It's been a week since you've secretly started watching the boys' volleyball team practice, and you're absolutely entranced
If only you could play games, no just practicing with them would be enough for you
'if only...'
You're already lucky to not have been found out sneaking looks at their practices.
But you don't know for how long you could keep that up.
You've noticed the managers and coach look around and at the windows more lately.
Does this mean they're noticing you looking at them?
Probably.
But you don't want to stop because you absolutely love watching their passion shine through their training.

"Hey, ready to go?"
"I'm coming"

For the past week you've been practicing with your brothers' team just so you could sometimes sneak out saying you forgot something, or had to go to the toilet, just so you could watch the volleyball team. even if it was for just a second.

Arriving at the baseball team, you decide to train for about 20 minutes and then make up an excuse to go see the volleyball team.

"Hey, I gotta go to the toilet."
"Alright, be quick."
'Be quick they say, hah, I could never'
You run off the training fields and onto the gyms.

Sneaking some glances through the window, looking at them play you hear some footsteps behind you.
"What are you doing?"
Shocked, you fell off the ledge you were standing on and look up to see a really pretty woman.
Long black hair, glasses and a beauty mark near her lips.
She looked absolutely stunning

"Uh, uhh I was just looking..."
"For the past week?"
Startled by her answer you shot up and try to explain yourself
"Oh, uhm, well... I just, I saw you practicing one time and.. and well, I got so indulged in their passion while playing that I just sort off, stuck around"
Scratching the back of your neck you begin to feel a bit embarrassed about having been noticed

"Do you wanna watch inside?"
"Huh? No! No.. thank.."

"Kiyoko-san, what's taking so long?"
You see the bald guy you saw last week coming out from the gym
Noticing you, he quickly puts on a scowl
"Haaahhhh you're that punk from last week"
You make a quick bow to him before slowly stepping away
"Hey don't you dare walk away! Come here and fight me fair and square"
"I don't fight."
Getting an even angrier look on his face Kiyoko tries to calm him down

"Then fight me on the court!"
He looks quite proud saying that, almost as if he knows he would win
"No"
"What why not?? Come here"
Grabbing you by your wrist and starts dragging you inside the gym

You don't try to fight against him, knowing that you won't get away anyway. So you just complied and walked behind him, planning to run out the moment he lets go if your wrist

You're inside
He starts letting go
Okay, now's your chance. You should run
You start to turn around getting ready to run-
"Y/N-San?"
"Yamaguchi-kun?"

Yamaguchi is in the volleybal club?
Why haven't you noticed?
You watched them practice for the past week but you couldn't just look at their faces for a second?
Seriously, what's wrong with you?
Too focused on the play, not noticing that your friends were the ones playing
'Friends'

Hinata begins running up to you with a curious look on his face
"What are you doing here Y/N?"

"We're gonna play a match against each other"
The bald guy says, with a menacing grin on his face.
He probably thinks you know nothing of volleyball, expecting you to lose without a hitch.
If you play

"Are you serious Tanaka-Senpai?? I thought Y/N was in the baseball club though!"
The bald guy, apparently names Tanaka shots you a laugh and drags you to the coach

"I wanna play a match against him. Please allow us to do so"
'Wait, him?'
Tanaka bows and the coach shots up an eyebrow to him
"Isn't that unfair. He's in the baseball club from what I just heard"
"Then just put Kageyama on his team"
"Fine, do what you want"

"But, coach, that's still unfair..."
A white haired boy said to him, having a worried look on his face
"Don't worry, let hik play a bit and let him see how unfair it is on his own. And who knows, maybe we'll get a new volleyball player out of this"
The coach shrugs off making you question why he's so calm about this
Because, hello, you're supposed to be a complete beginner in their eyes. For all they know you haven't even heard of volleyball.

Lucky for you, you know about volleyball.
You know a lot.
Frankly, more than you think you should know.
Sometimes you wish you never knew about volleyball.
All because of that one incident

An orange sun begins smiling at you asking you to play with him

An angry face tells you to move your butt over to the court.

"Hey Tanaka-Senpai! We're on his team so you better watch out!"
You show a warm smile to the ginger
"Yeah, let's win this"

Giving high-fives to both Hinata and Kageyama you walk to your position on the side of the court.

You start analyzing your opponents
On the other side of the court, Tanaka, the gray haired boy from before and,  Jesus?
Anyway, a dude that looks like Jesus.
He looks big and strong, probably the ace here.
Tanaka is probably a wing spiker, seeing as he's so fired up and practicing his swings in the air.
And lastly, the gray haired boy.
Probably a setter seeing how calm he is. He also has a relaxing aura, good for making your team members trust you.

You slap both your cheeks to stop yourself from thinking any further.
You can't use this negative energy right now.
You need to win this, to put that guy in his place.

"Kageyama, are you a setter?"
Kageyama nods.
Okay. He's also the tallest, our best shot at blocking.
You don't know how well your opponents are. You don't even know how good your teammates are.
But you do know that they're good, you may not have seen the faves of the boys practicing but you could feel passion in every single one of them.
"Hinata-kun, middle blocker. Right?"

