Overworked
A/N: HEY SWEET LOVES!! I just wanna start off by saying, that this oneshot was inspired by one of fav shows called: Pretty Little Liars!! I'm trying to make this as medically correct as I can as I really don't have too much info about this "illness." ENJOY!!!
This week Pentatonix is rehearsing for their On My Way Home Tour, and it is going semi smoothly. Of course, the first 3 days will be rough but, it should be coming together...and it isn't at all. This means that all 5 of them are stressing however, it has seemed to effect Scott WAY more than the others.
"You okay, Scotty?"
"Huh?? O-Oh yeah, I'm good."
"Really? Why are you holding your side like that??"
Mitch questioned, as Scott has been holding his side all week and Mitch doesn't know why he keeps doing that. Even sometimes, he notices that Scott is so tired. He knows that this week is very, very, stressful but, they've been on so many tours and Scott's never been like this.
"Oh it's nothing, I think I've just pulled a muscle."
"How'd you manage to do that?"
"Umm...you know, from all this dancing."
"Okay, whatever you say Scotty."
Time Skip: 2 Days Later
Today is Thursday, the first show of this tour is on Saturday night. Things have started to come together, so it shouldn't be as stressful as it was at the beginning of the week. Right? That's what Mitch thought, before he started picking up on things that Scott would do that he'd never done before. Concerned for his best friend, he decided to tell Esther about everything just to make sure he wasn't making it a bigger deal than it is.
"Es, can I talk to you?"
Esther was in her office that is located in the front of the venue, it almost shocked her to see Mitch coming in without Scott attached to his side. Then again, Mitch needed to tell her something and she was all ears.
"Sure babe, come sit. So what's up?"
"Well, it's about Scott."
"Awww!! Is it official??!"
"What?"
"Y'all are dating??"
"No, that's not what it's about but, good guess."
"Then what's going on?"
"I'm not even sure myself but, something is up with Scotty. He's just not acting like himself this week at all, and he just seems so stressed. I-I know this has been a very stressful week, don't get me wrong on that. But, he's just doing weird things."
"What kind of weird things, Mitch??"
"Well, yesterday, he went into a store and bought this weird cream. I looked at the bottle and it was for pain. I thought that was very odd, and almost every time he has sat down this week weather it be in the dressing room or during writing sessions he always falls asleep."
"Okay, the pain cream does sound strange. But, the sleeping?"
"I know, I know, I'm most likely making it a bigger deal than it is."
"Has he been doing anything else odd?"
"Yes. I saw him multiple times on stage, gasp for a second and hold his side. That got me thinking that he might have something seriously wrong going on with him."
"That's strange, for sure. Have you asked him about it?"
"I just asked if he was okay, and he said yes."
"Hmm, we'll just have to keep an eye on him Mitch."
"Yeah."
Time Skip: Later That Day, In the Dressing Room
"Yeah Mitchy, I really don't know if we have time to film."
"We might not, and that's okay. The fans will understand, that this has been one heck of a week. How do you think the show is going, Scotty? Is it still stressful for you??
"I know they'll understand, ours fans are the best. Uh, I think the show is going alright. I am still kinda--"Ouch"--"Um...stressed." Are you stressed, Mitch??"
Scott questions, trying to get the spotlight off of him for a moment. As Scott was talking, he gasped again just like Mitch had told Esther he was doin and he held onto his side.
"What hurts?? Why'd you just gasp???"
"I-I-It's really, nothing. C-Cou-Could you grab my bag for me?"
"Your bag?"
"Yes, --"A-Ah"--"Please."
Mitch walked across the room, over to Scott's bag. He now knew something was really up with Scott, and now he just had to figure out what it was. Mitch brought his bag to him, and as quickly as Mitch gave it to him, he was quickly digging into the bag. He pulled out the pain cream, lifted his shirt, and applied the cream.
"Scotty? Didn't you just buy that like...3 days ago??"
"Yeah. Why??"
"Well, it's almost gone, you've used a lot of it."
"It...works."
"Works?? For what, Scotty?"
"The pulled muscle."
"Oh...it must really hurt then."
"Yeah, it does."
Time Skip: 1 Day Later
Scott was just chilling on the tour bus, sitting right up close to Mitch as normal. However, things were not normal, not at all. He's been having side pain for like...the last week, and he has no idea what is causing it or why it is happening. Scott got a sick feeling in his stomach area, and excused himself to the bathroom.
