Chapter 4
I felt a shiver run down my spine and I paused. Ivy turned to me.
"Something wrong?" she asked. I shook my head.
It's nothing, just felt like somebody was watching me.
"Says she felt like somebody was watching her. " Hugo explained. Ivy shivered.
"I hate that feeling, it's so creepy." Ivy commented. I nodded. We quieted once we walked into a crowd of people in the town. Hugo stopped at a bounty board and we looked up at them.
"Found us." Hugo said pointing to a drawing of us.
"They added me too." Ivy said,"We sure are worth a lot." I nodded. I looked around. Many other hunters were around the bounty board.
I don't like this place, let's go on.
Hugo nodded and we left in a hurry. After a while of walking, Ivy stopped suddenly.
"I'm hungry." she said. Hugo sighed.
"Should have ate something when we left." he said.
"But I wasn't hungry." she retorted.
"Quit whining, we'll be found out, we'll stop by a place that sells food and then we'll leave okay?" Hugo compromised. Ivy nodded.
"Okay, let's go!" she said and started walking quickly. I shook my head and followed her. We stopped at a restaurant and Hugo went inside and found us an empty seat.
"If we're found out, make a run for it and I'll hold them back for a while." Hugo whispered.
"Quit trying to be a hero." Ivy said,"We can hold them back too, now hurry and order some food." I could tell Hugo was getting annoyed. He ordered Ivy and himself a bowl of soup and for me a cup of water. I don't really eat much. The waiter set our food on our table and we ate in silence. I pulled down my mask and drank my water. The whole restaurant seemed to quiet down and I looked to see what was going on. A group of people walked in and sat down at an empty table not too far from us. My eyes widened as a I saw the marks on their bodies. The mark of a Collector.
"Well isn't this dandy." Hugo whispered.
Ivy finished her soup like nothing happened. Hugo and I sat watching the Collectors silently. My heart was thumping against my chest, not because I was scared. I was excited. I lifted my glass of water and drank the last drop. I pulled my mask up and pulled my hood up even farther. I glanced over to the Collectors, there were three guys and a girl. The girl had tattoos all over her arms and her short hair tied in a pony tail. She visibly had muscles and I could sense the killer aura around her.
"Why so quiet?" a guy with a bandanna said jokingly. My eyes met up with the girl's. I held my breath and calmly began breathing again, I slowly looked away.
She saw me looking at them.
"Just calm down and act normal." Hugo whispered ever so quietly.
Easy for you to say. Last time I checked, we weren't normal.
"Hey," Ivy said in her childish innocent voice,"Why is everyone so quiet? Everyone should be talking." I looked over to Ivy and saw her smile mischievously underneath her hood. There was silence following Ivy's comment.
"Sorry about that, my daughter is really clueless!" Hugo said standing up and putting a hand on Ivy's back and mine,"Come on kids, let's go." I stood up and began walking.
"Aw, but Papa, I was just saying-" Ivy began. I could see her gritting her teeth.
"That's enough, Nicola." Hugo said pushing her along,"Right, Eloise?" I paused then nodded. I walked to the entrance of the restaurant.
"Wait a second, Papa~" the girl Collector said mockingly. I dug my nails into the wood of the wall. Hugo turned to the girl.
"Yes?" he turned nonchalantly.
"Don't forgot to pay." she said putting her feet up, she pointed to the waiter standing behind him.
"Ah, yes, thank you." Hugo said. Ivy walked over to my side.
"Hey, Eloise, isn't that big sister over there, so cool?" Ivy said trying to get onto her side.
"Stop trying to sweet talk me, criminals will always be criminals." the girl said putting her hands behind her head. Hugo stayed quiet and paid the waiter.
"Criminals? Eloise, she thinks we're criminals! We're not criminals, right Papa?" Ivy said, her tiny fists clenched behind her back.
"Cut the act, sweetie, how much more suspicious could you not get?" the girl answered, she turned her head towards my direction and grinned. Sharp rows of teeth were visible as she smiled at me. Ivy put her hands on her hips.
"Your mouth may be smiling, but your eyes ." she said in her 'I don't care anymore' tone. Hugo came over to our side. The Collectors stood up and faced us.
"Let's go." Ivy said and positioned her hands in a stance and motioned them to come forward. The Collectors began getting their weapons out and everyone in the room backed at least three feet away or tried to.
"Okay, it's about time for us to leave now." Hugo said and grabbed Ivy off the ground. He pulled me and my hood came off. I caught a glance of the Collectors and Hugo pulled me off running with Ivy under his arms.
"Hugo! I thought we were gonna go mess them up!" Ivy said.
"Not today, Nicola." Hugo said jokingly,"You don't want us to get killed do you?"
Where did you get those names anyway?
Hugo shrugged,"I dunno, they're the first things that popped into my head."
"Put me down." Ivy whined.
"Okay, just be a good girl like how you were suppose to be." Hugo said looking behind making sure we weren't being followed. We paused to catch our breaths, but we began to hear shouting in the distance coming closer and closer. We exchanged glances with each other and we all ran into a building. The shouts were getting closer to us as we bust through the door and onto the roof. We ran to the side and looked down below us. It was a far drop and in front of us was another building, too far to jump to.
"We're trapped, huh?" Hugo said.
