Have heard it enough times now
Most believe it to be true
That wishing a long life to someone
Is the right thing to do.

It is repeated like a ritual
In birthdays and programs few
But is the meaning ever understood?
Do they even think it through?

These wished are piled on someone
Who achieves great heights and success
And it is because of these prayers
That they can steadily progress.

But they also heap it all on the people
With trembling hands and a body too weak
Why do you want to put them in more misery
When they can hardly stand and barely speak?

Maybe it is right for someone
Who actually wants to live and explore
But what about those broken shells
That genuinely don't want to exist anymore?

An extended life is a boon to some
Who are willing to struggle and remain
But those who suffer unknowingly
They think of it as a strain.

Though it would certainly be peaceful
To escape and have the last call
But ponder over everything for a second
Is going away really worth it all?

It is a paradox quite incomprehensible
Nobody can say what's better or worse
All have different versions of whether
Long life is a blessing or a curse?
