Chapter 6. Midnight Training

Hello, little stars. So at the start of this chapter we're gonna go into third person view, then later in the story we're gonna go into Akira's okay?
Twyla, Out!

---

Wooden floorboards creaked as a blond haired girl stepped onto the hard, cold floor.

Her hair stayed neatly at the back of her head in a curled up bun; bits of golden hair sticking out randomly as crystal blue eyes examined her fast asleep roommates.
She pulled on her brown boots; still wearing her uniform that she was given earlier that day like two of her cabinmates. Both sleeping quietly; though one muttered something about unicorns flying on rainbows... What where rainbows? Or as a matter of fact what where unicorns?

The blue eyed girl ignored these questions and walked towards the heavey, birch door. A bored expression carved onto her pale face.

Glancing back at her sleeping cabinmates; she pushed open the door, slamming it shut seconds after; her on the outside, her comrades on the inside.

                                                                                                       ***

Slam!
And she closed the door; I thought, silently questioning her reason to do so.

I opened my golden eyes; in the dark of the night, it lighted up the cabin, like faint flashlights.

Sitting up in bed, I pulled out my hair tie that held my chocolate locks in a loose braid; flipping it over my side so it cascaded down my back in a brown waterfall.

I carefully stood up on the cold floorboards, pulling on my boots and exiting my sleeping quarters more quietly than my other fellow cadet had.

I instantly heard soft panting and the sounds of wood cracking. I lifted my head to the crescent moon and followed the noise; why would she be up at this time of night? Was she really that desperate to train?

I shook my head; dismissing my thoughts as my fellow cadet came into view; she indeed had her blond hair up in a messy bun; her blue eyes aiming at her target; the very same cherry blossom I was training against this morning.

My footsteps where silent as the night's shadows hid me from her view; if I where to jump out with a knife; she'd be dead in seconds.

I walked towards the girl until I was practically behind her. Two meters, I think.

This is really annoying me.

I silently crept up behind her; and when in range...
I kicked her in the ribs from behind.

She didn't even attempt to block it. That's why you have to have high level hearing skills; if you focus on something that's in front of you too much; you won't be able to focus on what's going on around you as well.

The girl inhaled sharply as my boot came in contact with her ribs; knocking her over, she fell to the ground sideways.

The blonde haired girl cushioned her landing with her right arm; taking a moment to wince before glaring at her attacker.

"Don't just focus on what's in front of you, blondie. You have to be aware of your surroundings as well." I stated bluntly, not taking a moment to look at her.

The girl looked at me with narrowed blue eyes; what? Did a bird crap all over me?

"So what?" She questioned; slowly standing up from her place on the ground. "What are you going to do now? You've caught me; are you going to sell me out and tell the Commander?"

I looked at her and scrunched up my nose in disgust; sell her out? The hell?!

"Are you blind, blondie? I'm out here too so even if I did tell Shadis I wouldn't get a pat on the back; I'd get a ticket to the fields." I replied bluntly.

Narrowing my eyes; I walked past her and in front of the cherry blossom. Examining the damage she did.

A few small dents where made in the tree's fine trunk, though not many; I turned around to meet the girls glare once again. What is it with this girl and glaring? Though, I can't say much.

"May I ask your name?" I asked through my brown bangs; turning to my right to meet the moon's gaze.

"Annie Leohardt" she responded as if she where trying to be civil. Good move. "Yours?"

"Nightfall. Akira Nightfall." She gave me a strange look and furrowed her blonde eyebrows; what? Now has the bird decided to crap on me?

"Eren Jaeger was talking about you last night at the mess hall." She stated calmly; I looked back at her stoically while a smirk tugged at my lips. That baka.

"Really? Oh well, I'll give him a beating when we get to cover hand to hand combat" I decided evilly. I may seem small; but, hey; don't underestimate me.

"You know what, Annie?" I asked quietly; returning to look at the beautiful moon. "You're strong, I'd like to be your ally for now, is that okay?" My face was lightened up with the light of the moon; illuminating my pale skin to make me look paler.

I wasn't expecting the answer I got. But then again; who would be? No one was here to make friends. That what o thought anyway.

"I'd like that.. Akira." She nodded; looking at the moon hover above the forest green trees.

"I wonder... What would it be like to just.. Fly away? Fly away and touch the moon. Maybe even hold a star. Tell me Akira; have you ever thought of that?" She whispered to me, surprising me as I did not especially her to care for such things.

"Maybe I have once, but no. I do not believe we can fly if we don't have wings. That's why - oh, never mind." I sighed lazily.
She looked at me with furrowed eyebrows; quickly looking away and scowling into the shadows before regaining her normal composure.

"Well. That's your choice."' She said, though my mind told me to strangle her on the spot.
"Yes, indeed it is." My voice came out smoothly, per normal, it sent shivers down her spine; as it did most people.

She looked at me questionably; as if I were speaking in a foreign language. "By the tone in your voice I can tell you prefer to be independent."

"Spot on, Miss Blondie." I mock applauded as we bickered back and forth on our opinions on the way each other live.

After we shushed ourselves; I suggested we do a bit more training or some sparring at least before bed.

Annie quickly agreed and we began; blocking each others attacks and throwing punches at the same time; it was all fun. Hey, maybe having a better friend than Cadenza was need in this world.

We of course eventually went to bed; this time both of us changing into our night ware before we climbed into bed. A few words exchanged before we drifted off into deep slumbers.

"Night, Akira."

"Go to sleep, Leohardt... And, good night."
