Chapter 21

All was silent in the car, apart from the whirring of the engine and the wheels bumping on the road. Andy and Edward sat awkwardly in the back of the woman's car, wondering if they had made a wise decision.
"Please tell us who you are." Andy said quietly. She watched the woman glance at her from the mirror.
"I'll explain everything once we get there." The woman said defiantly, gripping the steering wheel tighter.
Andy shrugged and thought nothing could be worse than what had already happened to her, so she didn't really mind. She looked at Edward who was nervously surveying the interior of the car, trying not to stab the seat in front of him. It made Andy aware of her own hands, and she realised she had poked a little hole in the lady's leather car seat.
Oh well, she thought, if she didn't want this to happen she'd have thought twice about inviting us into her car.
They pulled up outside one of the houses that had kept its slightly strange colours from decades ago. Most of the houses in the neighbourhood had moved on from that stage, but evidently this one had not.
The woman got out of the car and almost forgot that they couldn't open doors. She hurriedly opened Andy's and she stumbled out onto the footpath beside the road.
The woman then opened Edwards door and he rose slowly. He turned to face the house and his eyes widened. The lady didn't notice his slight change of expression, but Andy did.
"What? What's wrong?" Andy ran up to him, guiding him after the woman.
"I've been here before," he said with dread in his voice.
"I thought you would remember," the lady said without looking at them. "It was a long time ago, but my Grandmother said you wouldn't forget her."
