Chapter 6
I picked Bubbles up and she didn't say anything. Ivy walked by my side as we walked over to our room. I put Bubbles down onto the bed and she walked around.
"Is this where you're staying?" she asked. I nodded and Ivy plopped down besides her.
"Hugo is going to get food." Ivy said petting Bubbles's fur.
"Who's Hugo?" she asked.
"He's another person who travels with us and he helps look over us too. We're on a bounty so we're running and Scar wants to find her parents' killers so that's why she sometimes goes on trips with Hugo." Ivy explained,"My name is Ivy and this is Scar." She comes over and sits in my lap and I pat her head. Ivy holds the dry erase board and I write something.
'Hugo sure is taking his time getting food.' Ivy nodded.
"Whatever he's doing, he better hurry, I'm starving and we need to ask him if we can keep Bubbles." Ivy said. I nodded, but a shiver crawled up my spine. I stood up putting Ivy down. I grabbed the board and quickly scribbled something.
'We need to get out of here now!' Ivy looked up at me concerned then she nodded. She grabbed the board and her things and I picked up Bubbles.
"We need to go!" Ivy said to Bubbles as we ran out of the building. I stopped in front of the abandoned inn and stood watching the horizon. I saw Hugo running carrying bags by his side.
"Run!" he yelled. Behind him a few yards away was a pack of wolves. Bubbles shuddered in my arms.
"Anything related to dogs gives me the creeps." she said.
"Hugo, what the heck did you do?!" Ivy yelled. I gave Bubbles to Ivy and gave her a look meaning to run. She hesitated then nodded. She ran off and I stayed waiting for Hugo. He eventually ran to my side and I started running with him.
"I thought I told you to run." he said.
Why are they chasing you?
"How am I suppose to know? I bought some food, but the person I bought them from was acting really suspicious, but on my way these wolves started chasing me." he said. I looked behind me. The wolves eyes were hungry and their fangs were covered with drool.
Give me the bags.
"What? Why?" he asked.
Just give it to me.
He shoved the bags in my hand and I looked into them. I sniffed and I smelled something off.
These have been dosed in an elixir that attracts animals.
"I am going to kill that man!" Hugo said. I turned around and stopped. I threw the bag of food at the wolves. They slowed down and sniffed the bag. Then they ripped it to shreds and started devouring the food. Our food. Hugo was panting by my side and Ivy stopped a few feet ahead of us. She ran back to me and handed me Bubbles.
"Hugo, can we have a cat?" she asked immediately. Hugo was still catching his breath.
"Wolves now cats?" he asked. Ivy put on her puppy dog eyes and her mouth in a pout.
"Please?" she asked sweetly. Hugo frowned and looked at Bubbles. Bubbles licked her paw and looked at Hugo.
"I could be of use to you, you know." she said. Hugo's eyes widened and looked at me. I nodded.
Yes, she talks.
"How?" Hugo said looking back at Bubbles.
"I can do more than just talk." she said and jumped out of my arms. She started glowing a bright light then her body started morphing. My eyes widened and Ivy gasped. Bubbles had transformed into an exact copy of Hugo and was smiling at the shock that the real Hugo had.
"I can shape shift too." she said in Hugo's voice.
"Now that's creepy." Ivy said,"We definitely don't need two Hugos." I smiled and Bubbles morphed back into a cat. She sat continuing to lick her paws.
"If you don't find that handy then I guess I'll be on my way." she said.
We could use her to get information.
Hugo looked at me, then Ivy's pleading face, then down at Bubbles. He sighed.
"If you are in the bit least of inconvenience to me, we're pitching you." he said and began walking. Ivy squealed in joy and hugged Hugo really quickly then hugged me. Bubbles waited by my feet.
"Yay! Scar, we can keep Bubbles!" she said and picked Bubbles up to hug her.
"Hey, hey, I don't do squeezing to deaths." she said.
"Oh, sorry." Ivy said and set Bubbles down. I picked Bubbles up and began walking besides Hugo. Ivy hurried to my side, her stomach rumbled.
"Anyways, what happened to our food?" she asked.
"Ivy, I don't want to talk about food right now." Hugo said.
"What? I'm hungry, though." she said quietly.
"We'll find food later." Hugo said,"But for now just endure it, okay?" Ivy nodded slowly.
"Okay..." she said.
After hours of walking we reached a small village isolated from the rest of society.
Do you think this place is safe? It doesn't seem that they get news and bounty info much so it doesn't seem that they'll know that we're being chased.
Hugo shrugged.
"One way to find out." he said. Ivy held my hand and walked by my side sleepily. Bubbles was resting on my shoulders. Her tail swinging under my neck. We walked through the village. The villagers stared at us and whispered quietly to each other.
Bubbles had her eyes closed, but she was still awake.
"Outsiders have entered the village." she whispered in my ear. She was saying what the villagers were saying about us,"They're surely going to get killed. I feel bad for them, they don't know what they just stumbled upon. I don't care if they get killed, all of us who have suffered in this village deserves a break."
"This village is bad news." Hugo said,"They all want us dead."
What do you mean by that?
Hugo looked at me.
"We're just human sacrifices here, don't trust anybody." he said. Ivy was nodding off, slowly walking by my side. Bubbles swished her tail under my chin. I nodded and I saw a tall man walk towards us. He dressed in much fancier clothes than the other villagers and he wore a broad smile. He spread his arms out as if showing off the village.
"Welcome to Silver Woods, I am the chief of this village, my name is Silas Matthews." he said, his smile unwavering. I stared at him and he glanced at me, he gave me one of his very suspicious smiles then looked back at Hugo.
"We're looking for a place to stay for a while." Hugo said.
"You traveling?" Silas asked and started leading us somewhere.
"You could say that." Hugo said. Silas stopped in front of a building and entered it. He waved to some of the villagers that were inside and he stopped at the desk.
"Hey, Mark." he said to the man at the desk. The man named Mark gave a brief nod.
"I need a room for these-" he began.
"We don't want to live in a hotel, we want a place that's kind of deserted from the rest of the people." Hugo cut off. Silas turned towards Hugo, his eyebrow raised.
"Really?" he said.
"Yeah...." Hugo said. Silas smiled.
"Then I know the place that's right for you." he said and walked out of the building. We followed him to a far off area away from most of the villagers, he stopped in front of an big house, a rusty gate surrounding it.
"This place has been abandoned for a long time, no body would ever go near it." Silas said.
"I see..." Hugo said, he opened the gates and I walked through with him along with Ivy. I looked behind me and saw that Silas stayed where he was.
"Aren't you going to give us a tour?" Ivy asked sleepily. She rubbed her eye with one hand and held my hand with the other. Silas's smile vanished. He took a step back and shook his head.
"No, it's a pretty simple structure. Enjoy your stay." he said quickly and ran off. I tilt my head in puzzlement.
What was all that about?
Hugo sighed.
"I learned a lot of things today." he said.
What?
He shook his head.
"It's a secret for now." he said and walked towards the house. We entered and my nose wrinkled.
It stinks of blood in here.
Ivy closed her eyes, then opened them slowly. Her eyes changing.
"This place has a ton of spirits." she said,"Dangerous spirits."
