Part 1: The Ascent - Chapter 1

Andy sat watching her brother and his friends play with the mounds of paper airplanes that they had constructed. She was sitting on the balcony of her family's two story house, and from there she could see just about anything they were doing.
Andy lived in a neighbourhood that was slightly strange, if not completely crazy. Just about everyone was a sticky beak, and you couldn't do something without everyone instantly knowing.
The houses were a start. Sure, they had gotten better after an odd 20 years, but they were horrible, in the sense that none of them matched, and they were all rainbow. There had been new houses built over the years that were much better than the old ones, but Andy had heard that they all used to have pastel colours, which would have been even more of a nightmare.
There was also a giant castle at the end of the road that they lived on, but everyone thought it was haunted. Apparently the guy who lived there was an inventor and had created a man. But he died before he could finish him, so he had scissors for hands, and killed some guy who went up there.
Honestly Andy didn't believe all that. She thought the stories were made up by a bunch of kids who were trying to scare their friends, but maybe scared them a little too much.
"Look, look, LOOK!" Jordan, Andy's little brother, shouted excitedly, pointing at his plane that was gliding up onto the balcony.
"That was the best one yet!" He elbowed one of his friends' sides and they pushed him back.
Andy got up from where she was sitting and picked the plane up off the tiles.
"Throw it back!" One of Jordan's friends yelled. "Down here!"
"Alright, calm down!" Andy positioned herself and with one big swing she threw the plane.
It immediately caught the wind and lifted into the sky.
"WOAH!" Jordan yelled, running to keep up with the plane that was swooping and gliding down the street.
Andy, surprised and amazed, jolted up from her seat and raced inside and down the stairs.
By now all of Jordan's friends were running after it, Andy at the very back.
Oh no. She thought. That's heading straight for the castle.
