Our Reading Lists
Here's a detailed description of each sub-genre on our reading list:
Cyberpunk:
• What we Look For: Stories set in a dark, futuristic world with lots of advanced technology. Think about hackers, big corporations controlling everything, and a mix of high-tech gadgets with gritty, rundown cities.
• What Doesn't Fit: Stories set in the past or ones that focus on magic without any technology.
Sci-Fantasy:
• What we Look For: Stories that mix science fiction with fantasy elements. You might find spaceships alongside dragons or robots using magic.
• What Doesn't Fit: Pure science fiction with no magical elements or pure fantasy with no technology.
Dystopocalyse (Dystopian & Apocalypse stories):
• What we Look For: Stories about worlds that have gone bad, like after a big disaster or where the government is very controlling and harsh. Think about survival in tough conditions.
• What Doesn't Fit: Happy, idealistic worlds or stories that are set in peaceful, thriving societies.
Space & Aliens:
• What we Look For: Stories that take place in outer space. This can include space travel, alien planets, ALIENS, & adventures around the stars/solar system.
• What Doesn't Fit: Stories set only on Earth or without any space travel.
Virus & Zombies:
• What we Look For: Stories about deadly viruses, pandemics, & zombie outbreaks. Think about how people survive when a virus spreads or when zombies attack.
• What Doesn't Fit: Stories without any virus or zombie elements, or ones that don't focus on survival against these threats.
Steampunk:
• What we Look For: Stories set in a world with old-fashioned steam-powered technology, often mixed with Victorian-era styles. Think of steam engines, airships, & clockwork gadgets.
• What Doesn't Fit: Stories with modern or futuristic technology that isn't steam-powered or ones set outside of a Victorian-like era.
Diverse Lit/Sci-fi Stories:
• What we Look For: Science fiction stories that focus on characters from diverse backgrounds, including different races, cultures, and experiences.
• What Doesn't Fit: Stories that don't highlight diverse perspectives.
General Sci-Fi Stories:
• What we Look For: Stories that focus on advanced technology, artificial intelligence, robots, and other futuristic ideas. These can include new inventions, smart machines, and how technology affects people's lives.
• What Doesn't Fit: Stories without any advanced technology or those that focus more on fantasy elements.
Time Travel:
• What we Look For: Stories where characters can move to the past or the future using some kind of machine or magical portal. These stories often mention how changing events in one time period can affect another.
• What Doesn't Fit: Stories that stay in one time period without any time travel or ones that focus on other kinds of travel like space or dimensions.
LitRPG:
• What we Look For: Stories where characters are inside a video game or a world with game-like rules. They might level up, gain skills, and face quests or challenges.
LGBTQIAP+ / SciFi Stories:
• What we Look For: Science Fiction Stories that focus on characters from the LGBTQIAP+ community.