"Ouch, why does this hurt so bad?"
He questioned to himself, before crouching down next to the toilet and expelling his breakfast. Scott stayed quiet, he didn't want anyone to know he was ill. He knows that if he tells, they'll march their way to Esther's office and tell her. Quickly Scott cleaned himself up and headed back to the couch.
"You were in there a long time, Scotty."
"I-I was?"
"Yeah, like a good 20 minutes."
"Oh..."
"Scotty, are you-"
Mitch went to ask Scott if he was okay but, he turned right around and didn't answer that question. Shortly after though, they left the bus and headed into the venue. They were in the hallway, where all of the dressing rooms are located. When Scott bent over to pick up his bag he gasped loudly, and grabbed his side.
"Ow!! Ah!! Ouch!!!"
Everyone looked over at Scott, to figure out what the issue was. Before they could even begin to ask him what was wrong, he had fallen on his knees right on the floor and was screaming in what seemed to be so much pain. Mitch was frozen, Esther ran up to Scott, and Kevin was quick to rush in and help.
"I need medics, stat."
Esther radioed
"Scott, what hurts??"
Kevin questioned
"S-S-Si"--Ouch!!--"S-Side hurts, pain."
Scott cried out in pain, barley able to get actual words out. Mitch was still standing right in front watching all of this go down, Kirstie had just walked in and saw Scott on the floor. Since she has more luggage, it took her awhile to get all of it off the bus. Kirstie was confused, and she saw the fear in Mitch's eyes and walked up to him, putting her arm over his shoulder.
"Mitch? What happened to him??"
"I-Uh-I-I-don't know."
The medics arrived, and decided that they couldn't really do anything for Scott. He needed to be taken to the hospital as this is something the venue medics are not trained to take care of. Esther, being Esther, was quick to call an ambulance.
"Okay, It's okay Scott, I'm calling an ambulance."
If anything, Scott was not calming down....he was freaking out still. He was rolling all over the floor, crying, and putting his legs into the fetal position. Kirstie knew, that if Mitch went to him and talked to him things would get better so, she told Mitch to go talk to Scott.
"Mitch, go talk to him."
"B-But, I-I can't see him like this, it scares me."
"It Scares me too, Mitch. But, we both know that if you go talk to him he will calm down. He's in a lot of pain, clearly, and he is scared. Normally Scott's the one calming you down but, this time he needs that from you."
"You are right, Kirstie, I'll go talk to him."
Mitch walked over to Scott, and squatted down right next to him. He got Scott to look at him by brushing the hair out of his eyes by doing that, he gained Scott's attention.
"Scotty, I'm right here, you'll be fine."
"I-I-It--"Ah!--" r-really hurts."
"I know it does, just breathe, help is coming."
After what seemed like forever, the ambulance finally arrived. Mitch and Esther were able to ride with him to the hospital so, that was a plus. When they got to the hospital, the doctors ad nurses started to figure out what was going on. He also started vomiting every ten minutes or so which was hard for anyone, let alone Mitch. Ffter bunches of blood draws, pricks, and, pokes the knew what was going on with Scott.
"I have an Ulcer?!"
"Yes, Mr. Hoying."
"How did I get that??"
"It's caused by stress, sir."
"When can I go back on stage?!"
"That's off the table for now, you need to rest your body."
"B-But, w-we have tour a-a-and everything."
"I'm going to let you process this, Mr. Hoying."
The doctor said, as he left the room. Scott was in tears, and Mitch knew how hard it was for Scott to hear that information all at once. He stood up from the uncomfortable chair he was sitting on and went over to Scott's bedside.
"Scotty, don't stress more, it will make it worse. I know you don't want to hear anything that doctor has to say but. he knows what is best for you. If he thinks resting is best, then it's best."
"A-Are we going to have to put off tour?? Or cancel it???"
"I'm not sure yet, we will have to see what else the doctor thinks."
"There are so many fans who have tickets, now I've let them down."
"Hey. Don't say that, you know that isn't true."
"It feels true."
"Maybe it does now but soon enough it won't."
"You think so Mitchy??"
"Yes. It will get worse before it gets better but, it will get better."
