February 14th, Valentine's Day

Today is Valentine's Day!

Right now, Mitch is heading to the kids' elementary school to volunteer in Sawyer's fifth grade class, Amelia's third grade class and Joel's kindergarten class! This is something Mitch and Scott have done every school year!

Meanwhile earlier in the day, Scott went to volunteer in Gabriella's pre-kindergarten class and Bridger and Luna's preschool class for their Valentine's Day parties!

For the kids Christmas class parties a few months back, Mitch went to Gabriella, Bridger and Luna's classes while Scott went to Sawyer, Amelia and Joel's classes! So for the Valentine's Day parties Mitch and Scott are switching places so they can both be involved in their youngest six's classes.

Today is also Amelia's ninth birthday, so Mitch is bringing rainbow themed birthday cupcakes and nine balloons to celebrate her special day along with her classmates!

Mitch has just arrived at the elementary school! He signed in at the office, getting his little name badge to put on his grey sweatshirt . Mitch is now walking around the elementary school now, looking for Amelia's classroom.

Mitch's plan is to spend around thirty to forty five minutes in each of the kids' classrooms so they all feel special and loved. He is going to Amelia's classroom first since today is also her birthday, then he will go to Joel's classroom and finally he will got Sawyer's classroom. 

After all of the class Valentine's Day parties are finished, Mitch will take Sawyer, Amelia and Joel out of school for the last forty fives  minutes of the school day to take them out shopping to spend much needed time together!

Mitch slowly walks up to Amelia's third grade classroom, happily seeing Amelia talking with her classmates Cairo, Jensen, Raury, Nova and Esther and Darien's daughter Hana. Also in Amelia's class is Avi and Kate's daughter Wren, Kevin and Tara's son Henry, Kirstie's daughter Harper, Alex and Jake's son Levi and Beau and Gage's sons Owen and Benson.

"Look at my Valentine's Day box, Amelia!" Hana says, placing the girly looking shoe box on her desk.

"Woah! That's so cool, Hanny! I loveeeeee it! Here's mine! Hudson helped me glue all of the pom poms because it was getting on my freaking nerves!" Amelia says with some sass, causing Hana to giggle loudly.

"The rainbow pom poms make your Valentine's Day box pop out and be super unique! I love yours too! And Hudson is so so artsy! Shiloh and Sadie both helped me with mine! Shiloh wants to go to college to be in art and be a famous artist like Picasso." Hana says with a grin on her face.

"She'll be even cooler and more gucci than Picasso was!" Amelia says as she and Hana both giggle and smile at each other.

"That's so pwretty! I like both of your Valentine's Day boxes! My mommy helped me make my box like a tutu!" Nova says as she places her Valentine's Day box on her desk, causing Amelia and Hana to squeal happily.

"A TUTU? That's so legit, Nova! Your Valentine's Day box is awesome!" Hana says to Nova.

"Yeah! That's probably the coolest Valentine's Day box in the WHOLE entire third grade and probably the WHOLE school!" Amelia says to Nova, causing Nova's face to light up happily.

"That's what I said to my brother Chance but he didn't think so!" Nova says causing herself, Hana and Amelia to all laugh.

"Yeah, brothers always say silly stuff like that!" Hana says as Amelia nods in agreement.

"Mine is super basic! But my brother Malachi's Valentine's Day box is super extra!" Cairo says causing Amelia, Hana, Jensen, Nova and Raury all laugh loudly before they all look at Malachi, who is sitting across the classroom from them.

"I like it, Cairo!" Jensen says as he puts his Valentine's Day box's lid back on his box.

"Yeah! I wike it too, Cairo!" Raury says, fixing his glasses.

"Thanks!" Cairo says to Jensen and Raury.

Just then, Mrs Turner begins to clap her hands as she walks around her classroom, letting the third graders know to stop talking and to listen to her instructions.

"One, two, eyes on me!" Mrs. Turner says, getting her class' attention.

"One, two, eyes on you!" Daehan, Shay, Ford, Lindy, Owen, Jaecie, Harper, Cooper, Malachi, Levi, Naomi, Meadow, Benson, Bellamy, Parker, Ethan, Jolie, Kiyew, Henry, Camden, Alila, Sariah, Wren, Sebastian, Amelia, Nova, Raury, Hana, Jensen and Cairo all repeat back to Mrs. Turner, letting her know that they are paying attention and are ready for instructions to be given.

"Thank you! I love how everyone listened right away and got focused! That's was great. Also, I really really love everyone's Valentine's Day boxes! They so creative and very fun! We are now getting ready to begin our Valentine's Day party! A lot of our parents and special adults are outside the classroom waiting to join us so let's all welcome them with lots of smiles and kindness!" Mrs. Turner say as she opens her classroom door, allowing Mitch, the other parents and guardians inside the classroom.

