Do Not Love the Darkness

The darkness, it seems,
Has a sort of gravitational pull;
It can make room in your heart
Just when it was feeling most full.

We tend to lean towards the dark
For reasons that are unknown.
Though we fear it, we cannot control
Our penchant for settling rather than being alone.

Do not love the darkness,
It will only break your heart—
Seep through your skin, muscles and veins
Just to get to the good part.

Like a black hole, it will suck in
Just about everything that you've ever cared for,
One simple kiss from the darkness
And you will not live, for sure.

Enveloping, luring,
It can only get much worse
Once you see just how many others
Have fallen under Darkness's curse.

Do not love the darkness
For it is not your friend—
It cannot love you back,
Nor can it ever help you mend.
