Make Believe Friend

(A/N, okay, so this oneshot is gonna jump around with Mitch's age. I'll tell you when his age changes, but just wanted to tell ya. Also, this is gonna get weird, but enjoy the oneshot!)

"Honey, we're gonna go get you your birthday cake!" Mrs. Grassi said.
Five year old Mitch nodded. "Okay, Momma."
Mrs. Grassi gave her son a quick kiss. "Be back soon."
Mitch went to the backyard, sitting on the swing, crying.
"Hey, what's wrong?" A little boy around his age asked.
"I got no friends." Mitch said, sniffing. "I was supposed to have a party for my birthday, but no one wants to come."
"Happy birthday!" The boy said. "I'm Scott."
"I'm Mitch, and thank you."
Scott grinned. "So, can I come to your party?"
"Sure!" Mitch exclaimed, hugging the boy.
"Are you gonna have cake?"
"Is that a bad thing?" Mitch asked.
"I don't like cake." Scott said.
"You don't like cake?" Mitch asked.
Scott shrugged. "I just don't like it, but I'll eat some cause it's your birthday."
"Thanks." Mitch said, as Scott got on the swing next to him. "Are you my friend now?"
"I guess so!" Scott said.
"I've never had a friend before!" Mitch exclaimed.
"Never? Me either!" Scott said. "Wanna be best friends?"
"Sure! Sounds fun!" Mitch said. "There's Momma and Daddy! C'mon, Scott!"
Mitch and Scott ran into the Grassi home. "Momma! Daddy!"
Mr and Mrs. Grassi hugged their son. "Happy birthday, Mitch!"
"Thanks! This is Scott!" Mitch exclaimed. "Scott, this is Momma and Daddy!"
Mr. Grassi looked confused for a minute. "Oh! You have an imaginary friend!"
Mitch cocked his head to the side. "What's an imaginary friend?"
"It's a kind of friend." Mrs. Grassi said. "Hi, Scott! I'm Mrs. Grassi, but you can call me Momma."
"And I'm Mr. Grassi, or Daddy." Mr. Grassi said. "Mitch, do you want cake now?"
"Yeah!" Mitch cheered, as his parents walked over to the kitchen. "Scott, what's an imaginary friend?"
Scott shrugged. "I think that's what parents think their kid's friends are."
"Oh! Okay!" Mitch said, as his parents set his cake in front of him, singing 'Happy Birthday'.
"Make a wish." Scott said.
"I already made mine." Mitch said, giggling, blowing out the candles. "Momma, can Scott have a small piece?"
Mrs. Grassi smiled. "Do you want more cake than him?"
"No, he just doesn't like cake a lot." Mitch said. "Is a small piece okay?"
Scott nodded.
"Yeah, he's okay with it!" Mitch called.
Mrs. Grassi smiled. "Okay, two pieces of cake for two little boys."

"You'll be right there, right?" Mitch asked.
"Course I will!" Scott said. "I wouldn't leave you for anything."
"Okay, which one of these?" Mitch asked, holding up a pink and blue shirt.
"Pink!" Scott said.
"Why?" Mitch asked.
"It looks pretty on you!" Scott said.
"Wait, you cant say I'm pretty, you're a boy too." Mitch said.
Scott shrugged. "Well, you do!"
Mitch grinned, pulling on the pink shirt. "Let's go to school!"
"Mitchell, what do you think you're doing in a pink shirt?" One of the teachers asked. "Go put something else on."
Mitch looked over at Scott. "But I like it."
"Well boys shouldn't wear pink." The teacher said. "Change or go to the principal's office."
"Mrs. Price! I need help!" A girl called.
"Coming." Mrs. Price said. "I'll come back to you, Mitchell."
Three older middle school boys walked over. "Hey, Grassi, what're you doing wearing girly stuff? Are you a f-g?"
Tears spilled from Mitch's eyes, as the boys shoved him against the wall.
"Yeah, cry, you're just a little girl aren't you?"
The boys yelled, as they began getting beat up.
Mitch looked up, seeing Scott hitting them.
"Who's hitting us?!" One of the boys shouted.
"I dont know!" Another yelled. "Run!"
Scott grinned, hugging his friend. "Are you okay, Mitchy?"
"Yeah, I'm okay." Mitch said.
"Good." Scott said. "Let's go to class."
          *time skip to age 16*

"Are you going to prom?" Scott asked.
"Nope, no one wants to go with me." Mitch replied. "Scotty?"
"Yes?"
"Will you be my first kiss?"
Scott smiled. "You know what, sure." He leaned over, pecking his friend on the lips.
"No! I wanna good kiss!" Mitch exclaimed.
Scott grinned wider, kissing Mitch hard. He put his hand behind his friend's head. "Will you be my boyfriend?"
Mitch smiled. "Sure."

*time skip to age 25*

Mitch flung himself onto the bed, crying.
"Hey, what's the matter?" Scott asked.
"Where the f--k have you been!?" Mitch cried. "You keep leaving me!"
"I don't mean to, honey! It's not my fault!" Scott said.
"What do you mean it's not your fault? You're the one leaving!" Mitch said.
Scott sighed, sitting down next to his boyfriend. "Do you remember when we were five years old, when we first met?"
Mitch smiled a little. "Yeah, how could I forget?"
Scott took a deep breath. "Honey, I'm not real."
Mitch's heart stopped. "What?"
"I'm not real, I'm a part of your imagination." Scott said. "On your birthday, you made me up."
More tears spilled from Mitch's eyes. "All those years, you lied to me! You said you loved me! You said-"
"I'm sorry, babygirl! I never wanted to hurt you!" Scott cried.
Mitch began hitting Scott's chest. "I loved you! I wanted to marry you! I thought you were real!" He shouted.
"Mitchy, baby," Scott said, holding his wrists. "You're breaking me."
"Good! I don't want you!" Mitch shouted, continuing to hit Scott's chest.
"Hey, promise me you'll remember all our adventures, fun times, and kisses." Scott said.
Mitch stopped hitting him. "Those are the things I want to forget!"
"Don't forget them." Scott said. "You'll want to remember them." He began fading, his figure becoming blurry.
"Scott, what's happening?" Mitch cried.
"You're letting go of me." Scott said. "It's time, honey. I love you."
"No, no, no! Scott, no!" Mitch sobbed. "I love you!"
Scott smiled, fading away completely.

Mitch sat bolt upright in bed, tears streaming down his face, his breath hitching. "B...baby?"
He felt two arms around him. "Mhm?"
"Oh my gosh, baby!" Mitch cried. "You're okay!"
"What're you talking about?" Mitch's boyfriend said.
Mitch told him about what happened. "Was that a dream?"
"Of course it was, honey." Scott said gently. "I'm real, and I'm never gonna leave you."