"Our Valentine's Day party is also going to be a birthday party because today is Amelia's ninth birthday! So let's all wish our best friend Amelia a very happy birthday!" Mrs. Turner says as she hands Amelia a birthday ribbon she gives all of the children on their birthdays.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMELIA!" Daehan, Shay, Ford, Lindy, Owen, Jaecie, Harper, Cooper, Malachi, Levi, Naomi, Meadow, Benson, Bellamy, Parker, Ethan, Jolie, Kiyew, Henry, Camden, Alila, Sariah, Wren, Sebastian, Nova, Raury, Hana, Jensen and Cairo all say in unison loudly with big cheeky smiles on their faces.

"Thank you everybody!" Amelia says to her classmate as she smiles when she sees Mitch walk over to her.

"Before we get started I want everyone to thank our parents and special adults in our lives for volunteering and helping us with our class' Valentine's Day party today. Because of them we will have a wonderful Valentine's Day party. So let's all say thank you!

"Thank you!" Daehan, Shay, Ford, Lindy, Owen, Jaecie, Harper, Cooper, Malachi, Levi, Naomi, Meadow, Benson, Bellamy, Parker, Ethan, Jolie, Kiyew, Henry, Camden, Alila, Sariah, Wren, Sebastian, Nova, Raury, Hana, Jensen and Cairo all say in unison to all of the adults that are in the classroom.

"Amelia's dad Mx. Mitch is here and they brought us some delicious cupcakes for all of us to enjoy along with our other goodies and snacks! You all may pass around Valentine's and treats now! But I need everyone to make sure we throw our trash away, share and be thoughtful to everyone. So let's have fun! Happy Valentine's Day!" Mrs. Turner says to the class before she begins to help the parents and other adults.

*Amelia's outfit*

"Daddy! Daddy!" Amelia says as she runs over to Mitch, hugging him tightly.

Mitch hugs Amelia back and tightly gives her a few soft kisses on her cheeks.

"Hi, baby! Happy birthday! Are you having a fun school day?" Mitch asks Amelia, smiling down at her.

"Thank you, Daddy! And yes! Today has been soooo fun so far! We had art and music classes today, my favorite subjects and now it is party time!" Amelia says, clapping her hands with excitement.

"It is party time! A Valentine's Day slash birthday party for you! That's so fun, I'm so glad you had your favorite classes today since today is your birthday!" And look! I got you a big rose gold 9 you have been really wanting!" Mitch says, causing Amelia to squeal in excitement.

"YOU FOUND ONE!" Amelia squeals again as she jumps around before she hugs the balloon for an adorable picture.

"I did! Liam found it for you, so you gotta thank him when we come home." Mitch says to Amelia.

"I will, Daddy! Where did he find it at?" Amelia asks Mitch curiously.

"I think he found it at a Party City that one of his friends works at! This was the last one left apparently." Mitch explains to Amelia and Amelia smiles.

Mitch sits with Amelia during the duration that he is with her, enjoying this special time with his now nine year old. Mitch also talks with the other children as well as Beau, Jake, Kirstie, Kate, Tara and Esther!

After being in Amelia's classroom for around forty five minutes, Mitch kisses Amelia's cheeks and he leaves to spend some time in Sawyer's fifth grade class!

Next, Mitch, Kate, Tara, Mark, Esther, Jake, Kirstie, Grace and a few other parents walk over to Mrs. Perry's classroom getting ready for their classroom Valentine's Day party but have to wait quietly in the hallway because a social studies lesson is currently finishing up. This is Sawyer's fifth grade class! Kate's son Ezra, Tara's daughter Laila, Mark's son Milo, Esther's twin boys Gabriel and Noah, Jake's daughter Aurora, Kirstie's son Reed and Grace's son Kellen are all in Sawyer's class too!

"Can someone raise their hand and explain to the class what the Underground Railroad was?" Mrs. Perry asks the class as a few students begin to raise their hands.

Mrs. Perry points at Ezra to answer the question.

"The Underground Railroad was something that helped slaves become free." Ezra says to the class.

"That's right, Ezra. Now, was it an actual railroad with trains or cars?" Mrs. Perry asks the whole class.

"No." Sawyer, Ezra, Laila, Milo, Gabriel, Noah, Aurora, Reed, Kellen, Oliver, Garnett, Coco, Emilee, Coralynn, Ascher, Evaliah, Dana, Alena, Levon, Ellerie, Natalina, Adam, Watson, Maggie, Addisyn, Luca, Serenity and Braelynn all say in unison to Mrs. Perry.

