All around the world the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (HCMR) is well known for the ceremonial duties it fulfils in London, guarding the queen and taking part in many important occasions such as the yearly opening of the parliament in spring.

Stunning many tourists and Brits, horses have to endure noises, such as crowds cheering on the wedding of the duke and duchess of Sussex.

Therefore it is interesting to take a closer look at the regiment's history in dealing with horses and to compare it to conditions and their handling of their animals – which is the reason why the active military part of the HCMR and the wars it has fought will be neglected.
