I got you, kid
It's random, but I'm really in the mood for the whole rescue at last second thing lol. It won't be a long story.
Description: Peter gets a little more than banged up in a patrol. It's a good thing that Ironman is around.
Note: set after Civil War (resolved). Only Ned knows.
Okay, onto the story.
Third POV
It had been a long, hard day for Peter Parker. He was accidentally an hour early to school, he forgot his lunch, he had two tests, Ned had to leave half way through the day for a dentist appointment meaning he was alone for his last few classes, and to top it off he accidentally missed the subway home meaning he had to walk. All this, and it's only Tuesday.
Oh, yeah, and he just got caught in an explosion.
Peter clenches his teeth, leaving heavily on the whatever next to him as his left side pulses with pain. He has no idea how he survived that blast, or if he'll stay survived.
It's like the universe was really out exercising the Parker luck today! He thought he'd be able to use his patrol as a way to relax, to get rid of his frustrations and unwind. But no!
To be fair, it started off well! He caught a shoplifter, chased a runaway dog down, caught a kids ice-cream before it could fall, and all without a scratch!
But then it all changed.
*earlier*
"Woo-hoo!" Peter cheered as he effortlessly swung through Queens, a bunch of people below cheering. He does a flip and lets go of his web, leading on top of a billboard and now on the look out for the next task.
It's dark now; Peter knows more crime will be on the way.
Sure enough, Karen (the A.I in his suit, courtesy of Tony Stark) speaks up. "Reports have just come in of a break in at an apartment complex a few blocks from here, would you like to—"
"Yeah, yeah show the way!" Peter interrupts energetically. A building is highlighted yellow in the distance and he takes off towards it, Karen explaining which level the break in is reportedly occurring.
Having Karen makes patrol go a lot smoother, he can't believe he got by without her before! Peter would thank Mr Stark, but he hasn't spoken to Tony in quite a while, since the Civil War wrapped up. He leaves messages with Happy but never hears back, Peter tries not to let it get him down because he knows they all live very busy lives and maybe Mr Stark hasn't been able to respond.
"Alright, lets see what's happening!" Peter declares as he climbs up the building. He can hear police sirens in the distance, but he has no way of knowing how far off they are or if they're even coming here, so he doesn't wait around.
Karen guides him to the correct window and for once he doesn't have to bust through because it's already open a little. He hops into the room, some kind of office, and looks around. It's empty, so they must not be in this room. He moves through.
The next room has a civilian, hiding under a desk. "Where are they?" Peter whispers. The man points to a room opposite and Peter gives a thumbs up, telling the civilian to head towards the exit as he pursues the criminals.
There's four guys, dressed in dark clothes with many weapons in holsters. They're going through the files cabinet.
"What cha looking for?" Peter announces his presence after a few seconds of silence. They turn to see him leaning on the door frame. "If it's love notes, I don't think you're gonna find them!"
They whip out their weapons, scowling. "Leave us alone!" One snaps a warning.
Peter taps a finger on his masked chin, pretending to think. "Nah!"
They open fire. Peter's senses go off, he's able to dodge the bullets pretty easily. "C'mon, guys! We could talk it out!" He fires a taser web at one, shocking him and stealing the gun. A few more seconds pass, involving several bullets, swear words and sarcastic quips. It ends with two guys being webbed together at a desk, one hanging from the ceiling and one running off.
Peter, of course, ensures the criminals are secure before chasing after him. "Come back, I just wanna talk!" He laughs, following the sounds of the guys footsteps across the building and into another room.
"Peter," Karen warns. "I'm detecting—"
They guy walks into view, holding some kind of box. "I was just waiting for you to catch up!"
Peter realises, with horror, what the man is holding. It's a detonation button. His Spidey senses are going crazy. What he assumes is the bomb is sitting on the desk to his left. Oh, no! What do I do?!
"Wait, man, you don't have to—" he rushes to try and de escalate the situation, but the man just gives him a mocking laugh, and presses the button.
Peter leaps forward. The bomb explodes.
*Meanwhile, with Tony*
"Yeah, so I was hoping this deal could unite our company's and—"
Tony wasn't really trying to listen to the man talking to him, to be honest. He has no interest in listening to a man blabbering about false promises and ambitions to bring Stark Industries into a partnership.
"Yeah, yeah, sounds horrible." Tony finally blurts, "don't take it up with Pepper Potts. We don't care."
