Chapter 5

(Christine's POV)
The first meeting for the drama club came.
Finally!
I was really impatient and each day went by slow until the calendar showed September 14th.

The entirety of us gathered on the stage to meet our drama club teacher.
Her name was Madame Giry and she was Meg's mother.

The chatter immediately calmed down as she came with Meg by her side and Becky, our president, on the other.

"Dear students!" Madame Giry quieted the very few who were still talking. "We welcome you to this year's drama club. If you didn't know, my name is Madame Giry and I will be your coach and director of the play that will take part sometime this year. I would also like to introduce your new president, Becky Evans. She will help you when I won't be available."
Becky smiled at the crowd and we clapped for her.

"Now, since our play will contain singing, I would like to know your vocal range. However, there is one problem. You see, our pianist quit his job this morning and we don't have anyone to play the piano for us. Does someone of you know how to play the piano?"

I nervously looked around myself for someone to raise their hand.

"I know how to play." I heard the most beautiful voice once again. I saw Erik come forth to Madame Giry and she looked him over.

"Okay, then show us something you can play." Giry said gesturing to the piano.

The tall masked boy sat on the bench and positioned his long fingers over the keys.
He started playing out of nowhere, without notes. My mouth hung open (just as everybody else's) as he finished the piece without even thinking over any of his moves over the black and white tiles.

He turned around and scanned the crowd with his eyes. The eyes I could forever look into.

"Did I do something wrong?" He asked looking at Madame Giry.

Madame Giry's jaw also hung open and she babbled out: "That was amazing."

"Thank you..." Erik thanked her and nervously smiled.
"And you can take a break for a while I will help you with the vocal ranges." He offered his help.

Madame Giry thought this over, but agreed to leave the work with the scales onto Erik.

I waited for about ten minutes until my turn came.
As I came closer to the piano, my heart was beating faster and faster.

'Stop being nervous, Christine! You will just sing a few tones and Erik will tell you your vocal range. It's as easy as it can be!' I thought to myself.

I took my spot next to the piano and got into the pose I always stood in when I sang. My eyes escaped to look at Erik and he gave me a friendly smile.

I sang higher and higher tone each time and when I came to the highest I knew I could go, I started to go even higher.
The tones that emitted from my mouth were unknown to me. I never heard anyone sing as high as I did.

I stopped when I couldn't go higher. Erik's jaw was dropped this time as he looked at me with amazement.
"Soprano."
Was the only thing he whispered.

"Um..." I mumbled as I felt my cheeks turning red. I looked to the ground and silently thanked.

The rest of the day went by and as I exited the drama club room, a hand gently tapped my left shoulder.

It was Erik. I felt like a swarm of butterflies raced through my inside as I turned to face him.

Why do I feel like this each time I see him?

Suddenly realizing my face tuned the color of red roses, I looked at the tips of my shoes.

"I am sorry if I behaved kind of strangely around you." He said with a nervous look on his face.

"Nothing happened. Actually, where did you get to learn to play so good?" I asked curiously.

"I suppose I just picked it up as I played the piano which I have at home."

"Don't tell me that you never got tutored by anyone..." I told him surprised, sticking my pointer finger into my mouth to mask the fact I couldn't hold it shut.

"What if I told you I didn't?" He asked carefully, his golden eyes questioning me.

"Then I would faint right here and someone would have to wake me up." I said, the second half with a little sarcastic tone.

"Then I rather won't say anything." He whispered and I giggled in the same volume that he spoke a second earlier.

"Could you show me how you play sometime again?' I asked a small smile stretched across my powdered face, my eyes begging to hear the three letter answer.

"Yes. I could. What if tomorrow?"

I happily nodded and my clumsy body lost it's balance and I fell straight onto my butt. I gave Erik one nervous grin as he neared me to help me.

"Don't worry, I'm fine." I got up and smoothed my dark blue skirt.

"I'm glad you didn't get hurt this time."

Those words parted our ways home.
