Chapter 8
I stayed silent, letting all the information sink in. Ivy began stirring up and she sat in her bed, rubbing her eyes. She yawned and blinked. She saw me and smiled.
"Good morning, Scar." she said sleepily. I waved. Bubbles stood up and swished her tail here and there. They both stretched and I went over to wake Hugo up. He got out of bed and stretched also.
"Morning everyone." he said,"Anything happen?" He turned to me and I nodded.
I met up with a girl...
"Oh, really? That's strange... what's she like?" Hugo asked.
Um, she looks around Ivy's age and she's really sweet, but she's kind of... dead.
"So you're telling me that you talked with a ghost girl?" Hugo asked scratching his head. I nodded.
"What are you guys talking about?" Ivy asked,"I heard the word ghost and I'm all ears."
"Scar says she talked to a ghost last night while she was on look out." Hugo explained. Ivy's mouth turned into an O.
"Really?!" she exclaimed. I nodded.
And she told me very important information.
"Like what?" Hugo asked. I told him about the news with the ghosts and about who Ellie was. I told him about how the people of the village was sacrificing people. He nodded slowly.
"I see. I knew that they were sacrificing people, but this is something else." Hugo said. Ivy was also told the new information.
"If only I could all put them to peace..." Ivy said and sighed. I patted her head.
"Anyways, Ellie told us that it would be safe that it's day time. We need to confront Silas and get something to eat. I'm starving." Hugo said. Ivy nodded. We opened the door and walked out. It was quiet and... peaceful in a way.
"Alright, let's go." Hugo whispered and dashed through the hallway. We reached the front door and tried to open it. It wouldn't budge.
That's strange, Ellie said....
"How do you know if this Ellie ghost isn't using us?" Hugo said suddenly. I stared at him. I remembered the ghostly tears she cried. It all seemed so real. Was she capable of doing this? I shook my head.
I just know, okay.
Hugo sighed.
"Alright then." he said. There was a cold breeze and I looked around. Bubbles stuck close to my feet.
"This place gives me the creeps... along with dogs." she said. She kept looking at the mirror. I went over to it.
Is there something wrong with the mirror?
Hugo looked over to me. I saw myself in the mirror. I tilted my head to the side and I was about to touch it. Ivy slapped my hand. I looked at her.
"Don't touch the mirror." she said quietly. I nodded slowly and looked back at it. The mirror began to waver. It stopped and the mirror was the same, however my reflection was different. My mask was off and I was smiling. I opened my mouth.
"Do you wanna play a game?" it said. It wasn't my voice, I knew that for sure. Ivy looked at the mirror and Hugo's eyes were wide. It smiled.
"You can call me Mirror." she said. She smiled at me,"You remind me of a person I know."
"Oh, who?" Hugo asked curiously.
"This girl named Alice." Mirror said.
"Why does she remind you of this person?" Ivy asked. Mirror shrugged.
"She gives off this same energy as her in a way. They both have fun personalities." she said and smiled,"Anyways, would you like to play a game? It involves coming into a world I created."
"No thank you. We have other things to take care of then play your stupid game." Hugo said. Mirror frowned.
"Suit yourself." she said. The mirror wavered and she disappeared, returning my reflection.
"That was interesting." Hugo said.
"I wonder what her world's like." Ivy said.
"Don't mind it, Ivy." Hugo said and turned back to the door. There was another cold breeze and I turned. Ellie appeared, but she looked a lot weaker and more faded.
"Hello everyone, I'm Ellie." she said. Ivy looked at Ellie and frowned. She looked away when Ellie looked at her.
You said that we would be able to get out.
Ellie looked at me.
"Most of the ghosts are regaining their energy now, but the door still remains lock due to the guardian of the door. He doesn't get to do much of physical damage, his job is to not let anyone out." Ellie explained.
"Then how do we get out?" Hugo asked suspiciously.
"I'll try to weaken the guard then the door will open." she said,"Ready?"
