SCP 076-2 A True Challenge Remastered
(I didn't like how the last one panned out so I decided to do a newer, fresher version of it. Hope you enjoy)
Gloria never truly knew what anxiety was until she found herself with a Mobile Task Force unit waiting at a doorway for one of the most dangerous keter class SCPs to be contained. Granted, this isn't her first time in life or death situations during her time in the MTFs, but this was an entirely different thing all together. This man could kill every single one of them without so much as flinching. If they f*cked up, then this thing would start rampaging up on the surface.
Gloria took a deep breath, keeping a tight grip on her gun. Now wasn't the time to panic. All they needed to do is to kill him and get it over with for the time being. Maybe he wouldn't even get past the thousand bolts of electricity. Maybe she would just find herself stressing over nothing.
That little spark of hope died the minute the metal door in front of her began getting beat down from the other side. Everyone readied their weapons, mentally preparing themselves for a carnage. Soon, the door gave way, revealing the gruesome figure that was Able.
Everything about him was intimidating and menacing. He easily had at least a foot of height above Gloria. His eyes were dark and saw nothing but contempt for the guards around him. Able materialized a sword from seemingly thin air before lunging at the MTF unit.
Blood and gore quickly filled the room. The sound of gunfire barely blocked out the screams of pain of the agents. For a while, Able was enjoying himself. But after a while of cutting down his foes, he found himself bored. These idiots weren't giving him a challenge. They stayed alive long enough to shoot him with their little bullets, but then died so quickly and easily. It was only when there was about a quarter of them left did they actually take this to the extreme. Some of them had begun pulling out heavier artillery weapons and grenades.
Gloria was one of these people. She began trying to shoot the murderous SCP down. Though it was certainly more effective, Able was still going around killing what she had left of her teammates like it was nothing. She could feel her heart beat against her chest, she felt like she was going to drop dead from fear. She wouldn't show it, but she felt like she was on the verge of a panic attack. Nearly everyone she had known was dead. Some of them she had barely spoke to, others she would've considered friends. Now their bodies were laying on the cold tile floor flooded with blood.
Finally her weapon lost ammo and she threw it to the side. The damn piece of sh!t probably couldn't have killed him off anyways. Gloria looked at Able, who was about to kill off the last of the MTF group. He did looked heavily damaged, chunks of him were missing, hell, there was a whole hole in his chest. He was soaked with head to toe in blood, both from himself and from the agents who tried to take him down. Gloria didn't know why she did what she did next, maybe it was the adrenaline rush, or maybe a mixture of bravery and stupidity, but she couldn't let anybody else die.. Not while she was still breathing. She launched herself at the SCP, tackling onto his back, taking him down to the ground with her.
Able was stunned for a moment. Somebody had actually dared to attack him so directly? He couldn't decide whether or not he was impressed by this agent's bravery or ashamed of their lack of self preservation. He swung down his blade at the agent, who just barely rolled away in time.
"You, soldier. Have you finally come from the safety of your little guns to stop me from killing your pathetic friends?" He growled .
Gloria then pulled her pistol and starting shooting at him repeatedly. She saw out of the corner of her eye what remained of the MTF unit was calling in backup. She knew that she just had to survive long enough to allow reinforcements to finish this off. She found herself dodging most of time, just barely avoiding fatal injuries. Though she knew that she couldn't keep this up forever. She could start to feel the exhaustion start to take over.
Able took advantage of this, grabbing her by the arm and yanking her towards him. He promptly punched her in the face, breaking her visor/helmet and sending her flying across the blood covered floor. Her face was bleeding profusely from the shards of plastic impaled into her face from the shattered visor, her nose was broken, she probably had a concussion, and she was too afraid to move her jaw. It was dislocated, possibly even broken as well.
Able then pounced on top of her and swung his sword towards her forehead. She managed to catch the blade in between her hands just as it was about to pierce the flesh. She quickly moved his blade to the side before shooting for his head, though missing due to how much her hands shook. Able quickly took his blade and plunged it into her chest
Gloria had never let out a louder, more pain filled scream in her life before this moment. The scream was only cut off by her gurgling and coughing up blood. Able pulled the blade from her chest, slowly and all the while twisting it to make the wound worse.