"No, it was not. However, the Underground Railroad was a humungous network of people and places that helped enslaved African Americans reach freedom, which was in the northern states of the United States and Canada. A lot of slaves didn't make it to freedom. Remember yesterday, we talked about how the southern states became the Confederate States of America around this time frame. We will learn about that more next week. Now, a lot of the people who helped the slaves through their long and scary journey all around the Underground Railroad were abolitionists. What was an abolitionist?" Mrs. Perry asks the class.

Mrs. Perry points at Alena to answer the question.

"A person who didn't like slavery." Alena says to the class.

"That's right, Alena. An abolitionist was a person who protested and fought for the end of slavery. That was their goal. They believed NO ONE should be treated as property and also to not be treated that way due to their skin color. A lot of people who lived in the now Confederate States of America did not want slavery to end and they actually wanted to expand slavery to even more states. Yesterday, we talked about one of the most well known former slaves who helped with the Underground Railroad. The slaves called her Moses or a God. What was her name?" Mrs. Perry says to the class.

"Harriet Tubman." Sawyer, Ezra, Laila, Milo, Gabriel, Noah, Aurora, Reed, Kellen, Oliver, Garnett, Coco, Emilee, Coralynn, Ascher, Evaliah, Dana, Alena, Levon, Ellerie, Natalina, Adam, Watson, Maggie, Addisyn, Luca, Serenity and Braelynn all say in unison to Mrs. Perry.

"That's correct! Now after the Civil War, the thirteenth amendment was created. I want everyone to write this down in our Constitution section of our social studies notebooks. This is number thirteen out of the twenty seven amendments. The thirteenth amendment is an amendment in the United States constitution that abolished slavery. So this means,  no one in the United States can own a person as property and people cannot be used to do things for them. Remember, we all looked at the signs that showed how they sold the slaves just like you would buy food or goods from the store." Mrs. Perry says as the kids nod uncomfortably about what they saw yesterday.

"Now next week, we will start our brand new unit which will be about the Civil War. I know we touched about the Civil War while we talked about slavery but we will learn more about how the Civil War ties into our lessons about slavery. But so summarize it, the Civil War was a war between the Union aka the Northern states and the Confederacy aka the Southern states. The North did not want slavery while the South did. The North ultimately won the war but we will go in depth all next week about the Civil War and about President Abraham Lincoln as well." Mrs. Perry says as she closes her notebook.

"Abraham Lincoln was assassinated!" Watson calls out loud, sharing the fact he knew.

"That is true, Watson. President Lincoln was assassinated and we will learn more about that during the next unit too. He was also. The President of the United States during the Civil War. Now, I need everyone to put their social studies notebooks away because we have parents and special adults here to help us with our Valentine's Day party. Sawyer, can you open the door for our guests please?" Mrs. Perry says to the kids and to Sawyer.

Sawyer happily walks over to the classroom door and opens it, allowing all of the parents and other adults to come in.

"Hi, Dad!" Sawyer says with a smile showing off his green and blue braces and gives Mitch a hug.

"Hi, bud! How are you?" Mitch says, giving Sawyer a soft and discreet kiss on the cheek so all of his friends don't see it and embarrass Sawyer.

"Good! We just finished our social studies lesson about slavery." Sawyer says, excited to learn about any kind of history since he is he history nerd of the family.

"I heard! And next week will begin to learn all about the Civil War! I know you, Grampy and Poppy will talk all about that when they all come to visit us in a few weeks." Mitch says to Sawyer and Sawyer smiles, excited to see his grandparents soon.

"I want all of us to thank our parents and special adults in our lives for helping us with our Valentine's Day party. 

"Thank you!" Sawyer, Ezra, Laila, Milo, Gabriel, Noah, Aurora, Reed, Kellen, Oliver, Garnett, Coco, Emilee, Coralynn, Ascher, Evaliah, Dana, Alena, Levon, Ellerie, Natalina, Adam, Watson, Maggie, Addisyn, Luca, Serenity and Braelynn all say in unison to all of the adults in the classroom.

"Hey Sawyer, here's a cupcake from Amelia's birthday cupcakes. I made sure to keep one for you and one for Joel." Mitch says as Sawyer smiles ear to ear at the sweet treat since he loves sweets.

"Thank you, Dad! These are the best cupcakes! EVER!" Sawyer says as he begins to eat the cupcake right away.

"They are! Amelia requested fondant icing on her birthday cupcakes and I know that is not your favorite." Mitch says to Sawyer.

"That's fine! The cupcake makes up for the frosting!" Sawyer says with cupcake all over his face, causing Mitch to laugh and smile.

"Make sure you clean your face up, silly." Mitch says as Sawyer quickly cleans off his face and smiles at Mitch.

After being in Sawyer's classroom for around forty five minutes, Mitch hugs Sawyer and manages to sneak another cheek kiss before he leaves to go to the last classroom party of the day - which is Joel's kindergarten class!

