Her Lie
I sit next to Wilson before anyone else arrives. He asks, closing a notebook, "you're here already?"
"Whatcha writing?" I inquire.
"I am not going on another jumpy, childish tangent," he sighs, "besides it's a first draft."
"Oh come on," I nudge him with my elbow, "it's cute."
"What it is is embarrassing," he replies, "look, it... it's something I try to hide. Can we talk about something else?"
"Yeah actually I'm still a little confused," I admit, "we are together?"
"More or less," Wilson shrugs, "at least, for cuddles I guess. Who doesn't like cuddles? I mean, I do have feelings for ya. So let's just keep going and whatever happens, happens."
I kiss his cheek, chuckling, "works for me."
Henry arrives and sits with a grin, "what you two cooking up? Get it cause we're in a resteraunt?"
"Not much," I shrug, "so what you ordering?"
"I'm getting the steak duh," Henry replies, "what about you guys?"
"Steak," Wilson replies.
"Pie!" I exclaim.
Henry and Wilson look at me.
"I like pie," I shrug.
"We can have pie but you can't eat just pie," Wilson replies.
"Well I'm gonna take the ribs," I explain.
"Hey guys," Shelby greets as she sits next to Henry.
"What's up?" Wilson high fives her.
"Sup' sis?" Henry smiles giving her a side hug.
"Is this everyone?" I ask.
"There's still Beth," Wilson reminds.
"I'm glad you're making friends," Henry smiles.
"Yeah," Wilson smiles, "so am I."
Beth arrives last, greeting everyone, "what's up guys?"
"Not much," Wilson smiles at her, offering her the seat on his other side, "we all ready to order?"
Everyone nods and we order, chatting about little, simple things as we wait. Like T.V. shows and video games and the like until our food arrives. Wilson takes a deep breath, before standing, just before I'm able to take a bite and explains, "I do need to get something off my chest."
Everyone turns to face him as he speaks, myself included, as Wilson's expression becomes incredibly nervous and kinda sad. He sighs before he begins, "my whole life, since I was very young, ten if I recall, my knew my parents were scumbags. I grew up in a redneck Hell and I didn't have anyone. I was... alone. Then I found my sister. On the Fourth of July however, she started drinking and I lost her. My sister was the person I loved most in the world and now I can't even look at her. Yet now, I have you guys. I want you all to know if any of you need anything at all, just ask. It's a bit soon for me to feel this way, but, I love you all like family. Not you though," He points at me, "that'd be incest. I'm not saying we ARE family, that's kinda rushing into things, but I care about you all. OK?"
Everyone just silently nods. Henry inquires, "so if you have a problem does this mean you'll accept our help?"
Wilson laughs responding, "that's funny!" Wilson's expression suddenly becomes dead serious, "no. I help others. You don't help me. That's how things work."
"But why?" Shelby demands.
"My sister helped me," Wilson replies, "look how she ended up."
Everyone falls silent, unsure what to say. He does seem deeply hurt by the loss of his sister, but such backwards logic is... well bullshit!
"OK well listen to this," I demand standing up, "You need help. I'm putting my foot down. We all are."
I look at everyone else. Please! Please just play along like we planned this! If you care about him please!
"Yeah," Shelby adds, "dude you can't just keep throwing yourself into every problem you find. You're not some martyr."
"And you see that's the problem," Wilson sighs, "I'm only human. I can't save everyone. That's all the more reason to try."
"OK I'm saying the ultimatum," Henry glares, "if you care about us let us help you when you have a problem or we leave."
I shake my head rapidly. To far! Go back!
"She said that too," Wilson chuckles, "if that's what you guys really want, OK, but don't expect me to need help often."
"Do you need any help with anything right now?" I ask.
Wilson shakes his head with a smile, and explains, "why would I? I got my friends, and my steak. I have everything I want, right here."
I sigh with relief, as he sits back down munching on his side of fries. He inquires, "so do any of you guys watch that new anime? The Guardians?"
"Yeah actually," Shelby replies, "I hate how the main love interest of the protagonist has to deal with the protag's bullshit..."
I turn to look at the soffacated figure behind me. Much like myself, but blue in the face, pitch black eyes.
...
Fuck I forgot my meds!
Many may think I shouldn't be on meds, but the meds don't leave permanent effects on the brain. If I stop taking them, there's a sort of adjustment period and then it's as if I never took them at all. Which is why I have to stay on them. There's a common misconception that it permanently changes and effects the brain. All those meds for mental illnesses. Now there are like five exceptions, so if one's going on these meds, better safe than sorry, but for the most part that's not true. However I'm still in deep shit right now.
"What?" I whisper, annoyed.
"Oh just you hiding the truth like a little bitch," she chuckles, "you know, about the weapon."
"We don't talk about her," I glare.
"It's your fault she snapped," the hallucination laughs, "your fault she died! Wasn't she your girlfriend? Wasn't it your responsibility to protect her? She's a lot like him isn't she? Protecting others at all costs. I wonder how long until he dies too?"
"You OK?" Wilson asks, startling me with a hand on my shoulder. I just, hug him.
"You're not gonna kill yourself to protect right?" I ask.
Wilson shakes his head, "no. I promise all of you. I'll take care of myself..."
