Chapter One: Annabeth

When you are born, you are born with a soul mate. And at a certain age, you begin to feel what they feel. And later, anything that happens to them, you feel. If they get a scar, so do you. Until you meet them, it's hard to separate what is them, from what is you.

Nico would know as much. He started feeling randomly happy one day, and smiled a lot. His friends asked him what was going on and he frowned. Saying that he didn't know. Then, his friend Leo, who had started feeling the effect of his soul mate two years before, had smiled and said, 'Maybe it's his soul mate!' Everyone had grinned and nodded. Now, Nico was constantly happy and he couldn't wait to meet his soul mate.

Leo was happy all the time as well, though, he began to become obsessed with gardening where before he had never cared for anything but his machines and projects.

Piper became more of a leader. She stood up for herself more and was more assertive and responsible.

Hazel didn't change, really, but she said that she could feel her soul mate in her mind. Some times, she would get bruises and realized that her soul mate must have been clumsy, because of those, and from the fact that she became clumsy as well.

But Annabeth's soul mate was affecting her negatively. She could feel how sad he was, how hurt he was. She would wake up in the morning and see new scars on her arms from where he cut himself, and bruises from where he had been hit. She became more depressed and more easily agitated. All her friends were worried for her.

-----------------

"Annabeth, how is he?" Hazel asked when Ananbeth walked up to their usual table in the Cafe. Annabeth shook her head and pulled up her sleeve, showing the five new cut marks on her arm from her soul mate. She teared up as she sat down, bowing her head and taking a deep breath.

"I-I can feel him getting sadder. I feel how he's just about ready to give up. Hazel, he wants to die. He's thinking of plans to commit suicide. The only reason he hasn't done it yet is because he knows it would break his mother. I can feel it, Hazel, and I hate it. There's nothing I can do for him. I don't know how to stop him, how to make him feel better." Annabeth was sobbing now, her head in her hands. Hazel quickly stood up and ran into the table trying to get to her friend's side as fast as she could. She muttered something and stumbled over the rest of the way, sitting down in the booth next to Annabeth. Putting a hand on her shoulder, Hazel tried to think of something she could say to comfort her friend. Then Annabeth gasped and threw herself up. "He's done. He's over the edge. He's going to do it! I-I have to stop him! What can I do!?" She sobbed. Then her eyes widened and Hazel was shoved out of the way as she ran from the Cafe.

"Wha-" Hazel picked herself up off the floor and stared after her friend as she disappeared from view.

---------------

Annabeth ran into her apartment as she felt the boy she knew to be her soul mate make up his mind that he was going to kill himself. She snatched a pocket knife from the counter and threw herself into her bathroom, locking her door as she felt him pick up his own, ready to slit his throat. She felt him take a deep breath and bring the cold knife to his bare neck. She ripped off her shirt ans gritted her teeth, bringing the pocket knife down on her own arm, starting to carve sloppy letters into it. She felt him pause as he felt her do it and she knew he was glancing down at his arm, watching as the words she wrote formed.

Don't do it.

She stared at her arm and tried to ignore the biting sting from the cuts. She watched as new words formed on her arm, ones her soul mate wrote on his own, and ones he had thought regularly.

Why not?

She steadied her hand and began to carve more words into her flesh.

Tell me why you would.

She waited for a reply and completely ignored the blood on her arm that was dripping onto the floor.

No one wants me. No one loves me. I'm no one to anyone.

Annabeth felt him raise the knife to his throat again. She quickly switched hands and shakily carved more words into her other arm.

I do.

She felt him lower the knife again and stare at his arm in disbelief. She took his shock as an opening to quickly cut more words into her arm.

I want you. I love you. You are everything to me.

She held her breath as she waited for a reply. This time she felt the words being carved into his leg and quickly stood up, ignoring the light-headedness she got and quickly slipped off her jeans, staring at her right thigh.

Why? You don't even know me...

Annabeth pulled the blade across her leg until she had finished what she wanted to say.

I do know you. You are my soul mate. I'm yours. I've felt your pain, I see your scars every morning when I look in the mirror and when I get dressed. I see your scars everyday because they are also my scars. I feel your pain and it's my pain too. My name's Annabeth. What's yours?

She had taken up most of the space on her thigh writing that, and now there as blood all over the bathroom; the floor, the toilet, the sink, her arm, her hands, her leg.

But she didn't care. As long as she could stop her soul mate from doing this horrendous act.

Percy. My name is Percy.

The words appeared on her left leg this time and she smiled, finally being able to put a name to the boy whom's pain and scars she shared. She chose her next words carefully.

Will you meet me?

She waited with baited breath for a minute, feeling him hesitate.

Where?

She let out a sigh and thought of a place for her to meet the tortured soul that was her soul mate. Then she realized something.

I don't even know if we live anywhere near each other...

Percy responded quickly and Annabeth felt his usually depressed and sad mood raise into higher spirits.

I live in Manhattan.

Annabeth smiled.

I live by Long Island. Do you want to meet at Montauk in two days? Promise that you'll at least hold on until then?

Percy responded immediatly with new words crammed into the scarce space that was left on their legs.

I'd love too. I promise I'll be there.

Annabeth grinned from ear to ear, feeling the happiest she had ever felt. She glanced at her unblemished torso.

See you then. She carved into her side.

See you then!

Setting the pocket knife down on the sink, Annabeth unlocked the bathroom door, her ridiculously large smile still on her face, and walked out into her dorm room. Only to be met with Hazel pacing up and down the hallway. When the golden eyed girl saw Annabeth, she shrieked and her hand flew to her mouth. Her eyes filled with tears and Annabeth cocked an eyebrow in confusion.

