Chapter 50

Grace hurriedly pulled the workbench off Andy and Edward, using all three's strength combined to move it. When they were free, Andy and Edward rushed over to Kevin who was lying on the floor spluttering and leaking blood. Grace crouched over him as well.
"Kevin," Andy said gently.
"Kevin!" Grace said much more loudly. Her voice was filled with panic and regret. "You can't die!" She grabbed ahold of his arm and he weakly grasped hers. He didn't say anything.
Andy looked over to Edward. He couldn't seem to take his gaze from Kevin.
"Edward," Kevin said hoarsely. "I need to say something to you." He held a hand tightly over his stomach, wincing at every slight movement. Grace helped him sit up, and they brought him to the side of the room so he could lean up against a wall.
"Yes?" Edward said to him, looking intently for the answer in Kevin's half closed eyes.
"My life was a waste." He said. Grace almost interjected but she was cut off. "At least, I thought it was. I'm old, and I never really did anything even when I was young." He paused and looked at the three terrified faces. "I thought I'd never get a chance to make something of myself. But I have now. Edward,"
"Yes?" Edward leaned in slightly, hoping for an answer he could comprehend.
"When you saved me - back then - you sacrificed yourself for me. Now I get to do the same."
Kevin coughed red, and grinned at his friends for the last time.
"This was an epic death, wasn't it?" He said, coughed again, then was silent.
No one knew what to say. Two bodies lay in the same room - one an unfeeling villain, and the other a hero who had just sacrificed his life.

"I guess it's all over now, right?" Andy said, looking at Grace and Edward. They were in the main room of the mansion, where it was dark and dingy.
"Right," Grace responded, a look of sadness plastered onto her face. "Right." She said again.
"And these..." Andy held up her hands, and Edward watched them as she did. "Any chance of returning to normal?" She winced, trying not to look at Edward. She had come to like being similar to him, but all in all, when she'd experienced the practicality of having hands - she knew deep down that's what she preferred.
Grace didn't seem to register what she had said at first, but then shook herself awake and took a breath in.
"I guess if Ivan got them on you here, there must be special tools or something I can use to get them off again."
Andy began to smile, but then she did the inevitable - looked right at Edward. That was unfixable. So she said nothing and leaned forward and embraced him in a hug. He froze, but relaxed after the initial shock.
"Edward," Grace said when Andy stepped back. "I'm really sorry, but... I dont think I'll be able to fix you."
"No one's getting fixed," Andy said. "He's just fine how he is." She looked at him and saw contentment in his eyes at her statement.
He smiled, and Andy smiled back.
Finally, the pressure was off.
