Slice of Victory

Rui
I roared every day now. I used to never do it, but now I must, if my plan is to work. It sounded weak at first, but it's grown much stronger in the past two days. I sent out my invisible eyes, following her. She kept trying to come to me, but every time she managed to get away a boy she called DJ would bring her back to a house and make sure she didn't leave. He wanted her to rest as much as possible before the Battle. If he would only let her answer my call, there wouldn't even be a battle. I roared again, pacing as far as my shackles allowed. Back and forth, back and forth.
'Would you stop that?!' Pharaoh finally exclaimed after watching me for several hours. 'It's making me dizzy.'
'Yeah, yeah,' I mumbled. 'But I've been trying to get Makailah to come, and she's being stopped every time. It makes me anxious.'
'You mean worried.'
'I mean anxious.'
'You mean worried.'
'I mean anxious.'
'Oh, shut up, will you? I've almost got my shackles off,' Shiloh said, grunting. 'Got it!'
'Ooo, me next!' Pharaoh exclaimed excitedly.
'I have to get the doors open first, genius,' Shiloh growled.
I snorted. 'I need to be out more than he does. My escaping means the girl gets healed, which means the humans will probably trust me enough to make sure dragons don't kill any humans. So basically, our lives will be eternally improved.'
'He makes a good argument, Pharaoh,' Shiloh pointed out as he turned his claw in the lock of his bars, hopping out and running to my cell, unlocking it and tugging at my shackles. 'Ugh! I can't get them off!'
'Come get me out and I can help!' Pharaoh called.
'That's actually a really good idea.' Shiloh raced across the aisle and popped the Salamander's bars up. In a few moments he managed to slide Pharaoh's shackles off. The pair of small dragons raced back across the aisle and began pulling on my shackles simultaneously.
'Thanks,' I said once they had managed to remove the fireproof chains.
They nodded before releasing the only other dragon in our unit, an angry and quiet Lilac whose name was Violet, which we had learned after bothering her for several weeks. She reluctantly thanked us before insisting we find They. I agreed, while Shiloh and Pharaoh grumbled as they joined us.
After a few precious minutes of searching, we found her section and released her from her bonds. There were two other Newts in that section, and we released them so they could unlock the bars of the rest of the dragons and slide their shackles off. We had learned through trial and error that only Newts' claws would work in the locks.
'Rui, do you have a plan?' Violet asked.
'Indeed I do,' I growled, picking up my pace and slamming into the thick oak door with my un-burnt side. As we jumped over the splintered wood, They glanced at my burnt scales several times.
'What happened to you?' She asked, concerned.
'Morris,' I hissed. 'He stripped my scales in some sort of symbol and poured lava on it as punishment for almost burning him to a crisp when he hit you.'
They nodded, guilt glinting in her sky blue eyes as we slithered through the halls cautiously. When we finally reached the door that led to the outside world, to our freedom, I stopped for a moment and silently thanked Genesis for letting me find a way out, thanked her for They, thanked her for Shiloh, and thanked her for Pharaoh and even Violet. Just as we were leaving, pattering sounded behind us and I turned to see a small Buttercup skid to a halt at my feet, no more than two years old.

'I'm Amalia, and they sent me to let you know everyone's unchained and are making their way out in small groups. Also, my mother said I'd have a better life if I went with you guys.' She gasped, catching her breath.
'Well, come on then,' I said after pausing for a moment. Amalia grinned before starting to follow the others out the door, but she stopped, her ears twitching. I turned, a growl rising in my throat. Four Guards rounded the corner, all grasping spears. I didn't have much fire left, so I waited for them to get in range and swiped, knocking over two of them. The others continued their charge fearlessly, and I shoved Amalia out the door behind me before swiping the other two Guards and following the small yellow dragon out into the open. I stared at the village down the hill.
'Now we just have to find Makailah and heal her.'
