Chapter 14
Thanks so much to Stars-INsight for making another beautiful cover for another one of my books
It felt like hours had passed since those two men left Jungkook on his own in the lounge. I was still standing in that gap in the wall, my bones frozen to the core. No matter how many times I repeated that conversation in my head, I couldn't understand a single bit of it. They were talking about Chau, the events of the bonfire lined up as they discussed it. She was almost raped and that is really serious. Those two men said that it was Jungkook's job to protect Chau, and the way he ran into the scene and snapped on Jongin, he was taking his job to heart, like his life depended on it. He literally beat his head into the dirt, not letting up on his punches at all. He didn't care if he bruised and cut his hands, he just kept going until Jin Hyung and Hoseok had to pull him off. His violent demeanour changed within an instant when his gaze fell upon Chau; he was drowning in his own guilt and sorrow. He was literally about to cry as he cupped her cheeks, trying to wake her up. The two men were absolutely right, Jungkook cared deeply about her.
"Hyung."
That sudden voice made me jump in the small space, one of the rarest times I get scared.
"Yoongi Hyung, come out please," Jungkook continued. "They're gone."
I was perplexed as to how Jungkook knew I was here, much less see me come down this way. I thought I was pretty quiet while walking down the hallway, and blended into the shadows quite well, I mean I snuck up on Jackson without him noticing. Jungkook looked like he was really focussed on his friends to even see me. However, now that he knows I'm here, I have no choice but to step out and confront him about that whole situation. Stepping out into the hall, I looked at my little brother, meeting his eyes that were staring right back at me. I saw it, that same flame of guilt burning in his black eyes. He posture was relaxed, which was odd seeing how I caught him talking about Chau.
"How did you know I was here?" I asked quietly, walking up to him.
"I just felt it," he chuckled sadly.
Jungkook turned around, sitting on one of the couches behind him. Once he sat down, he looked like a defeated man, resting his head on his hand. My dongsaeng was exhausted, most likely from worrying over Chau and talking to his Hyungs. Frowning, I waddled over to him, sitting on the table in front of him. Leaning forward, I rested my forearms on my thighs and clasped my hands together.
I needed answers.
"Jungkook-" I spoke but was interrupted.
"I know Hyung, you want answers," he jumped in.
I was taken aback by his quick understanding. It was probably from my body language where he got that hint. But what were the chances of him telling me? He was an agent for some sort of organization, he had to have some rules or something.
"Yeah, I do," I nodded.
Jungkook sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I'm sorry Hyung, but I'm under restrictions," Jungkook scowled softly. "It's for Chau's protection."
"I figured..." I mumbled. "But it's okay, I understand."
A moment of silence filled the two of us as we sat in front of each other. I couldn't pry into Jungkook's job, it would put him in danger, and it could put Chau in danger. It's safer for the two of them if I just leave things as the way they are. The last thing I would want for them if for the two of them getting seriously hurt. I accept that Jungkook in under privacy restrictions and can't tell me anything, he has to follow the rules of whatever organization he's working for.
"Jungkook?"
"Yes, Hyung?" Jungkook answered.
"Promise me something," I begged, earning a nod from him. "I know you care a lot about Chau, so do I. I care for her like a little sister, but you, you like her."
Jungkook stood up form his seat, looking at me with widened eyes. There was no point in him trying to hide it, the blush across his face was incredibly bright. He tried to deny it to the best of his abilities, but he kept stuttering his words like an idiot in love. I smirked, grabbing his wrist and pulling him back down onto his couch.
"You do like Chau, stop telling yourself otherwise," I chuckled. "But anyways, I'm asking you as Jungkook, my little brother, not as an agent. Take care of Chau, never leave her side, be there when she needs someone. Now, I'm not experienced in romantic relationships, but I do know, and I'm sure you know this better than me, but she honestly does need someone to love her, love her in a way she deserves."
Jungkook looked at me with those signature bunny eyes of his, sparkling with adoration. A gummy smile grew in my lips, seeing my dongsaeng mood light up. I couldn't be mad at him, he liked Chau much more than a client, than a friend. Jungkook loved Chau, it was evident in his eyes, every time he looked at her. I had a feeling he was going to confess to her in his car, and I was going to stop the others from bothering them, but Hoseok jumped onto their windshield, stopping Jungkook. Sure it's only been a week since they met each other, but it was love at first sight in a sense, despite Jungkook's bad mood that day.
"Promise me that you will care for her with all your heart, and always protect her," I carried on. "None of us want to lose her, we don't want her to leave us, and have some stranger look after her. I know you don't want that either. So please, do your job, but don't treat it as just some assignment, take it to heart."
I held up my pinky towards him, waiting for him to make a pinky promise. Sure it was childish, but we have been doing this for years and we have always kept our promises. Jungkook smiled softly, wrapping his pinky around mine. We pressed our thumbs together, completing the promise.
"I promise Hyung," Jungkook said firmly. "But promise me something too."
"Of course."
"Promise me that this conversation stays between us as well as the one between my Hyungs and I. Chau doesn't know that we're doing this for her, and I'm afraid if she finds out I lied to her to protect her, she'll hate me. After this is over and Chau is safe, I want to love her like I met her naturally, not by some mission."
"The good lie?" I asked delicately.
"Yes Hyung," he nodded. "The good lie."
Sorry, I published chapter 15 too soon, that's for tomorrow
