Chapter 3 - The Past (Kaden POV)

Over six months I had been getting glimpses of where she was. Until I was able to figure it out, and make a phone call to a long time trusted friend. I did not tell him why exactly I would be coming his way especially when it was so out of character. Usually John my brilliant geneticist and long time confidant would come to me in the states, but this time I was going to him.

Where? The Common Wealth of Dominica.

Five years ago when we first started working together and he began looking for answers, we wanted to do so in small place where no one would suspect.

We decided that he should build his lab on this tiny island nation with less than 100,000 people in population as well as other reasons.

When I arrived to the Dominica I had already prepared for my arrival and purchased a small nearby island which John and the small pack he had quickly followed my instructions and set up for me.

Without so much as spending three hours on the island, I went to the mainland in search of the voice.

Met by John, I quickly let him know I wanted to do some sightseeing, up in the mountains. He didn't question me about anything but shrugged and left me to my own entertaining.

After hours of going at a human pace I was met with a strange little underground home. The land was partly elevated and rising but from above one would not know that there was a house in the mountains. There was a slight path but again from the sky above it would not be apparent thru the tropical forests.

One knock and the most beautiful woman came to answer the door.

She looked familiar. I thought I could place her face but I came to a blank.

"It's you," she said shocked, "You really came?" the last of her sentence sounding like a question while the first half was clearly a statement.

I had so much to ask this beauty standing in front of me, but most of all I wanted her in my arms. Her skin appeared soft and I wanted to know, using my own hands to find out if that was the case. She had soft hazel eyes, brown caramel skin and wild natural hair. I wondered briefly if she, her spirit, personality was as wild as her locks.

She dazzled me, so much that I forgot for a moment that she asked me a question.

I shook my head, "Yes, I came."

And I was given the most breathtaking smile in return. This woman that I didn't know had taken my breath away.

"What is your name beautiful?" I asked her.

"Elizabetta Phillips," she answered, voice clear and strong.

"I'm Kaden Romano," I said watching her reactions, I wanted to know if she recognized me, maybe that was why she had been calling me for over 9 months.

When I realized that I was coming here I did so for two reasons, one the most important was for the woman in my head. The second reason was so that I could start over as my other self. I would disappear from my family, but she would be the only person I told my secrets.

Looking behind me then focusing back on me she asked, "Will you please come in?" Chancing a look behind me I saw nothing that would cause concern. I knew that I hadn't been followed here and came in my human form, which took much longer than I would have liked it too.

Walking into her home as an architect, I had to say that this was very well designed. To the outside it may have looked small, but I'm sure there was some more room once you went further than I had. Yet still... there wasn't much in here...

"Why do you live so..." I drifted off not sure how to word my question because it seemed to be none of my business but I wanted to know this girl. Woman. She didn't seem to be afraid of me at all and to most people I screamed, 'BEWARE.' She turned to face me smirk in place.

"So poor?"

"So hidden?"

"Alone and all I previously mentioned?" she was blunt and honest. I liked that.

What I did not care for was her blatant disregard for her safety, I was a stranger and she just let me into her home, I knew that this shack offered no protection, this place was nothing more than an underground tree house.

Maybe I could convince her to move into my house, on my Island where I could really take care of her, keep her hidden as well. Was she calling me because she was in danger?

I could believe that considering she just let me -a stranger- into her home.

Yet she did not seem to be in any kind of danger, but this home wasn't the home of someone free and she had been begging me to find her.

I wanted to ask about this connection that I seemed to have with her; I knew that she wasn't my mate because mine had rejected me when I was 13 years old. When I hadn't stayed with my Pack, after age 20 I unlike most had an ability that made it easier to disappear than most. It wasn't my natural born gift just a side effect from the experiments.

"Would you like a cup of tea?" she asked sweetly once again getting me to release myself from my mind trance.

"Yes."

"You didn't answer my question?"

"The one you weren't able to complete?" she asked, her back turned to me.

I chuckled. "Why here?"

"Well, what vampire you know that will come and find me on an island, in the sun?" she asked, her accent thick, exotic and sexy.

"W-what?" I began to play dumb because coming here I did smell a trace of werewolf but I knew that Elizabetta was not a werewolf.

"You heard me?" she said turning around.

I opened my mouth to speak, only to close it right away again.

"What are you Elizabetta?" straight to the point but I kept my face neutral.

Stirring her tea, "werewolf Fae."

"Impossible," I said in astonishment.

"Fairies never stay in this realm, it's too dangerous for them to be here," I said remembering all the stories my grandfather would tell our pack. My old Pack.

"My mother was a Fairy Kaden, but my father was human."

"So why here? Where is your father?" I asked and using my heightened senses I could hear four other heartbeats in the shack. I mean home.

Her face fell, and I wanted to kick myself for being the cause of that.

"I'm sorry Etta, that's none of my business," I apologized.

"I live here with my brother and sister. My father... he died..." her answer not giving anything away.

"Are you hungry?" she questioned me, it was 9:20 and I had yet to eat dinner.

"What do you have?"

"Well I already fed the twins and put them to bed, so I just finished making fish and chips for myself."

"Yes, I could eat that."

As I watched her move about this kitchen I was amazed by her beauty and grace. She was precious. Normally I loved the silence but I wanted to hear her speak again.

"How old are you?" I started questioning her with something small she looked to be about no older than 19 maybe 25 at the oldest.

"I'm 22 years old. You?"

"I'm 25 years old," I answered but was really not concentrating.

"How long will you be staying?" she whispered and if I didn't know any better I'd say she sounded hopeful with a bit of sadness.

"For as long as you want me, you are the one that was calling me. Now that I've found you, I have nothing to return too." I said honestly.

"What if I want you forever?" she asked.

"Then forever you will have me."