"Pitiful.." Able growled "And to think I thought you'd actually give me a challenge.. I have to commend you, however, you gave more fight than your fellow soldiers. Now die! "
He raised his bloody sword for the killing blow when Gloria pulled out one of last remaining grenades and quickly shoved it into Able's open wound cavity on his chest. She only had enough time to shield her face with her arms before the grenade went off, killing Able in an explosively gruesome display of blood and organs.
Gloria's vision became to blur. She laid there, staring at the ceiling as the reinforcements soon rushed into the room. She could hear somebody call out
"SOMEONE GET THE MEDICS!"
That was when everything went dark.
She spent 4 weeks in intensive care before being put back out onto the field. Gloria wanted to be reassigned somewhere else, anywhere else that wasn't dealing with Able. The higher ups refused, stating that due to how active Able has become, they needed anyone available to take him on. Every couple of months or so, Able would resurrect, she would have to watch people she knew die at the hands of that monstrosity, somebody else or herself would kill him, she would ask to either be reassigned or quit, they would refuse, rinse and repeat. Until one day, she was invited into Task Force Omega 7, the Foundation's newest little experiment to use SCPs as weapons. She was going to reject it, but figured she was going to be forced into anyways so she went without a fight.
To call what they got to go through on a daily basis a suicide mission put it lightly. All of the most dangerous and deadliest missions were pushed onto them. Half the time Gloria wondered if she was already dead and she was just in a limbo like state or some sh!t. The only comfort she got from it was the comrades she made during her time there. Among them, there was SCP 105 aka Iris, who was a sweet girl, though she didn't see her too often as Iris led her own division in Omega 7 while Gloria was stuck with Able. Agent A'A was tolerable enough, Beatrix, she got along with Well enough. Able however, Gloria tried to avoid interactions with him whenever possible. Unfortunately that wasn't always possible.
Omega 7 was currently on a mission, something to do with the Chaos Insurgency and an large amount of anomalies and things of that nature. They had set out camp to regain their strength after a fight with a bunch of insurgency agents that went for the worse. Gloria couldn't sleep, it wasn't due to Agent AA's obnoxious snoring this time. She was deep in thought. How many more missions could she really do.. She had brushed with death time and time again before but now it seemed to loom over her everyday. Death itself didn't scare her, everyone eventually bites the dust, but the idea of dying on a bloody battle field, with the sound of guns and violence all around, being forgotten and disregarded as a causality.. That was got her.. Especially the idea of dying alone, with nobody to know or care about her existence.
She was so deep in thought that she didn't hear the already stealthy Able sneaking up behind her. She felt the sharp edge of a blade pressed softly against her neck.
"You should be more mindful of your surroundings. If I were an enemy, you would be dead." Able growled into her ear. Gloria shoved the sword away from her neck, standing up from her sitting position.
"Oh, like they would've gotten anywhere near me without somebody around us waking up?! Let alone sneak past you?" Gloria retorted back, glaring up at the tall, masculine Arabic/middle eastern man. His eyes narrowed at her.
"You are not yourself this night. What has your mind so occupied that you can't sleep for tomorrows mission?" Able said. Gloria planned on answer him with a sarcastic response or simply with silence. But for some reason, she had to let it out. This may be her last night alive, she may as well speak her mind.
"I've been thinking on my possible death tomorrow. Before you say how every warrior should expect to die someday, that's not what I'm trying to say. I'm fully prepared to pay my visit to the reaper when the time comes, but how I'm going to die... I don't want to go out like this. It isn't because it's painful but because of how nobody will care. All they'll see is just some soldier who died among thousands of others. Just another face in the crowd. Another drop in the bucket. God, I just.. I don't want to die alone.." Gloria then stopped herself, before scoffing at what she said.
"Did I I just really vent that sh!t out to someone like you? Its not like a sociopathic murderer can feel anything at all." She then turned to leave when Able grabbed her by the arm. He turned her around, forcing the black haired woman to look at him. Able didn't know what he was feeling. It had been thousands of years since he's felt emotions other than rage and respect for others he considered worthy of it. It felt too strong and deep to be pity.. Could it be remorse? Sympathy? He had understood that she despised him for all the things he essentially forced her to do. Maybe her life would've been better if she never heard of him. Yet here she was, pouring her heart out to him. Maybe it was his strong respect for her that didn't make him feel disgust over such a display of weakness. Either way, he felt he had to do something
Without thinking, he softly kissed Gloria. The woman in question was too shocked to even protest. It was soft and tender for the moment it lasted before he slowly broke it.