Hinata, the only one you saw the face of. Not because he's one of the shortest there. In fact, there is an even shorter boy on the team. He also caught your eye.
But Hinata, you saw him fly
'He could really fly.'

"How did you know?"
"I saw you jump one time"
"Really?? Then, what position are you gonna play Y/N?"
"Doesn't matter, It's a 3 on 3."
"Then why did you want to know our positions?"
"To know your basic set of skills"

"Can I know your position then?"
Kageyama chimes in, with that serious face of his
"I'm a wing spiker"

Hinata yells, showing stars in his eyes
"Let's just say that I can also jump a bit"
Having a determined look on your face you walk to your position, nodding to Kageyama and Hinata waiting for the game to begin.

"Are you ready?"
You ask the boys, them nodding in return
"Let's win this"

walking to your place, which is the upper left corner of the court, you wait for the opposite team to serve.
It looks like Tanaka will start serving, let's see how his serve will be.
He throws the ball up to serve, it looks like a normal serve. good.
Hinata gets the ball clumsily in the air.

You let out a little smile while you rotate to the right of the court

You ask your friends, them nodding in return.

It's Kageyama's turn to serve, let's see how good he is.
He's behind the court, looks like he's gonna do a jump serve.
Throwing the ball up, he begins the run and jump to finish the serve.
A clean good serve.

It looked like a really good serve, you would have thought it would be a no touch
But then the Jezus looking guy picks the ball up

You wouldn't have expected otherwise from him, he looks like a good player after all.
The white haired dude runs to the ball to what you assume, set it to either Tanaka or the other guy.

You jump up to block him, together with Hinata

Kageyama runs up to the ball, setting it to hinata who's running to the other side of the court in no time.

That was fast.

Their quick leaves almost no time to react to it at all.
You'd have to read block or just be really fast

It's your time to serve now.
Will you do a jump serve or just a normal serve, to not attract any attention?
Who are you kidding, your jump already gave you a lot of attention.

Deciding to do a jump serve, you take 4 big steps from the end of the court.
Spinning the ball in your hand, you focus your sight on Tanaka.

Completely focused on where you want your ball to hit the court, you take a seep breath in and out. stopping the spinning ball in your hand you throw it up, running up to it, jumping

Tanaka tries to receive it, but the ball flies off to the backside of the gym.
Making them have a shocked expression on their faces.

"Tsk, it's just one serve I didn't get. I'll get the next one for sure!"

You take him up on that challenge, making you serve the ball to him again.
And surely enough, he got it up.
Not that good, but it's in court at least.

The grey haired boy runs under the ball, setting it to what you assume to be the ace.
Their ace runs up to the net
Swinging his arm back, to slam the ball to your side of the court

You run up to where you know the ball will fall on court.
It's a good spike, very powerful.
You know that Hinata and Kageyama won't be able to block it.

You saved to ball with your arms, but it was such a powerful spike that your save made it land on the outside of your opponents' court.

"Out!"

"Don't mind"

Grinning, at the fact you weren't able to safe it.
You started thinking about how you'll be able to safe the ball next time.
Maybe roll your body backwards, to make it have less backlash.
Yeah, you'll try that.

this is fun

This is the deciding point.
It's now at 24-22 for your team.

The grey haired boy stands on the end of the court, ready to serve.
Throwing the ball up, swinging his arm back
making contact with the ball

"Team Y/N wins"

The ball got hit in the net

Hinata comes running up to you and Kageyama, giving you high fives
"I didn't know you knew how to play volleyball Y/N!"
"I- I uh yeah, I used to play a little..."
"A little?? You looked like a pro!! you were so good! when you jumped it was like BOOM and when you hit the ball it was like uuwwaaaaaa bam! And you could even do a jump serve!!"

You ruffle his hair, thinking of what to say.
You don't think you're that good.
Otherwise, why would they abandon you?
Why would they do that to you?

"Why are you in the baseball club instead of volleyball when you're this good Y/N?"

The giant Jesus guy asked you
"Actually, I'm not in any club-"
Shit, you shouldn't have said that. what if they try to get you to join?

Hinata creeps up on you, with stars in his eyes. together with Kageyama they stare at you with those eyes of them.
"Wanna join the volleyball club?"
They asked you excitedly, making it hard for you to turn them down.
You want to, you wish you could.
But you just can't

"I'm sorry..."
"Why? did you not like playing with us?"
"That's not it, I really really liked playing again. it was like wooooa"
"Then, why..?"
"It's.. I just can't. I'm sorry."

You quickly grab your stuff, power walking to the door.
Waving the boys and managers goodbye, thanking them for having you play with them today.
Quickly walking to the bathroom, your heart just won't seem to calm down.
You close the bathroom door behind you, making you instantly slid down on the ground.

Looking at your red hand and arms from spiking and receiving you feel a rush of excitement.
This was fun.
It was really fun.

You felt happy again, for the first time in a while

'I wish I could play volleyball again'