Finally, Mitch, Beau, Mark, Esther, Kate, Jake, and a few other parents walk over to Mrs. Bush's classroom for the final Valentine's Day party of the day! This is Joel's kindergarten class! Also in Joel's kindergarten class is Beau's daughter Aria, Mark's twins Oaklyn and Oliver, Esther's triplets Amos, Maya and Zev, Kate's son Micah and Jake's daughter Ruby!

Right now,  Mrs. Bush and her students Aria, Oliver, Grier, Maya, Maycey, Micah, Joel, Tia Peppa, Ranger, Isabel, Lilah, Edgar, Zev, Betty, Harrizon, Ruby, Emmri, Maddyx, Amos, Oaklyn, Graham, Ava Skye, Carew and Locklyn are all currently during circle time around the special carpet. 

"Okay, my special friends! I need all of my special friends to clap two times if you can hear me." Mrs. Bush says as her students begin to do as she asked.

"Awesome! I need everyone to have their listening ears on for when I give these instructions! Does everyone have their listening ears on?"  Mrs. Bush asks the class.

"YES!" Aria, Oliver, Grier, Maya, Maycey, Micah, Joel, Tia Peppa, Ranger, Isabel, Lilah, Edgar, Zev, Betty, Harrizon, Ruby, Emmri, Maddyx, Amos, Oaklyn, Graham, Ava Skye, Carew and Locklyn all say in unison to Mrs. Bush.

"Excellent! It is now time for our Valentine's Day party! So what I need everyone to do is I need all of you to get your Valentine's Day boxes from the back. Then I need all of you to sit at your desks. Once at our desks you can get your valentines out and ready to pass out. I will tell all of you when you can pass them out. While you guys pass out valentines, myself and our special adults will setup the tables with all of the food, goodies and drinks. Does everyone understand?" Mrs. Bush asks the class.

"Yes!" Aria, Oliver, Grier, Maya, Maycey, Micah, Joel, Tia Peppa, Ranger, Isabel, Lilah, Edgar, Zev, Betty, Harrizon, Ruby, Emmri, Maddyx, Amos, Oaklyn, Graham, Ava Skye, Carew and Locklyn all say in unison.

"Excellent! Okay, you guys can now get up and begin!" Mrs. Bush says as all of the kids stand up and begins to follow the directions Mrs. Bush told them to do.

Joel, Grier and Zev begin to play around, causing each other to giggle and smile.

"Joel. Zev and Grier. No horseplay please. Thank you." Mrs. Bush says to the trio of boys.

After a few minutes, Aria, Oliver, Grier, Maya, Maycey, Micah, Joel, Tia Peppa, Ranger, Isabel, Lilah, Edgar, Zev, Betty, Harrizon, Ruby, Emmri, Maddyx, Amos, Oaklyn, Graham, Ava Skye, Carew and Locklyn all follow all of the directions that Mrs. Bush told them to do.

"Alrighty! Thank you guys so so much for following all of the directions nicely! Now I'm going to bring our guests in to join us for our Valentin's day party." Mrs. Bush says to all of the kids before letting Mitch, Beau, Mark, Esther, Kate, Jake, and a few other parents all into the classroom.

Mitch happily walks over to Joel causing Joel to cheer loudly. Joel and Mitch have a very close relationship and is Mitch calls Joel a Daddy's Boy.

"Hi, Daddy!" Joel says as he squeezes Mitch into a big hug.

Mitch squeezes Joel back, giving him lots of kisses causing Joel to giggle and smile.

"Hi, bud! How are you?" Mitch asks Joel.

"I'm good, Daddy!" Joel says happily as sits back down in his seat, sitting awkwardly but that's what little boys do.

"That's good! Have you been a good boy?" Mitch asks Joel knowing Joel just got in trouble a little bit.

"Uh huh!" Joel says as Mitch giggles.

"How did your hair get this messed up? Did you go wild during recess?" Mitch asks Joel, trying to fix Joel's hair before he takes any pictures of him.

"No! I just pwayed!" Joel says as he gets his valentines out of his book bag and smiling at Mitch.

"Okay, my special friends! We all need to say thank you to our parent and special adults in our lives for helping all of us make our Valentine's Day party special and fun!"  Mrs. Bush says to the class.

"Thank you!" Aria, Oliver, Grier, Maya, Maycey, Micah, Joel, Tia Peppa, Ranger, Isabel, Lilah, Edgar, Zev, Betty, Harrizon, Ruby, Emmri, Maddyx, Amos, Oaklyn, Graham, Ava Skye, Carew and Locklyn all say in unison to all of the adults that are in the classroom.

After all of the Valentine's Day parties, Mitch, Joel, Amelia and Sawyer all head home for the day! The Grassi-Hoying's all celebrate Valentine's Day together as a family! :)