He walks away from the suddenly shocked man, hiding a smirk as he grabs a drink from a passing host. Now, to find Pepper and pester her to leave. He thinks, navigating through the crowd and returning greetings as he goes, besides, she's lucky I even agreed to come to this meeting. I'd much rather be in my lab, he roles his eyes, dodging around another man pitching his idea, but no, I'm stuck in some random meeting.
"Pepper, there you are!" He cheers, finally finding her outside talking to a group of people next to a wanted fountain. To be honest, Tony didn't even realise Queens had places like this. He'd not admit it out loud, but it's nice. Not as nice as his properties, of course.
"Ah, Tony," Pepper smiles at him, she seems stressed. "Fantastic."
"So, how are we looking?" He asks, straight up ignoring the other people. "Can I call a car?"
"Tony, we've been here for an hour."
"Yeah, that's plenty of time! Besides we've—"
He's cut off by an apartment building erupting into smoke, and light, and debris. He immediately looks at Pepper, "can—"
"Go," she sighs but speaks quickly, "Go. Be careful."
He steps into Mark 46, he'd left the case with Pepper. Well, she didn't let him take it with him cause "you'll cause a scene, we're here to keep up appearances, not steal the spotlight".
As soon as he's in, he takes off towards the explosion sight.
"There was a police call detailing a break in on the floor only minutes before the explosion," Friday explains as they approach.
"Scan for heat signatures," Tony orders as he comes close. The explosion hasn't taken up the whole floor, but about half of it. Which means it's more then likely people have gotten caught up.
"Several bodies found to your right, no heartbeats detected. But there's a heat signature a few metres to your left," Friday advises. Tony hurries over and pulls debris off, finding a man conscious but in pain.
"Is there anyone else?" Tony asks the man, flying him out of the building and down to the ground.
"S-Spider-man went after the bad guys," the man splutters, coughing violently. "He... he t-told me to g-go, I sh...I should've listened."
Tony freezes. "Spider-man is here?!" The man nods, obviously shaken. Tony steps back as the police come forward and lead the man to safety.
"Track him," Tony orders as he shoots up into the air again, a bad feeling in his stomach. Only the kid would get caught up in an explosion.
*Meanwhile, with Peter*
He knows Karen is speaking to him, of course she would, but he can't hear her over the ringing in his ears and can't concentrate enough to try. Dust is everywhere around him, and in his lungs. He's struggling to push air in and out. There's fire too, it's getting hot. He walks blindly around in search for anyone alive (that bad guy is very dead), the back of his mind telling him that's a dumb idea but he's not really listening to common sense. Or any sense.
So he stumbles forward, the air becoming clearer. He takes a deep breath in, hoping to calm down enough to string together a coherent thought, but it hurts. So. Badly. Peter decides to stick to shallow breaths for now. If he was fully conscious he'd laugh at that pun.
He squints, the dust has cleared enough for him to see open sky in front of him. He's pretty sure a wall is supposed to be there. I guess that's what happens in explosons.
"—ter, you need to move away from the area." Karen's voice breaks through.
"K—," he goes to speak but a coughing fit interrupts him. He bends over, clutching at a wooden beam with one hand tightly as he coughs. His other hand comes away red. He hopes he's just seeing things, but something tells him he's not—whether that he the light headed ness or the pain at his side and in his throat, he tears the mask off, desperate for more air as another coughing fit occurs.
"Kid!"
That didn't sound like Karen.
He looks up, panting. Iron Man is flying towards him. He pauses, confused.
"Mr Stark?" He mutters, before his world fades to black and he tilts forward.
*With tony*
As soon as he gets the coordinates, Tony flies there as fast as possible. When he gets there, having to manoeuvre through falling debris, smoke and dust, he sees a small figure on the edge of the building.
"Kid?" He calls, hoping he's alright, but he doesn't respond. "Kid!"
Finally, Peter looks up at him, mask in hand. "Mr Stark?" He chokes. Tony watches in horror as his eyes roll back and he tilts forward.
"NO!" Tony angles down and flies after him. Thankfully, thankfully, he reaches the kid and wraps his arms around him, shooting away from the ground. He tries not to think of what could've happened. What would've happened.
Peter stirs in his arms. "Mr Stark?!"
"I got you, kid." Tony assures him shakily, because it's the only thing he can say. It's probably a good thing, because right after that Peter falls back unconscious in his arms.
God, this kid is going to give him grey hairs!
And there we go. I'd suggest a part two but idk what else could be said, we all know Peter will be fine. Probably.
Anyway, sorry for any errors. I didn't really proofread it.
Bye.