"I promise you. I'll see to it myself that it will never happen.. I won't allow you to suffer that way. Not to you.. Now get some rest, I have no need for sleep deprived soldiers." He whispered softly in her ear before walking off back to wherever he came from.
Gloria couldn't even react properly, a bunch of emotions fluttering all at once, she just sat back down, and begrudgingly tried to get some sleep.
~~~~~~~~
Gloria found her self the next day gunning down Chaos Insurgency members. They were on their way to infiltrate one of their main bases of operations when they were spotted. Now it had become an all out battle. Gloria had just shot down another insurgency agent when another attacked her from behind, tackling her to the ground. A detached hand grabbed him by the shirt and yanked her off Gloria, allowing her to get to her gun and fill his head with lead.
Gloria looked over to Iris, who had a photo in her hand. She gave the teen a thumbs up
"Good looking out there, Iris!" Gloria called out. Iris smiled and nodded before going back to the safety of some barricade as a barrage of bullets fired passed her. Gloria soon caught up with some of the other Omega 7 members up ahead, including Able. They paved a bloody trail of insurgency agents in their wake. Their teamwork was scarily effective and quick, much to the surprise of the rest of their squad.
Unfortunately, all good things have to end, this came when they were getting closer to the base when an air strike was called in. A missile was dropped in an attempt to kill Able
"GLORIA WATCH OUT!" Iris called from an distance. She knew that Able would shrug it off, but Gloria.... Not so much. The rest of Omega 7 were far enough away where they could dive for cover. But Gloria, she only made it A few feet before everything went fuzzy for her. She knew one thing, she was in pain. To a point where she felt paralyzed, she couldn't even scream.
When things finally came back to her, she saw Iris sitting next to her, crying, and screaming for her
"Please don't be dead! This can't be happening! Please no! You can't die! Not like this! God please no!" Iris sobbed.
That was when Gloria tried to move her legs, only to find she couldn't move them. She looked down, only to find everything from the waist down, just gone. Blood gushed from her like a fountain. She could even see her intestines or what was left of them. It was then she realized the blood gushing from her mouth. Iris had taken off her helmet for her to breathe better. Gloria knew she was a dead woman, Iris knew it, even if she wanted so desperately for her to be alive.
Able and the others soon run up to the two. Agent AA looked like he wanted to puke, and Beatrix just looked away. Able crouched down to Gloria, softly cupping her cheek in his hand. Gloria breathing started to slow... He really is keeping his promise. She was half expecting him to shove Iris off of her and leave her to die. Not that she was complaining.
"......Carry on with your assault. we'll be over in a few moments." Able said. He began cursing in ancient Sumerian under under his breath.
"You.. You weren't meant to die like this. Not to the machines they sent because of how cowardly they were to face me. You were supposed to meet your end in the glory of combat.. They robbed that right from you.. You.. You deserved better for someone who gave me a true challenge. I promise you, you'll be avenged." Able growled. His eyes burning like a fire. With the little strength she had, Gloria grabbed his arm.
"P-please.." She said, shaking her head. She didn't want the last thing she'll ever hear is Able yelling . Able understood, staying silent. The look on his face was now calm, almost tranquil in nature. They stared deep into each others eyes for a moment. That was when Able, Without warning, snapped her neck suddenly and painlessly. He saw no point in letting her suffer any longer. Iris started freaking out at this, gripping her blonde hair
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" Iris screamed. Able stood up and looked at her
"Stay here with the body. I've killed off the cowardly fools in this area so you shouldn't have to worry. I want to ensure whatever family she has receives a body. It's what she deserves. "Able said before turning to the base. His eyes sparked with anger. He knew what he must do. He was going to destroy the entire place. He was going to be merciless. There wouldn't be anything left to recover when he was done with it. A twisted smile appeared on his face as he walked towards the doors of the base, a sword in his hand, and a lust for blood arising.