"What's-" she glanced down at herself and realized why Hazel was so upset. "Oh. I guess I have some explaining to do, don't I?" She said, staring at her bare and bloody legs and bloody arms and hands as well as the cuts on her side. Hazel nodded vigourusly.

"But only after I've cleaned you up and gotten you all bandaged up. And after you've had a shower." Hazel ushered her back into the bathroom and gasped when she saw all the blood all over the floor, sink, and toilet seat. She took a deep breath. "I'll call Piper. I'll take you to her apartment and her and Thalia can help you while I clean this up." Hazel said. "Stay." She pointed to the middle of the bathroom floor and then walked away. Annabeth stood there. She pulled her pants and shirt back on, wincing as she did so. The pain of all the cuts finally getting to her, and so was the blood loss. She put her hand to her head and the other out to brace herself against the wall. She waited for her vision to clear and to stop feeling so light-headed and then she stood up straight again. Just then, Hazel walked back into the bathroom. She carefully grabbed Ananbeth's hand and guided her out of the bloody room and down the hall to the front door. Hazel opened the door and Annabeth trailed after her, closing the door and locking it before Hazel had dragged her away. The younger girl was moving at a fast pace that made Ananbeth's legs burn and sting. Her blood was starting to stain the fabric of her jeans and dark-blue shirt red.

Hazel stopped at the elevator and pressed the up button. Almost immediatly, the doors slid open and the chocolate-skinned girl pulled the blonde into it. She pressed the button for floor 20, five floors above their own, and the elevator doors slid closed with a ding. The numbers started counting up and Annabeth counted with them, tapping her foot with every ding.

They reached floor 20 and Hazel dragged Annabeth out of the elevator as soon as the the doors dinged open. Dragged down the hall, tears started to fall down Annabeth's cheeks, her legs and arms were killing her. Her side was on fire and her legs were doused in lava, her arms stung like she had burned herself on a stove top. She let out a small sob and Hazel glanced back at her. The girl's golden eyes filled with worry and she slowed her pace.

"Come on, we're almost there. It'll be okay." Annabeth nodded and bit her lip to stop from letting out another sob.

They reached apartment T208. Hazel knocked on the door and it flew open. Piper stood there, her eyes wide and scared, behind her was Thalia, also wide-eyed and freaked out.

"Annabeth!" Piper cried, grabbing the girl's hand carefully and pulling her into the apartment. "Come on, let's get you cleaned up and you can tell us everything that happened and why the hell you did this." Glancing at Hazel, Piper nodded her thanks and Hazel nodded back, turning around and heading back to her apartment to clean the bathroom.

"What the hell, Annabeth!?" Thalia cried as she led her best friend to the kitchen, tears in her eyes. Annabeth shook her head.

"I... It's... I just... Percy was going to kill himself. I had to do something." She pleaded. "I had to stop him."

Thalia paused and looked at her out of the side of her eyes. "Is Percy, him? Your soul mate?" Annabeth nodded. She looked at Thalia, her eyes broken and filled with tears.

"I couldn't let him do it, Thals. I had to do something to stop him. I couldn't let him do it." Thalia nodded and sat Annabeth down on a stool. Piper ran into the kitchen with bandages and hydrogen peroxide and other medical supplies that would be used to clean her up. Setting them down on the counter, Piper helped Annabeth out of her blood-soaked shirt and pants. Thalia got towels and cotton swabs ready to clean her cuts. Once the blonde was undressed, Thalia took the hydrogen peroxide and spilled it down Annabeth's leg, letting it bubble and holding Annabeth's hand as she winced and tried not to cry. After the hydrogen peroxide had stopped bubbling, the older girl took one of the towels and dabbed the liquid away. Then Piper took a roll of gauze and began to wrap it around the blonde's leg while Thalia cleaned the other one. Once the other leg was done, they moved onto her arms.

After she was all wrapped up and dressed in some of Piper's clothes, Thalia and Piper say down in chair they pulled over and asked for the whole story. So Annabeth explained. Hazel came back after an hour and Annabeth retold the story for her.

Two days later, Annabeth waited anxiously at Montauk beach for Percy to arrive, sitting on the sand and scrutinizing every boy that passed, scanning them under her grey eyes for any sign of the scars that she showed off prominently. She was wearing a tank top crop-top to show of the 'See you then' messages and the words and cuts on her arms. With a pair of shorts short enough that you could see the words carved into her thighs. No one payed her any attention. That was, until a tall boy, about six feet, with shaggy raven-black hair and gorgeous, vivid sea-green eyes wearing a large hoodie and jeans spotted her and his eyes went immediatly to her scars. He unconsciously pulled a hand from his pocket and touched where the 'See you then' messages were.

Annabeth watched as he quickly made his way over. "Annabeth?" He asked, his voice deep and husky, but melodic and mesmerising at the same time. She nodded.

"Percy?" It was the boy's turn to nod. He lifted up his hoodie and the shirt underneath to show scars identical to Ananbeth's. He then pulled up his sleeves and showed her his arms. She smiled at him and stood up. She threw her arms around him and enveloped him in a hug. He was stiff at first, but then he relaxed and melted into her arms. Lifting her head from his shoulder, Annabeth whispered in his ear, "You are perfect. I love you."

So. Did it suck?

Or was it really good?

Or was it just to bad for words?

Or maybe to good for words?

I don't know where this came from. I just kind of thought of it, and decided to write it. So, ta-da!

It was 2,364 words long.

Well, I hope none of hated it, but there's probably someone out there who does. It's really crappy, I know. I'm sorry. But... I don't even know. At least I updated something...

Whelp. I guess that's it then. So...
