, the four of them looking to George who was pointing at Nicolai, "You owe me five galleons!"

Nicolai scoffed, "What a graceful winner you are"

The people from the visitors stand were allowed to come down a few minutes after the game, joining the festivities down on the stadium grass. George scanned the crowd in search of Lisa, the brightest smile illuminating his face as he saw her running towards him. He opened his arms wide as she barreled in to him, knocking him off his feet as they laughed.

Florence was able to spot Cho outside the lockers, taking off her dirty gear along with the rest of the team who looked gloomy and crestfallen. She smiled, clearing her throat to catch her attention, "I gotta say, that was a great game, Captain."

"Flo!" Cho exclaimed, "Merlin, I can't believe you came!" she smiled, pulling her in for a hug.

"I've missed you so much!" She said, burying her face in to Florence's brown hair, only to retract herself a minute after, a frown blooming on her face, "Don't think I've forgotten that you haven't been writing to me. What, just cuz you're a Ministry Auror now you're too good to write letters to Hogwarts?"

Florence chuckled, "You know its not like that. I've just been... incredibly busy..." she said, not exactly finding the right words to describe what her post-Hogwarts life has been so far, "But I promise I'll start writing to you when I can."

"I'll hold you to that." Cho warned, "Even Jer and Roger have been writing to me! I don't see why you've forgotten."

"I didn't forget about you! That's hardly possible!"

"Speaking of Jer and Roger," Cho said, "I think they're dating."

Florence raised her brows, "Well... I'm not really surprised. Just confused why it took them so long."

"Right?" Cho chuckled, "And they're living together too. They said they're here... but I haven't seen them yet. They'll be at the Commons party though. You're coming too, by the way." she added, Cho's eyes immediately noticing the slight shimmer on Florence's finger, "No way..." she said, after five seconds of staring intently at it, "Are you... and Fred...?"

Florence nodded, a small smile on her face as Cho screamed, startling everyone else, "See, this is why you should be writing to me! I don't get to hear these things as soon as they happen now!"

"I will start writing to you, I promise."

"Miss Chang! That was a lovely game!" They heard Nicolai call from a distance, Alexander and Hadley in tow, "Sorry we're late, I had to pay George and Jordan."

"You made two bets?" Florence asked, Nicolai nodding almost regretfully, "I had too much confidence that day..."

"Thank you Nicolai." Cho smiled, before looking at their group, "Join us at the common room, okay? There will be food and booze and happy times!" she exclaimed, "I just gotta go clean up."

"We'll see you there."
