Chapter 9

"WHAT?!" everyone, but me and the people who couldn't hear said.

"Heh, and you tried to hit her." Hugo said elbowing Silas. Silas crossed his arm.

"Oh yeah, and how would you do that?" Silas asked unbelievably.

"We're all Skill Users if you haven't heard." Ivy said putting her hands on her hips.

And our heads are on bounties.

"Skill Users?" Silas asked,"This is the first time we seen one of those. We have heard of them before, but never really met one."

"Really? You guys don't get out much." Hugo said. Silas frowned at Hugo.

"We're a village in the middle of no where, what do you expect? And there's a reason why we can't leave..." Silas asked. Hugo shrugged.

"I guess we have no choice, but to show you guys." Hugo said and smiled.

You just want to show off.

Hugo laughed quietly,"Maybe..."

"Well, my skill is to summon and control the dead, so it's no wonder how I have a connection with how to stop those spirits." Ivy said. Silas gave her a suspicious look.

"It's not good to think just because she's a kid, that's she's not capable of doing something like that." Hugo said. Ivy opened her mouth.

"Seriously?" Ivy said. Silas's stared at Hugo.

"My skill is to read minds and.... lightning." Hugo said the last part grimly.

Hugo doesn't like to use his lightning skill as much. That reason is because he killed his wife with it. His wife was named Cordelia. He loved her so very much. He smiled and laughed around with her, he looked extremely happy, but one day he came home to find out that she was cheating on him. He was upset of course, his skill was going haywire. This was before he unlocked his mind reading ability. Then, he killed her. Just like that, she was dead on the floor along with the guy she cheated with. After that Hugo wanted to get rid of his skill so very bad, instead he gotten his other ability.

"So.... that's how you knew?" Silas asked.

"Well how else would I know then." Hugo asked.

"Then what about her?" Silas asked pointing to me. Ivy and Hugo stayed quiet,"She's not a skill user?"

"Oh, she's a skill user alright. She just can't talk as you can see. She could talk, it's normal for her, but sometimes.... it can get unstable." Hugo explained. Silas nodded slowly. I knelt down and picked up Bubbles.

"And this is Bubbles." Ivy said pointing to Bubbles. Bubbles made herself a little bigger to show herself off,"She's a Skill User too."

"A cat?" Silas asked.

"Ehem, I am a genuine Skill User." Bubbles said. Silas's mouth dropped. Bubbles jumped out of my arms and turned flashed a bright color. She landed and shifted into Silas. Silas's mouth dropped even further,"I got shape shifting skills."

"I believe you guys, now hurry and help us." Silas asked desperately.

"Why can't you guys leave the village? The ghosts can't get you then right?" Hugo asked. Silas shook his head.

"The people who leave the village are killed, so that's the reason why we don't get out much." Silas said eyeing Hugo. Hugo squinted at him.

"You killed your own daughter. Why should we help you?" Hugo tested.

"It was because of it that I used my daughter, it's your choice to end it." Silas said. Hugo nodded.

"Sounds good." Hugo said and turned to Ivy,"You down with it?"

"Let's just go." she said. Hugo nodded and we all headed towards the house. We ate on our way and Ivy stopped in front of the door. Ivy crossed her arms.

"I'm not doing it." she said grumpily.

"What? Why? We told all this people out there that we were going to stop it." Hugo said,"And you were the one who said that you knew how to."

"I don't want to do it." Ivy said.

"Then you have to say the reason why." Hugo said. Ivy stayed quiet then she took a deep breath.

"To stop the spirits, I can send off my spirits to collect the souls of the others adding the ones in he house to my friends." Ivy said. Hugo nodded.

"And?" Ivy fidgeted.

"Well, if I collect all the spirits in the house Ellie will also be included in that group... and, I don't want Scar to... like Ellie better than me." Ivy said softly.

"Are you jealous?" Hugo said. I looked at Hugo.

Hugo, no one says that to a girl, it will make them hate you.

Hugo sighed,"My bad then." Ivy looked at me with her big eyes and I got out the board. I wrote down my answer since I didn't want Hugo to say it to her.

'No matter who I meet, Ivy, you will always be my sweet little angel'

Ivy smiled and hugged me. I patted her back and gave back her board.

"Okay! Let's do this." she said and smiled. I smiled back at her. We entered the house, all was still quiet. We walked through the halls, our footsteps creaking.

"Why are you here?" we turned around and saw Ellie. She was a little more solid looking then before.

"We're going to put you guys to peace and to stop what you're doing to the village." Hugo said.

"You can really do that?" Ellie asked. Ivy nodded.

"Where's the center of this house?" she asked.

"Well, um, I guess it's on the basement. I can guide you, but the basement is a little.... dangerous." Ellie said.

"How so?" Hugo said.

"Many have died down there, and they're restless." Ellie said,"There are more murderous spirits down there and they're a lot more harsher and merciless than the others."

"It's the basement, Hugo." Ivy said,"Anyone would know that that would be the most haunted area in the house."

"Right." Hugo said. Ellie floated over to the front and began leading us towards the basement. Hugo opened the door with a creak.

This reminds me of that school teacher bounty.

Hugo nodded.

"Ahh, the memories." Hugo whispered nostalgically. I nodded.

The basement was dark and wet. We walked down the old wooden stairs and Ivy went over to the middle of the basement. She looked at me and I nodded. She nodded back.

"It will make it easier for my spirits to spread if I'm here." she explained. She took a deep and closed her eyes. A misty ghost appeared behind Ivy. It was obvious that that spirit wasn't one of hers. It held it's arms out for. Ivy's neck, but it stopped. It was sucked into the ground and never floated back up again. Slowly, other spirits began to rise out of the ground, making her golden locks fly. She kept her eyes closed and many of her spirits began searching through the house. The house began to shake in anger. Wailing and screams echoed through the rooms and halls. Ivy hasn't summoned this many spirits or the dead before like this.

"Ivy, I think you should stop now." Hugo said sensing my concern. Ivy shook her head, still concentrating.

"Just... a little.... longer." she said in gaps of breath. Ellie disappeared underground with the others and the house began to calm down. I saw the teddy bear from before appear in a blink of an eye. It was battered up, one of its ears missing, and it's neck sowed up. It sat there staring at us, then finally, its head is ripped off in front of us. In another blink of an eye, a sign appears.

'Luck is running out for you in the future.' The teddy sunk into the ground along with the sign.

"What does that mean?" Hugo whispered.

No idea.

Ivy opened her eyes and then everything was peaceful. She began to walk towards us, but she tottered to one side and I ran over and caught her. She was breathing, so I calmed a bit. She just passed out from using too much energy. Hugo poked Ivy's cheek.

"She okay?" he asked. I nodded. I carried her up the stairs with Bubbles and Hugo following. The house was in a complete mess, vases shattered on the ground. Red substances, most likely blood, splattered all over the walls. The mirror that we talked to before was broken and unwavering. My boots crunched over the broken glasses and we made it out. The villagers were just a few feet away, waiting in anticipation. As soon as they saw us come out, they cheered with glee. I held Ivy close to me, she was still unconscious. Silas walked over to us and smiled genuinely.

"Thank you so much." he said.

"It was easier than expected." Hugo said and smiled back. I stood emotionless looking into the crowd. A familiar presence was somewhere hidden within the people. I looked around and saw a cloaked figure. Highly suspicious. I squinted my eyes to see if it would help and from underneath the hood a familiar smile grinned at me, showing off sharp rows of teeth. The figure looked up and into my eyes. I took a step back and the figure began to mouth out words.

'Hello.... my.... little.... sister.'

Then, like a dream, the figure vanished.
