Chapter 2

It's late at night and Jack is sitting in the captain's quarters looking at a picture of him and his sister he brought from home before running away.

"I wish you were here" he said. Then, Jack had a flashback of him and Julie as kids, going to a new restaurant on Shipwreck Island called The Sea Clam.

*Flashback*

"(Laughing) I can't believe we actually tricked Valerie into giving us 20 bucks!" said Julie excitedly. "I know, it's so refreshing to hear something like 'If I give you guys money, will you leave me alone?' Instead of something like 'I can't trust either of you to do anything right, especially you, Jack, you're such a stupid idiot', it hurts" said Jack. "Hey, turn that frown upside down, we have money and we're the first kids to try out The Sea Clam" she said. "You always find a way to make me feel better" said Jack. "Well, YOU always protect me from grandmama, so it's the least I could do" she responded. The two kids hugged each other and ran into the restaurant to order.

"Jack? Jack? JACK!!!!!!" yelled Mr.Gibbs. Jack snapped out of his daydream and straightened himself out.

"Yes, Mr.Gibbs?" he said.

"It's getting to be morning, so should we get back to work, sir?" asked Mr.Gibbs. Jack wasn't paying attention as he stared solemnly at the picture of him and Julie. Mr.Gibbs soon caught sight of it too.

"Is that you as a little kid? Who's the girl?" he asked.

"Uh, i-i-it's nothing, uh...g-get back to work" stuttered Jack. Mr.Gibbs didn't know what was wrong, but he wasted no time doing what was told of him. Jack never cried in his life, but the photo of his sister made a huge lump in his throat. He grabbed a bottle of rum and chugged it down.

'It gets harder every time' he thought to himself. Jack managed to swallow his pride, walk out of the quarters, and began telling orders to his crew. He's never told anyone about his childhood or his grandmama cause he didn't think anyone would understand or care. When he was a young adult and working for Cutler Beckett, he tried to tell him about life as a kid, but Beckett ignored him, calling Jack a liar. So since then, Jack has pushed down all his pain and sorrow with rum. Never telling another person, for fear of being called a liar.
