Twenty Four
Joyful.
That's what I have been feeling ever since that day that we talked.
Contented.
That's what he made me feel ever since we sorted things out.
I sighed as I strummed my pen over the table and suddenly, my thoughts were distracted when a female's fingers snapped in front of me.
"Miss Palermo, are you with us?" Our Department Supervisor, Miss Ashley Wilkins, asked with a raised eyebrow at me. She was standing at the far end of the room where the projector was. Obviously, she was presenting something and I wasn't listening. It's as if I am being scolded as a student all over again.
"Uh, yeah." I said, clearing my throat. I jotted something on my notepad and gave her a sheepish smile.
After graduation, I immediately applied for a job as a Human Resource Staff and fortunately, I got hired by my target company which is the Smith and Anderson Inc. The said company holds the largest retail enterprise in the country. From its huge and renowned endorsers of their clothing lines, it is without a doubt, one of the most successful in the industry.
For this month, I was invited to join the general meeting for the rookies and associates. I am directly under Miss Landicho who I presume has been working for quite a long time here.
Luckily, she is also one of the nicest here. It has been a month already and I am slowly adjusting to the corporate world.
I guess, being a Latin honor is indeed an advantage. I was actually offered several jobs from the companies I applied for prior this but when S & A Inc. called, I grabbed it without hesitation.
"Alright. I want you, Miss Palermo and Mister Juarez to work on the seminars scheduled to be conducted this quarter. As far as I know, we have about four of them on the line up from May until September." Miss Ashley instructed and I nodded. She turned to the other HR staff inside the conference room and discussed other matters while I began to search my eyes for Jester.
Jester is also a Human Resource Staff like me. We are what we call ourselves as 'rookies'. But, I think he got in about two months earlier than me.
When he caught my eye from across the room, he smiled. If there is one thing I like about him, he is so easy to talk to. And, I badly need a friend in this company.
Jester gestured to his phone and I nodded. I discretely pulled out my phone which was in a silent mode and received a text message from him.
Jester:
Let's talk about the seminars later! We still have less than three weeks to prepare for the upcoming seminar this June.
I smiled and typed in my reply and snuck a peek at Miss Ashley before I send it in.
Miss Ashley tackled a few more things before our meeting adjourned. As we head out, I noticed Jester standing outside, his back against the wall.
"Howdy, partner!" Jester cheerfully said. I returned his greeting with equal enthusiasm and we treaded down the hallway and stopped by the corner overlooking the streets.
We are at the fourth floor of the building and at this time, cars have been passing by every now and then. The day is about to end yet I am still hyped out about things.
"So, ano na plano?" I asked directly as I clutched on my notepad and looked at him.
"One seminar won't push thru because the boss isn't around." He said and my forehead creased.
"Boss? The owner of the company?" I asked again and he nodded. "Interesting! Bibihira ang nagbibigay ng talk especially one with the highest position ah."
"Cool yang si boss! Dalawang beses sa isang taon, sya ang speaker sa mga seminars ng company. Bukod pa yan sa mga General Assembly and Company Anniversary ha!" Obviously, this guy is all praises for our big boss.
I let out a giggle and sighed, "okay. So, when can we start sorting out what needs to be prepared? It's almost five in the afternoon. Hindi pa ako ready mag-overtime ngayon."
He laughed and we walked again to our office. "Ang cute mo! Sige, bukas na lang. Saan ka ba umuuwi? Baka along the way ka lang, sabay na tayo." He offered and opened the door for us.
I went in first and I shook my head and smiled at him, "nah. Keri lang. Sige, bukas na lang." I gave him a wave and went to my cubicle at the far end of the room almost beside the restroom.
I stretched my arms and began fixing my things. My phone vibrated and I pulled it out.
Jacob:
I'm at the lobby. See you later, hon.
I smiled and glanced at the clock. It was indeed five minutes to five.
Eagerly, I saved all my documents first before I shut down my computer.
