Cruel Summer
(A/N, since we're in quarantine, I got this idea. I hope you like it! If I get anything factually wrong, comment to tell me.)
"Hey, Mitch!" Scott said, their Zoom call starting.
"Hey! How're you?" Mitch asked.
"I'm okay, how're you?"
"I'm good, I've been baking a lot!" Mitch said.
"Quarantine bread?" Scott asked.
His boyfriend laughed. "I made cherry bread, gluten free."
Scott grinned. "I really want some!"
"I'll make you a loaf and leave it by your door!" Mitch said.
"That'd be great! Thanks, babe!" Scott said.
"Scotty?" Mitch asked.
"Yes, honey?"
"Will you play something on the piano?"
Scott smiled. "Sure!" He took his phone, setting it up on the piano. "Can you see, Mitchy?"
"Yeah, hold on!" Mitch exclaimed, hurrying to his own piano.
"You set up, beautiful?" Scott asked.
"Yep! What should we play?" Mitch asked.
"I don't know, I've been working on Someone You Loved." Scott said.
"Oh my gosh, same!" Mitch said. "We can do harmony!"
Scott smiled, playing a few chords.
"I'm going under and this time I fear there's no one to save me." Scott sang. "This all or nothing really got a way of driving me crazy."
"I need somebody to heal, somebody to know, somebody to have, somebody to hold." Mitch sang, smiling at Scott. "It's easy to say, but it's never the same. I guess I kinda liked the way you numbed all the pain."
"But now the day bleeds, into nightfall, and you're not here, to get me through it all." The two harmonized. "I let my guard down, and you pulled the rug. I was kinda getting used to being someone you loved."
They finished the song, Scott looking up at Mitch on the phone screen. "Oh my gosh, baby! What's wrong!?"
Mitch shook his head, wiping his eyes. "Nothing, I just miss you."
"Aw, Mitchy, I miss you too, this thing should be over soon, I promise we'll see each other soon!" Scott said.
"We had plans and everything! We had the tour, and everything! I...I just miss you!" Mitch said.
"Mitch, honey, I miss you so much, but hey, I'll come to your place and stand in your backyard, how bout that?"
"Really?"
"You make cherry bread, I'll come over."
"Okay! I gotta get busy!" Mitch said. "I cant wait to see you!"
Scott sat in his car, pulling on a mask and a pair of gloves. "Gotta get flowers!"
He walked into the store, looking through the flowers they had.
"Um, are you Scott Hoying?" Two girls asked.
"And somehow you recognize me with a mask?" Scott asked. "Yes, I'm Scott."
"We love you!" One of the girls said. "I'm May!"
"I'm Millie!" The other said. "I wanna hug you so bad!"
"Aw, thanks! And I'm sorry!" Scott said. "I wanna hug you too! Wanna picture?"
The girls nodded.
"Okay!"
"Alright, May, right? You take a picture of me and, um, Millie? Then we'll switch."
The girls took a picture with Scott, six feet apart.
"Thanks so much!" They said, staring to walk away.
"Wait! Girls! I need your help!" Scott called.
May and Millie whirled around. "What's wrong?"
"I'm gonna visit Mitch, and I need your help picking out flowers!"
"Aw! That's so sweet!" May said. "Um, I say roses!"
"No, hydrangeas!" Millie said. "Pink and blue ones!"
"Nuh uh, purple and yellow roses!" May said.
"Girls, girls, how about both?" Scott said.
"Yeah!"
They picked out the flowers, Millie and May grinning the whole time.
"I'll tell Mitch hi for you." Scott said. "Thanks so much!"
"Course! See you, Scott!" The girls said, running off.
"MITCH!" Scott called from his boyfriend's backyard. "I'M IN YOUR YARD!"
Mitch poked his head out of his window. "BABE! HI!"
"HI! I LEFT YOU FLOWERS ON THE PORCH!"
"THAT'S SO SWEET! THANK YOU! YOUR BREAD'S ON THE STEPS!"
Scott held it up. "I GOT IT!"
"MY THROAT HURTS, I CAN'T YELL, HOLD ON!" Mitch shouted, shutting the window.
He ran downstairs, coming out on the porch. "Hi, baby!"
"Hey, honey!" Scott said. "I wish I could kiss you."
"I wanna kiss you too." Mitch said. "What have you been doing?"
"Not much, I've been working on music stuff."
"Oh nice! I've been doing the same thing!" Mitch said. "I adopted a dog!"
"No way, really?" Scott said. "A brother or sister for Wyatt?"
"A sister! The fans are still replying to what we should name her."
"Baby, let's name her Aphrodite!"
"I love that!" Mitch said. "Aphree!"
The dog ran over, running to Scott.
"Yay! Hi, puppy!" Scott said, petting the dog.
"She likes you!" Mitch laughed. "Apree! Come to Mommy!"
The puppy ran back to Mitch, then Scott, and then back again.
"Baby, I think it's gonna storm." Scott said. "I'm gonna go."
"Oh, okay, baby! I miss you!" Mitch called.
"I miss you too, love you!" Scott said, blowing his boyfriend a kiss.
"I love you too!" Mitch called, as his new dog ran inside, and he closed the door. "Ugh, it's a cruel summer."
