(( mabel ))
"No, don't go, no please no..." Mabel mumbled tirelessly in her sleep.
She was cruising in a car, with someone on the wheel. She was strapped down by the seatbelt, she couldn't move. They were travelling at literally rocket speed.
She struggled to get out, but she couldn't. She just couldn't.
Then, it came.
Not far away, she saw a certain familiar someone. And she was crashing into him.
It was over as soon as it came.
Crash.
There was an abrupt halt, jerking Mabel awake. She let out a scream from the sudden impact.
Her eyes were wide open, she was panting heavily.
The place she was in was so bright, so white, so blinding.
Her head felt dizzy, drowsy. The world was in a blur again. Her head was foggy, her eyelids heavy. She heard the flurry of lab coats, before she went out again...
---
After pitch blackness, she felt her eyes slowly open. She awoke again, after her brief pass-out and the first thing she saw was a clock with red digital numbers.
She felt the usual dizziness again and tried to steady herself, waiting for it to pass.
Then, she rested her eyes on the clock. And her eyes widened when she realised what it was counting.
It was counting down the hours.
12:07:34
12:07:33
12:07:32
Why is it counting down?
There was still 12 hours remaining before the timer ends.
What is going to happen after that?
She looked around, and saw Bill lying on the bed next to hers.
He was in a worse state than her. Mabel had the freedom to move her head, but his head was bounded strictly by a head cast.
So was his body. And a leg held up high with another cast.
He sacrificed so much for me...
She felt her vision getting blurry.
Then, she looked at her own body, and her own injuries.
What a sharp contrast. There was literally none on her.
Clean.
Could she get up? She tried, and after much difficulty, she got up.
The beeping of the monitor was constant against the background. The feeling of dejá vü was very strong.
She remembered about the time she was depressed because of the same person.
It has been so long since that happened.
Looking at the motionless body in front of her, she willed herself falling, her emotions crumbling...
It pained her to see him lying at this state. And it was all her fault.
She sat next to him, looking around.
The timer was still counting down.
What is happening??
The timer was so contrasting against the white background. It looks almost angelic.
Was it just her imagination? Was she hallucinating all this?
There were wide open windows at the side of the room, pouring out beams of white light.
The curtains were pure white, the colour of clouds. There was a vase on the white marble tabletop with white jasmine flowers.
She stood up, quavering slightly, and looked at her white dress.
Then she looked back again. He was wearing a white gown as well.
She looked at the door. It was also white. Outside the window, she realised it was also overflowing with white light.
Something inside her clicked. This isn't a hospital ward, where were the nurses? Or doctors?
She looked around once more, and at the timer.
8:05:59
Since when did time pass so quickly?
Walking to the vase at the tabletop, she picked a jasmine flower. Was it real?
As if on cue, the flower wilted in Mabel's touch. She gasped and looked into the vase.
She screamed.
Red, flowing liquid swirled inside the interior of the white flower vase.
Blood.
This isn't right. This isn't right at all.
She ran to the door and opened it.
Foolish. She was too foolish.
This escalated really quickly, but there is definitely no going back now.