"Ready as I'll ever be." Hugo said. Ellie closed her eyes and took a deep breath, she began to glow a light shade of blue. The door cracked open and Hugo opened the door further. Ellie stopped glowing, she looked tired and a lot more transparent.
"Get out of here." she said tiredly. She began fading and Hugo stepped out.
"Let's go." he said. Ivy followed him out and I came through last.
We're not just leaving those restless souls here? We're not gonna let this village keep having human sacrifices, right?
"There's nothing we can do." Hugo said. I frowned,"Don't we have to find your parents' murderer? Do you really want to do something else when you were so intent on finding them?"
When did you get so gloomy, Hugo? People are dying here.
"When did you get soft, Scar?" Hugo said turning to me. I stopped,"You've killed tons of people. What's the difference if this village kills them?"
Because they were innocent, Hugo. They didn't deserve to die.
Hugo silenced.
"You're real soft, Scar. That's gonna come back and hurt you." Hugo said.
Do you think I care?
"You will in the future." Hugo said. He began walking again and I walked in the back. Ivy stayed quiet and stayed by my side.
"I've never seen you fight with Hugo before..." Ivy said. I rub Ivy's head.
Well, we aren't just some happy go lucky group of people. We have our fights every now and then.
We walked into the village. Many of the villagers had their eyes wide open. I saw a woman drop her groceries and run. Silas came running towards us. He looked nervous.
"W-What are you guys doing here?" he said. Hugo raised his eyebrows.
"What do you mean by that?" Hugo asked.
"Nothing! Nothing at all!" Silas said and smiled, his eyes darting around everywhere.
"You're just scared since there are no sacrifices to give. The spirits will be furious won't they?" Ivy said. Silas looked at Ivy and stared at her angrily. Ivy tilted her head and smiled,"What? Do I remind you of your dead daughter?" Silas's eyes grew wider.
"W-What?" Silas said,"I don't have a daughter."
"Oh, you don't?" Ivy said, regaining her personality and attitude,"Does the name Ellie, mean something to you?" Silas's face flushed red.
"No, it doesn't! Don't say that name!" he said running his hand through his hair.
"Why? If it doesn't mean anything to you, then you wouldn't mind us saying it." Hugo said and smirked. Silas gaped at us. Ivy smiled.
"Ellie, Ellie, Ellie, Ellie, Ellie." Ivy repeated playfully.
"Stop it!" Silas said raising his hand. I pulled Ivy away and Silas swung down. Hugo caught Silas's arm.
"Do you always hit kids other than killing them?" Hugo asked.
"Fine fine, I killed my daughter! I used sacrifices." he said laughing. His eyes were bloodshot and the bags around his eyes,"There's nothing you can do about it! We tried everything. Exorcisms, spells, anything that you can think of. Nothing works."
Then you haven't tried hard enough. I rolled my eyes.
"We're going to stop this, even if it means that it's going to kill us and you." Hugo said,"This softy over here wants to do something." Silas stared at me and I shrugged.
Quit saying I'm a softy, you can be soft too.
Hugo smiled.
"You're still a softy." Hugo whispered under his breath.
I heard that.
I crossed my arms and Hugo had on his regular smirk.
"It's good you guys made up." Ivy said pulling on my shirt. I nodded,"If you guys split up, I think.... it would be a sad experience." Silas was still laughing like an idiot. More villagers were gathering around. Women were hiding their children and men had their arms crossed with angry faces. Hugo looked around.
"But before we do anything, is there anything to eat?" Hugo asked. A woman walked up with a bag of food and she gave Hugo this look. I refrained myself from laughing or else stuff would happen. Ivy was shaking cause she didn't want to laugh out loud. The woman walked away and Hugo turned to us and had a smug look on.
"I still got it." he said. I rolled my eyes.
Sure you do.
Hugo smiled. He rubbed my head, messing up my hair.
"Now, let's save those spirits." Hugo said,"But the question is how?" Ivy raised her hand.
"Um, I know how to get rid of them." Ivy said. Everyone got silent. Everyone staring at Ivy.
"WHAT?!"
